Introduction
Integrating client requirement and improving quality of software is an important
consideration of software testing process. However proper standard in software testing is
required in this context as it improves quality metrics of software testing process. Hence
application of software testing standard is becoming is very popular.
This report provides overview of the criteria that is considered for the selection of the
selection of required standard. The report provides description of the standard along with few
questions which include copyright related to the standard. Along with that, the addition of the
standard that provides the setting for the testing process is discussed. Scope statement for the
standard is analyzed in the report. The key terms that provides context for developing a proper
insight about the standard is properly presented in this paper. The testing process that is
considered in this report is ISO/IEC 9241-11. The main application of this standard in software
testing process is properly analyzed and described in this report with sufficient details.
Difference of this standard with the reference paper recommended standard have been describe
as well in this report.

process. This standard provides procedures that provides requirement specifications that is
needed for gathering requirements of consumers

The key terms that are essential for execution of the testing process comprises
requirements gatherings, requirements integration and usability evaluation.
Application of the standard
The core purpose of the ISO 9241- 11 testing standard is to provide a defined and
standard aspect of software testing process. This framework provides integration of different
aspects of gathering user requirements and integrate this process with usability evaluation. This
is done to make sure that software development is consistent with usability requirements and is
effective from user point of view. Hence, the application of this standard is to increase usability
standard of any software development. Usability as defined by this standard is dependent on
context for software application and hence usability aspect varies according to the variation of
this context of application.

Relevance in software testing the standard
Usability is an important aspect of any software testing. In fact, one of the key goal of
software testing is to provide a detailed description of various usability issues of the software and
modify it accordingly to increase the usability aspect of any software. Now this standard provide
guidance in acquiring users’ requirements for software testing and improving overall testing
process. Hence, this standard is relevant in software testing process.
Discussion regarding the chosen paper
The article that is selected in this report provides a detailed description of the usability
requirements in software testing. According to the article, defining usability requirement is an
important procedure to ensure that software testing is proper and effective. Although there are
various definitions regarding usability requirement, it is required to develop a standard definition
for defining user requirement. However, this definition according to the author varies according
to the context of project and hence there is no fixed definition, which is applicable for every
project. Hence, the author has analyzed two different case study to explore this concept and
demonstrate this through actual project. Hence, the author article has implemented this standard
in a usability evaluation of a web-based health awareness portal on smartphone devices using
ISO 9241- 11 model. This article has analyzed issues that are relevant in software-based project
and how to review these issues properly so that the product delivery is in accordance with the
requirements of the consumer. Identification of issues and strategy for reviewing them is what
makes this article an important one in this context.

Listing of differences
The chosen article has discussed about importance of ISO 9241- 11 and its application in
software testing process. In addition to that, the article has also described about the application of
this standard in software testing process in developing mobile-based project. In contrast to that,
the article provided as reference, has only discussed about various software testing process and
various standards for software testing. The paper provides various testing standards which
includes the testing standards namely BS 58887, MOD 00-55, IEEE, D0178B (draft), IEC/ WG9,
IEC/ Nuclear and ITSEC
The article has provided emphasis on adopting ISO 9241- 11 in mobile application
development. Hence, the aim is to integrate the framework that is provided by this ISO 9241- 11
standard. Hence, discussion of this standard from theoretical framework has not been considered
which makes this document relevant in practical projects. However, only theoretical description
of the software testing standards has been a major limitation of the reference article. Not just the
software standards are outdated, it is not based on practical context either. Hence, this document
is applicable in developing a basic overview of the standards discussed in this paper, through
outdated.
Although the chosen article has considered application of ISO 9241- 11 standard in actual
project development, no information is provided about the background that set the context for the
development of this standard. Hence, a beginner might find it difficult to identify the motivation
behind the development of this standard. However, while the reference article has discussed
about those standard, it has provided about historical development of the standards. Hence, this
provides a detailed information about systematic application of the standards, which is not
provided in the chosen document while applying the standard in project. Hence, a new software

tester might find it difficult in applying ISO 9241- 11 standard while executing software-testing
process. However, this article chosen in this report has provided the testing specifications in
accordance with the test policy and strategy phase, Test monitoring, Test planning and
controlling, test designing and performance and test situation, which is described as well in the
chosen document. However, no such approach is considered in the reference document.
Conclusion
The report analyses different software testing standard that is provided in the chosen
document and standards that have been described in the reference document. Standards that are
described in the reference document are not considered in contemporary software testing
process. whereas ISO 9241- 11 is an improved and modified standard which provides an context
for gathering requirements of consumers and apply it in testing process to evaluate the product in
terms of consumer requirements which also ensure proper usability of the product which is an
important focus of the software testing process. Hence, the chosen article has considered an
actual project to demonstrate how this software testing standard and principles is incorporated in
actual project thus providing context to apply this standard in other project as well.
