1PRACTICAL CONNECTION ASSIGNMENT
Reflections
The course at UC has helped me to grow and develop my professional skills. This in turn
has helped me to reap great rewards in my work environment. The knowledge that I had gained
by being a part of this course would help me to further optimize my work potential. Currently, I
am working as a Quality Assurance Engineer. My work requires me to test software that are due
to be launched or provided to the clients to ensure quality. In my work environment I need to
identify any bugs or problems that might be present in the software and document them if and
when I find. The technical knowledge that I gained from the course has greatly helped in the
work I do. I am currently using the agile methodology of work. This was a part of the technical
learning that I got from the course. The methodology helps in creating a framework through
which the software can be developed continuously throughout the project lifecycle (Serrador &
Pinto, 2015). The learning that I got from the course has helped me to understand the working of
the methodology better. I also learnt about its application in handling problems related to my
work. However, I have learnt more than just technical applicability from the course.
The course has helped me to perform in accordance of the ethical standards that are
required in my work environment. The usage of various software tools and the ethical
considerations before presenting the finished product of services is something that I was able to
learn from this course. The current work environment requires me to perform according to the
standards of effective management along with IT functions. Personally, I require optimal
knowledge of the IT environments in order to understand the requirement of the clients and the
performance standards of the software that are being provided (Kerzazi & Adams, 2016). The
course has taught me much about self management. I have used self-management towards
improving my work position and effectively managing time. It is important to note that self-
management helps to understand the strengths and limitations of an individual and helps him/her
to plan the work functions accordingly. The course has also taught me about leadership. To some
extent leadership skills are required as being a QA Engineer means that at time I have to guide
my peers as well as the actual developers for improving their functions. I have to be a servant
leader in accordance of my job responsibilities. Being a servant leader means that a person
should have effective levels of awareness, persuasion, foresight, conceptualization, stewardship
along with other capabilities (Spears & Lawrence, 2016). The course has taught me how to
consider situations on the basis of the people that are involved. I have greatly utilized these
capabilities towards understanding and acting in accordance of what is required of me. I use
these skills when I require providing QA status report. Having good leadership skills mean that I
can properly train the internal personnel in accordance with the program standards of QA. In all
aspects of my work I have been greatly affected by whatever I have been able to learn
throughout the course duration.
