INTRODUCTION
An effective IT system refers a set of elements and tools that help an organization to align
its all strategy and objectives with daily actions. It refers all computer systems, networks,
hardware and internet websites that make all functions of the company accurate and easy
(Laudon and Laudon, 2016). Some examples of IT includes communicative networking,
Website, mobile networking etc. This present study is based on British Home Plc that has
subsidiaries in retail, consultancy, property and travel industry. This company was founded by
Colonel Williams in the year of 1950. IT served only a group of customers and did not target all
type of customers. Due to lack of innovation it became failed and sell the business to an
American company.
This present study is going to show the importance and increasing use of IT system
within all functional departments of British home company. By providing different tools, IT
department makes able to all functional department in accomplishing its goals. It will also show
different ways in which IT system store and process data for knowledge management customer
relationship and communication management. For improving business operations and making
the business sustainable, IT supports value added changes.
TASK 1
Use of IT system within different functions of organization
British Home Plc is a successful company that has subsidiaries like supermarket, legal
and accounting in some industries such as property, consultancy, travel and retail. There are
several functions of this company which play a vital role in accomplishing its per-determined
goals and objectives. Some objectives are: to identify the role of different IT system for
organization objectives, to analyse reliable IT systems that can respond to organizational
requirements and to evaluate IT system that support value added change. It is stated that this
company did not grow as like its competitors because it was having a high profit margins and
focused on only exclusive group of customers. There was a lack of innovation in its IT
department and all functions. Uses of IT system in different functions are described as follows:

has several subsidiaries in different industries as well as have separated IT department in each
subsidiaries which create several barriers (Argyris, 2017). IT system can solve this
communication problem as it allows to the company to achieve high speed informations via

this tool of communicating. British Home Plc has different subsidiaries, so it is important for it to
communicate with each subsidiary. It is the way by which employees can communicate with

employees. It makes communication easy and save time.

technology for making this business innovative (Salama and et.al., 2017). So, it can be said that
the main aim of this company is to innovate its business and attract wider range of customers and
make a centralized IT department at the group level. Rather than these objectives, it has
described some other objectives such as:
To analyse flexible IT system that can respond to this company's requirements.
To evaluate IT systems to support value added change in this company.
To understand the main roles of different IT system for supporting British Home Plc's objectives.

the right time. It should also make an effective use of its Websites, social media platforms for
getting feedbacks from customers. By allowing customers to provide feedbacks, it can identify
the main problem involved in its products and services. It can also identify demands and
preferences of customers with the help of feedbacks and can make appropriate changes in
strategies and plan. With the help of database technology and internet, British Home can offer
incentive program and custom online ordering system to its customers and employees. It can
help them out in retaining skilled workforce as well as potential customers within an
