Introduction
Heuristic evaluation technique used for the analysis of designed UI on the basis of usability of a
customer environment to discover problems that can be fixed and dealt with as part of an
iterative UI development. It is made up of a small number of expert inspectors who inspect the
system and measure its adherence with the "heuristics" stated by Jacob and Rolf. The heuristic
evaluation (HE) is an evaluation technique which can be utilized to define the usability issues
and errors of websites, web pages and web applications. Multiple pieces of evidence and
examples available to explain the issues and errors faced by users over the developed website or
the web application (Khajouei et al. 2018). Utilization of all the principles stated under Heuristic
has been explained in this report for the analysis of webpage developed for “Hoyts Cinema”
Australia.

Question 1
Different principles defined under Heuristic principles of Nielson & Moloch has been taken for
the analysis of different webpages developed for the Hoyts Cinema to identify all the significant
errors and issues with the current webpages along with possible remediation to resolve those
issues and problems with the webpage.
Error 1st
Issue: Huge amount of unnecessary information available on the webpage.
Location: Support page for Gift Store
Problem: Multiple information and text displayed over the webpage developed to support and
help users with their issues and problems related with gift store due to which it does not follow
minimalistic design for the webpage
Significance: Moderate
Possible Remediation: Implementation of search buttons along with a list of important issues to
be displayed on the web page with less content and information with the help of icons and
images.

Error 2:
Issue: Selection of movie and payment without user sign in or registration.
Location: Movie, seat selection, payment page
Problem: Selection of movie, seats, showtime, as well as payment, must be available for
authorized personnel only instead of available for every guests/user due to which it does not
follow Visibility for the status of the system as well as Match with real-system of Heuristic
principles.
Significance: High
Possible Remediation: Implementation of sign-in/registration prompt for every user before
proceeding them to access the movie, seat selection and payment page.

Error 3:
Issue: Movie not available in the cinema still displayed on the movie page.
Location: Movie page
Problem: Movies not available in the cinema but still showing on the movie page provide
incorrect information to the users. This information must not be displayed over the movie page to
the users if those movies are not available due to which it does not follow Aesthetic design and
Error prevention principle of Heuristic.
Significance: High
Possible Remediation: Only existing and upcoming movies should be displayed over the movie
page for the users.

Error 4:
Issue: Very few information available on the Movie page about the movie and “Movie Info”
button with different color.
Location: Movie page
Problem: Move page does not display basic details and information about the movie in order to
help user with basis details for the movies such as reviews, ratings, descriptions, etc. so that user
can get basic information about different movies before making final selection. It does not match
with real-world applications and also failed to follow recognition instead of recalling the
principle of Heuristics (Zhang, 2016).
Significance: Low
Possible Remediation: Implementation of basic details about the movie over the movie page to
provide basic details of the movie and help users with easy selection on the basis of information
displayed on the page instead of recognizing and recalling different information from other
sources.

Error 5:
Issue: Description unavailable on the Rewards page about available plans.
Location: Rewards page
Problem: Rewards page display the plans available but basic details and features included with
the plans is unavailable due to which user failed to get all the details about features and facilities
available with the selected rewards plan. It failed to follow Help user recognize and Efficiency of
use (Paz et al. 2018).
Significance: Moderate
Possible Remediation: Implementation of available features and facilities along with plans
available on the Rewards page for the users.

Error 6:
Issue: Inconsistent design on different pages, buttons and images.
Location: Home page, movie page, About us page, Corporate Solution page
Problem: Difference in size of images & fonts, the color of buttons on the different page
resulting in variation in the entire design of the web pages developed for the cinema. It does not
follow Consistency and Standards in the entire design. It may produce confusing and issues with
different users while accessing different pages for the same function (Yin et al. 2015).
Significance: Moderate
Possible Remediation: Implementation of consistent design on all pages of the cinema to
provide effective navigation and consistency within the entire design developed for the cinema.

Error 7:
Issue: Invalid information displayed to the user and incorrect validation.
Location: Login page and Booking page.
Problem: Invalid information displayed to the users on the basis of entered details provide
incorrect message as well as validation resulting error while accessing account or making ticket
booking for the movie. It does not follow Recovery from error principle by heuristics (Nielsen et
al. 2016).
Significance: Low
Possible Remediation: Proper validation of details filled by the user along with error message in
case of incorrect data filled by the user so that error can be avoided and recovered as soon as
possible by the user.
