Report on Smart Home Technology and Future IT Skills

The report is going to discuss the overview of smart home technology while describing the technology in
the context of IT graduate students. Besides, the report will discuss the impacts of these IoT and M2M
based technologies on the future job skills required by the IT University graduates.
Summary of journal articles
The all five articles are containing SHT’s usage and their challenges while implementing into the whole
world.
First journal article
Mussab Alaa, "A review of smart home applications based on Internet of Things.," Journal of Network and
Computer Applications, vol. 97, no. 1, p. 48, 2017.
The author of this article has reviewed the smart home technologies in the context of IoT (Internet of
Things) being the most trending new technology of the world. This article has successfully highlighted the
importance of smart home concept and its applications for the municipal services. In this era of advanced
technologies, millennial users always require comfort, ease and innovation into theirv daily-life activities.
Therefore, the author has highlighted the use of smart home applications where the user can easily
operate, monitor, switch and manage all of the home appliances with their mobile or some remote device.
Second journal article.
P. Lister, "A smarter knowledge commons for smart learning," Smart Learning Environments, vol. 5, no. 1,
pp. 1-15, 2018.
In the chosen article, author has mainly talked about smart learning and smart applications of the smart
knowledge. The article has used the example of smart home technoogies for illustrating smart learning
environments effectively. In this technology enabled era, users should be smart and hence the world needs
to be smarter first. The article has highlighted the aplications of smart knowledge and smart learning by the
use of IoT and SHTs. Here, when we are at home as well as when we are not at home, at both the instant
home appliances can be operated by the smart learning applications.
Third journal article
A. Kramers, M. Hojer, N. Lovehagen, and J. Wangel, "Smart sustainable cities–Exploring ICT solutions for
reduced energy use in cities," Environmental modelling & software, vol. 56, pp. 52-62, 2016.
This article is mainly based on energy efficiency needs of modern world. The author suggested that as we
are increasing in population exponentially hence we need to think about smart sustainable cities. To do so,
the author has utilised the way of information and communication technologies while exploring ICT
solutions in order to promote reduced energy usage in global cities. In this context, smart home technology
has been quoted as one of the major solutions of making the world energy efficient. The journal article is
focusing on environmental modelling and software through IoT, M2M and ICT solutions.
Fourth journal article

Lin Huichen and W. Neil, "IoT Privacy and Security Challenges for Smart Home Environments," Information,
vol. 7, no. 3, p. 44, 2016.
This article has highlighted that smart home technology (SHT) is one of the ICT based solution for optimizing
the energy usage by the homes of the global cities while making them smart and sustainable
instantaneously. However, smart home application and implementation is not that easy because of the
challenges associated by the SHTs. In this context, the author of this article has focused on critically
important challenges for the smart home environments, and they include IoT security and privacy
challenges. It means that for SHT, world will be totally depend on software enabled system and for that the
system must be reliable, safe, private as well as secure from the perspective of users.
Fifth journal article

review," Sustainable Cities and Society, vol. 31, pp. 183-212, 2017.
In this article, author of the article has reserached upon smart sustainable cities of the upcoming time. In
this context, the author has practices an extensive interdisciplinary literature revire. In addition, the paper
suggests that for well-managed future societies the entire world need to be smarter and sustainbale at the
same time. Authors have used the wide concept of sustainability for explaining the use of ICT, IoT and M2M
technologies in the area of smart sustainable cities. In this way, as per the authors it has been summarized
that smart home technolgies will be helping the whole world while making the global cities smart as well as
sustainable from a sustainable energy viewpoint.
