INTRODUCTION
Information technology is process of study of storing, retrieving and sending information
from one place to another (Information technology. 2019). It has used in almost all the
organizations across the world because of its significant benefits. The organization used to
explain the importance of information technology is hotel Russell. This is a historic five star
hotel having its headquarter in Russell Square, Bloomsbury, London. In this report, role of
information technology in the success and failure of organization is explained. Apart from that,
ethical and social issues that pertaining to running business are also explained. In the end,
identification and differentiation between different types of networking technology is also done.
TASK
1. Identification of the role of information technology in the failure and success of the
organization.
The organization to which role of IT explained is hotel Russell. This is a five star hotel
which has its brand value that is why use of IT is vital in the operation of a business. Since hotel
has its duty of satisfaction of customers therefore technology plays an important role in the
success and failure. The satisfaction level of customers can be increased with the help of IT.
Although ineffective use of IT can also leads to dissatisfaction among customers. Therefore role
of IT in the use of success and failure of hotel Russell is explained below:
Success:
There are several factors which contribute to the success of organization which are stated
as below:
Communication:
It is the most important facility of IT in the success of Hotel Russell. Since to take quick
decision making it is essential to have full information on a particular task (Abbas, 2017). This
knowledge can be gathered with others with the use of e-mail. It is the best way of
communication among the customers and hotel. From the starting to end journey of customer, it
plays an important role in the transfer of information. Apart from that, there are also other ways
of communication inside and outside the organization such as VOIP(voice Over Internet
Protocol), live chat, video conferencing, online meeting tool etc. Thus IT plays an important role
in the development of hotel Russell.

Inventory Management:
It is known as the art of maintaining and cutting the extra cost of goods to stock in the
inventory. The organizations such as hotel Russell use this management tool to cut the cost of
inventory (Amiri, 2017). They uses this tool to stock the desired amount of goods so that the cost
of maintaining the goods can be cut. This is done with the help of inventory management
software which is connect with the Point of Sale. When an item is purchased and used from
inventory than it is updated in the inventory management software and is removed from the
inventory count. Thus all the department which are linked directly or indirectly with this
software can be able to know about the status of number of goods remain in the inventory.
Data management:
It is the facility of IT in which different types of data is managed properly so that it can
be accessed through each and every department in the organizations. Since the time in which
files and documents are stored in a row have gone. Now is the technological ear in which all the
organization can easily store their data in computer systems. In case of Hotel Russell, it can store
data of its visited customers so that they can improve according to their feedback. That is why IT
helps in the success of hotel.
Failure
Sometimes use of technology hinders the success of an organization. The reason behind it
is explained below:
Security:
It is one of the drawback of use of IT because as its use increases it also gives hike to
cyber crime. Since the data collected or gathered through different sources is valuable to hotel
Russell (Farahpoor and Sabouri, 2018). Therefore its security plays an important role in the
success of organization. If an intruder enters the data of hotel than it can steal the important
information from the organization. The information can be of the customers which have given
their feedback and about the hotel or the services which are offered by the hotel. This data can be
valuable for the rivals of hotel Russell because they can implement the technology and services
which are already offered by them.
2. Ethical and social issues that pertaining to running business
There are several ethical and social issues that are pertaining to business which are
explained as below:

The ethical issues that are required to run a business are stated as below:
Fundamental issue:
The most important fundamental issue that pertain to run a business are known as
integrity and trust (Lee, You and Hsieh, 2017). Every business should try to gain the trust and
confidence of its customers. In case of Hotel Russell, it is also necessary to gain the trust of
customer because hotel is serving its services to the customer in which customer satisfaction is
must. If customer is satisfied with the services provided than it feel to be important for the
organization. Thus deep trust automatically built among the customer and hotel. That is why,
hotel should focus on this ethics to maintain the integrity and trust among customers.
Diversity:
Since in hotel Russell, the employees are working from a diverse range of geographical
areas. Therefore it is essential for the hotel to make a collaboration among the employee so that
they can work for the welfare of business. The organization should focus on providing equal
opportunities to all of its employees of training, development, salaries, incentives etc. This will
motivate all the employees to think about the positives of company. Therefore maximizing the
value of each employee makes the business to keep running in profitability.
Compliance and government issues:
There are some rules and regulations set by government in any location where business is
operating (Madu, 2016). The policies made by government should be followed by organization.
In case of hotel Russell, the organization should focus on maintaining the policies of government
and its own which help them to operate their business with an ease. The company should train all
its employees so that they will aware of the policies which should be followed. This will help the
organization to focus best on their work.
Social Issue
Apart from the several ethical issues there are some social issues also which are
pertaining to run a business which are stated as below:
Environmental Concerns:
It is about the concern of environment activities which is done by the business. In case of
hotel Russell, the wastages is about the concern to environment. In case of mismanagement of
wastage, it will harm the environment of earth which creates pollution. Therefore hotel to should

