Backup and Disaster Recovery Plan
The title of the project is Backup and Disaster Recovery Plan is a process or procedures
which helps businesses to protect and recover their Information Technology infrastructure
(Wallace & Webber, 2017). The plan is used in known and unknown events that occur in an
Organization. This research topic is elaborated through various Information technology systems
and models.
Introduction
The backup and disaster recovery plan is necessary for business continuity plan for an
organization. The backup and disaster recovery plan does not always avoid unintentional
disasters however it minimizes the risks and effect of disaster. The benefits of the recovery plan
are minimization of risk, decision-making and reducing the legal liabilities during a disaster in an
organization. The disaster can be either man-made (industrial accidents) or natural disaster
(earthquake). However, there are several challenges related to the recovery plan and they need to
be discussed briefly. The challenges of the recovery plan discussed in this study are mainly
focused and researched through adoption of cloud computing. The challenges are discussed in
the following paragraph. The backup and disaster recovery plan is described through a survey on
cloud computing. The cloud computing is a major area in the Information System where the
backup and disaster recovery problem is crucial (Khoshkholghi et al., 2014). This is because
Cloud Service Providers (CSPs) have to provide services to customers in any situation such as
when the system is down.
The other research papers shows that Information Technology disaster recovery plan is
not considered as option rather it has become an important part of any organizations (Mohamed,

2014). The Information Technology disaster recovery planning analysis is done by the
practitioners to prepare model for the disaster recovery planning. Another research shows case
study of Integrated Library Management Software (ILMS) SOUL 2.0 where disaster recovery
plan is applied through different stages (Shaikh & Shrimali, 2016). This is done through various
backup options available such as Full Backup, Differential Backup, SQL Server File Backup and
others for the database recovery in any situation.
The Computer-Aided Disaster Recovery Planning Tool (CADRP) is designed in this
article with detailed working and operations of each phase described (Alhazmi, 2015). The
Computer-Aided Disaster Recovery Planning Tool (CADRP) also takes into account policies and
procedures of an organization. The above research shows that how Backup and Disaster
Recovery planning in Information Technology is important and how the planning can be applied
in an organization. However, Backup and Disaster Recovery planning in Information
Technology still faces some challenges and opportunities. The research shows interview
conducted in organization that developed Information Technology Backup and Disaster
Recovery planning (Ghannam, 2017). The conducted interview resulted in some key challenges
that an organization face. The challenges are top management support, staff issues, Information
Technology Backup and Disaster Recovery planning maintenance and disaster recovery site. The
opportunities for these challenges are data protection and business operations interruptions
should be reduced.
Another research on a case study of GINJA for traditional database management system
is shown (Alcântara, Oliveira & Bessani, 2017). GINJA is a disaster recovery system that is used
for transactional database management system. GINJA is based on Amazon S3, Azure Blob
Storage or Google storage and it is designed basically for five purposes. The other research

shows that survey conducted on business resulted in small firms do not need Disaster Recovery
Plan (White, 2017). This is due to small firms having not seen any disaster yet and they are not
well-versed with the new technologies.
Aim of the Study
The research study will help to understand the challenges in backup and disaster recovery
plan that an organization faces while implementing the plan. The major focus is to fix the
problems of backup and disaster recovery plan in an organization. The study helps to understand
the use of cloud technologies to overcome the problems of implementing disaster and recovery
plan. The main aim of the study is to briefly research and evaluate the problems of implementing
backup and disaster recovery plan.
Purpose of the study
The purpose of this study is to focus on problems of Backup and Disaster recovery plan
due to unintentional incidents that occur in an organization. The goal of this research consists of
minimizing the effect of unintentional disasters in the organization and resuming of critical
function tasks.
Research Questions
The questions which are required to be discussed and reviewed are given as follows:
1. What are the problems into backup and disaster recovery plan?
2. How to fix the problems of disaster recovery and backup?
3. How use of cloud technologies help to overcome with the identified problems?
