Introduction
In this assessment report, our group is evaluating the interface designs which are created by the
other group members. In the evaluation, our group has identified the problems according to the
usability for the users and the heuristic principles which are not followed by all the designs. So in
this assessment after rectifying all the problems in all the designs our group will give some
solutions to make the designs free from problems.
Design Evaluation
For the evaluation of cinema hall application interface designs which are made by the members
of another group, we will use the heuristic principles of design by Jakob Neilson. In our group,
we are going to find the problems in the designs and explain the problem with the proper
solution for it. We are two members in the assessment group Dinesh Reddy Nomula and Vinay
Reddy Nimmala and we will evaluate all the designs (Jimenez, et al., 2016).
The ten heuristic principles for the design standards on the basis of the interface design, are
defined below:
1. System Status Visibility: This is the most important heuristic principle for the designing
and this principle supports the users to know about the progress which is running in the
application which makes them aware about every background process detail.
Issue Identified by Vinay Reddy Nimmala
Why this Issue is a Problem: Before or on the Login Screen there is no splash bar or
progress bar for the user convenience.
Issue Type: Major
Location: Login Page, Payment Page.
Solving Approach: This issue can be solved by implementing the progress bar on the
screens.
2. Match Between System and Real World: This principle presents the connectivity of the
design with the user. The design should be like the real world appearance which gives a natural
impact on the user for using the application.
Issue Identified by Dinesh Reddy Nomula
Why this Issue is a Problem: The screen should give real-world impact on the user but there
is no natural effect in this design.
Issue Type: Major
Location: Seat Booking Page, Payment Method page.
Solving Approach: This issue can be solved by implementing the things which are user-
friendly.

3. Prevention of Errors: The design should be following the error prevention better than after
error messages. This principle prevents the errors on a page by showing a confirmation message
or alert to the user. So the users can decide the selected option twice for the confirmation.
Issue Identified by Vinay Reddy Nimmala
Why this Issue is a Problem: This issue can take the user in some problem if he or she click
any option by mistake.
Issue Type: Major
Location: Payment Page.
Solving Approach: This issue can be solved by implementing a confirmation message on
the Payment screen for confirmation.
4. Recognition Rather than Recall: This principle is for showing some options to the user
on the basis of some keywords so the user doesn’t have to recognize or remember the
information. The instruction sets for this facility should be appropriate according to the keywords
and user (Khajouei, et al., 2018).
Issue Identified by Dinesh Reddy Nomula
Why this Issue is a Problem: This issue is for the search bars mainly. But in this design user
have to remember the keywords.
Issue Type: Major
Location: Bookings search by name, Bookings search booking id, Bookings search by Bar
Code
Solving Approach: In the search bar, there should be some keywords implemented for
usability.
5. Efficiency and Flexibility of Use: There should be some accelerators in the design page
according to this heuristic principle. This functionality provides the user speed and better
connectivity to the application.
Issue Identified by Vinay Reddy Nimmala
Why this Issue is a Problem: User can go to any page or access any functionality if these
are included on the screen.
Issue Type: Major
Location: Bookings Page, Movies Page
Solving Approach: This issue can be solved by implementing the accelerators on the
required screen.
6. Consistency and Standards: According to this heuristic principle the design should be
consistent for the users of that application. Users should not get confused about the inconsistent
structure of button or anything (Joyce et al., 2016).
Issue Identified by Dinesh Reddy Nomula

Why this Issue is a Problem: The design is not consistent and according to the standards of
design so the user cannot properly interact with the screens.
Issue Type: Major
Location: Login Page, Movies Page, Movie Description Page, Payment Page
Solving Approach: This issue can be solved by implementing or following the design
standards in all the screens.
7. User Freedom and Control: In this heuristic, principle user has the right to go anywhere
in the application among the screens. If the user will select some design by mistake, then the user
will want an emergency exit from there to go on the screen of his choice.
Issue Identified by Vinay Reddy Nimmala
Why this Issue is a Problem: User cannot verify their activities or the details if they are
incorrect.
Issue Type: Major
Location: Payment Page
Solving Approach: This issue can be implemented by following User Freedom and Control
principle.
8. Help Users recognize, diagnose, and recovering from errors: The error message or
alert which are going to show to the users should be very simple. The messages will contain
information about the problem and then it suggests some solution for the problem.
Issue Identified by Dinesh Reddy Nomula
Why this Issue is a Problem: Because of this issue user cannot get any facility to recover
their errors.
Issue Type: Major
Location: Payment Page, Login Page
Solving Approach: There should be a help page and pop up boxes for the necessary alerts in
the design.
9. Aesthetic and Minimalist Design: This heuristic principle is responsible for making the
designs minimalist by using icons instead of the dialogue and or any other phrases which will
attract users to use the application (Khajouei et al., 2018).
Issue Identified by Vinay Reddy Nimmala
Why this Issue is a Problem: Because of this issue the user cannot interact in a friendly
manner with the application screens.
Issue Type: Major
Location: Movie page, Payment Method page
Solving Approach: There should be some icons instead of the phrases because they will
attract users more and more functionality can be added in one screen.

10. Help and Documentation: This heuristic principle says the application should be used
without the documentation but the documentation should be prepared separately which will help
the users to identify the features and another task of the application.
Issue Identified by Dinesh Reddy Nomula
Why this Issue is a Problem: There is no help page in this design so the user cannot get any
help if they are facing some problem.
Issue Type: Major
Location: Payment Page, Bookings Page
Solving Approach: This issue can be solved by implementing or creating a help page for
this application.
Remediation Actions for Solving the Issues
There are some issues and their solutions listed which are identified by Vinay Reddy Nimmala:
Issue: Before or on the Login Screen there is no splash bar or progress bar for the user
convenience.
Solution for the Issue: This issue can be solved by implementing the progress bar on the
screens.
Issue: The screen should give real-world impact on the user but there is no natural effect in
this design.
Solution for the Issue: This issue can be solved by implementing the things which are user-
friendly.
Issue: This issue can take the user in some problem if he or she click any option by mistake.
Solution for the Issue: This issue can be solved by implementing the confirmation message
on the Payment screen for confirmation.
Issue: This issue is for the search bars mainly. But in this design user have to remember the
keywords.
Solution for the Issue: In the search bar there should be some keywords implemented for
usability.
There are some issues and their solutions listed which are identified by Dinesh Reddy Nomula:
Issue: User cannot verify their activities or the details if they are incorrect.
Solution for the Issue: This issue can be implemented by following User Freedom and
Control principle.
Issue: This issue user cannot get any facility to recover their errors.
Solution for the Issue: There should be a help page and pop up boxes for the necessary
alerts in the design.
Issue: This issue the user cannot interact in a friendly manner with the application screens.
Solution for the Issue: There should be some icons instead of the phrases because they will
attract users more and more functionality can be added in one screen.