focus on providing better climate to its customers around it by just protecting the environment of
earth. Wastage of food, saving of non-renewable energy etc. are the factors on which a hotel
should focus on.
Worker Health and Safety:
Since the human resources are the most important asset of any organization. It is
necessary for the organization to protect the rights of each employees so that they can work
positively for the benefit of organization. In case of hotel Russell, since all the employees are
necessary for the welfare of organization because they required to communicate with the
customers. Therefore the rights of employees should have been protected.
3. Identification and differentiation between different types of networking technologies
Networking technologies is the connected systems which are connected via wireless,
wired, satellite, optic fibre etc. to share the information across various parts of the world. There
are various technologies which are used in networking such as:
WAN:
It is the networking technology which is used in the area in which the systems are placed
at very far distance. Although it might be confined within a state or country (Mishnick, 2017).
The network is expanded within the large geographical area. WAN is the connection of different
types of LAN which are interconnected together to form WAN. These LANs are connected
through different telephone lines and radio waves so that they can provide communication
among different channels. There are basically two types of WAN such as Switched WAN and
Point-to-Point WAN. It is hard to maintain the quality of WAN because it is a large network
therefore it has more congestion while communication. The communication network which is
used in WAN is PSTN(Public Switched Telephone Network) or Satellite Link. Since data has to
travel a long distance therefore the chances of distortion in network has increased more. The
speed of it also down as compared to other networking technologies. It provides speed of about
kilobyte/second or megabyte/second. The data is transferred through optical fibres, microwaves
and satellites.
MAN:
It is the networking technology which is limited to a specific city or different cities. This
type of network is smaller than WAN and bigger than LAN. It also covers a large geographical
area and the services is provided through ISP(Internet Service Provider). This network is

designed for the person who requires more speed as compared to WAN. It is not easy to maintain
and sustain a MAN. The congestion in network is also larger as compared to LAN and also it is
not easy for an organization to handle such type of network. MODEM or wired cable can be sued
for the transmission of data across different channels. The examples of MAN include a cable TV
in the city or high speed DSL(Digital subscriber line) line to the home of customer.
LAN:
This is known as Local Area Network which has its boundary within a building or a
couple of meters (Park, 2017). This type of network has small range of connections that is why
data has to travel less distance. Therefore the speed of this network is greatest from MAN or
WAN. This type of network is designed for the person who requires more speed. It can provide a
range of speed such as 4 Mbps to 6 Mbps. The type of connections can be wired or wireless.
Mostly to capture more speed and reliability in network people use wired connection. Although
there is an option of wireless connection also. The example of this type of network include a
bunch of students playing LAN game without internet.

different nations with the help of a click. This allows them to globalize their business in various
countries.
Drawback of investing in IT
Security Issue:
It is one of the issue which is faced by companies in implementing IT (Wang and Liu,
2018). Since all the data is collected at a single place hence if important information of hotel
Russell has stolen than it will be a huge loss to the organization.
CONCLUSION
From the above report, it can be concluded that IT plays an important role in the success
and failures of it. If it allows benefit than there are some issues also which are very serious when
happened. Therefore use of IT should be done with proper security and knowledge of cyber
crime. The organizations should also consider the social and ethical issues which are required in
the development of an organization. Apart from that, different networking technologies are also
there which helps the organization to choose out of them to help them in implementing the
network.
