Stage 1 – Project Charter
Section 1: Executive Summary
The objectives of the project include construction of the IT Center and the
implementation of relevant IT technical support in the newly constructed IT Center. The total
approved and combined budget for the construction of the IT Center and the implementation of
IT setup in the IT Center is $65 million. The expected timeframe for the entire project is 12
months (6 months for the construction and 6 months for the IT implementation). In addition to
the opportunities in the project, there can be some risks that need to be mitigated in order to
ensure the best quality outcome for the project. Some of the risks associated with the project
include Health and safety risk during construction, cyber security risk associated with the IT
implementation, poor quality materials leading to poor quality outcome in the construction of the
IT center, poor quality hardware leading to lack of sufficient technical support as required by the
client and budget overshoot due to unnecessary delays in the project.
Section 2: Project Purpose and Definition
The main purpose of this project is to construct a new IT Center on the land provided by
the client within a specific budget set by the client. The client has also requested for the
implementation of the latest IT support in the IT center and has allocated additional budget for
the same. The project is defined by the following points.
Vision – The client wants to set up an IT Center that will be instrumental in supporting
their business and accordingly, wants to implement relevant IT to support their IT Center.

Scope – The scope of the project involves construction of a new IT Center on the land

Deliverables – The deliverables of the project includes a fully constructed and designed
IT Center and fully developed IT setup in the IT Center.
Phasing, Staging and Gateway Reviews – This document only provides authorization for
the planning and preparations for the project. At each phase of the project, client review and
authorization will be required to proceed in the next phase. This project charter document is
developed to provide an idea to the client regarding what will be done with the project.
Following client review, the project will be started only if authorization is granted by the client.
