ITECH1100 Scarf Revival Project: Business Process Automation Solution

This project provides a software-based automated solution for Scarf Revival, a company specializing in custom scarfs. The solution covers various aspects of the business, including staff working hours, wage calculations, cost analysis, and process improvement. Excel is used to calculate yearly wages, utility costs, and total outgoing costs. Stacked area charts visualize quote amount and manufacturing cost variations. Task 0:
In this particular assignment a software based automated solution is produced for Scarf
Revival clothing manufacturer company. The company is specialized for building custom
type one type scarfs. The produced scarfs are sold through online. The three staffs who are
working in the company are Angus, Barnardo and Celeste where Angus and Barnardo
manufacturer scarfs and the deliver, order and sales are managed by Celeste.
Working time of Angus is 7.5 hours in Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in every week.
Barnardo’s working time is also 7.5 hours on Thursday and Friday. While, Celeste works for
4.5 hours in each day. Additional responsibility is shared by Angus who works for Monday,
Tuesday and in Wednesday for one extra hour. Similarly, an additional hour is invested by
Celeste in Thursday, Friday and Saturday in every week. The name of employees and their
working hours are given in the following table.

Task 1:
Now, the wages of the staff members’ and the wage of replacement employee for temporary
period on yearly basis is calculated in excel with suitable formulas. In addition to it the cost

of utility and fixed cost is calculated and then added with the yearly wage cost to find the
yearly outgoing cost.

So the total outgoing cost of Scarf Revival scarf manufacturer is found to be using excel is
$109096.
Task 2:
The variation of the quote amount for different staff members in different times in the
historical year is shown by the following stacked area chart.
Similarly the variation of the manufacturing cost for different staff member is created in excel
by a stacked area chart as shown below.

Now, for finding the variation of the quote amount for each unique category from staff to
staff a pivot table is created where count, average and standard deviation of quote amounts
for each category is found in excel. Then by a column chart the variation is presented below.

Now, it is found from the chart the standard deviation of SilkXS category is the maximum
and hence the scarfs of size XS and material silk has the most variation of quote amount from
staff to staff. Also, the average quote amount of SilkXXL is the highest.
Task 3:
Now, for improving the process and maintaining the uniformity in the quote amount of each
unique category based on material and size of garments a swim lane diagram is developed by
staff members and an automatic display of quote amount is needed to provide based on the
diagram. The swim lame diagram is shown below.
Now, for improving the process and making the quote amount uniform for each unique
category an automated display of quote amount based on the selected size and material of the
scarf by customer is formed by the swim lane diagram as shown below.

Here, the staff member can choose the ordered size and material of the scarf and the quote
amount will be displayed to the customer and the quote amount is taken as the average quote
amount of that category in the historical years.

Task 4:

Now, the process is further improved where the popular and not popular category of the
scarfs as ordered by the customers is automatically detected based on a limit of orders of that
category in the historical years. In this case it is assumed that if a category is ordered more
than 11 times in the historical years then it is popular otherwise it is considered as not
popular. Now, as shown in the previous part the quote amount of the category is displayed
and if customer accepts the quote the category is checked in the inventory. Here, inventory is
randomized with in stock or not in stock status and if the category is not in stock then start
manufacture is displayed and the item is manufactured.
