INTRODUCTION
In this report, the HR assistant’s role at Jack’s Store will be explained as well as the
task comprises of the motivational theories that enhance the functioning of overall
employees. Motivation is basically the psychological aspect that help to stimulate the
actions and covert dreams into reality. For the better understanding of report Jack
stores has been selected which is the discount store that is opened by Tesco in
2018. The discounted chain of company is formulated to fight against Lidl and Aldi
and build significant position in UK. Being an HR Assistant within Jack store need to
perform task where different motivation theories are analysed that can assist staff of
Jack store to remain satisfied and enhance the overall productivity.
MAIN BODY
Motivation is the internal process that stimulate an individual to initiate the
actions for their personal welfare in terms of success or growth. This can be in terms
of intrinsic which is the part of push factor where employee work and develop due to
self-realisation. Similarly, push factor is the part of extrinsic motivation where the
manager and leader via positive reinforcement encourages the individual to attain
better position (Beamish, 2013). Motivation is the intrinsic or extrinsic factor that
encourages an individual to perform their action in order to fulfil particular need and
desire. Strong motivation leads to expertise as it pushes the effort of people in an
affirmative manner. It is basically the psychological aspect that help to stimulate the
actions and covert dreams into reality (Aral, Dellarocas and Godes, 2013). In terms
of the Jack store, which is newly opened outlet in UK, motivation takes an essential
role in order to eradicate the turnover or absenteeism issue and successfully attain
the target.
Theories of motivation
Maslow theory: This is the popular motivational theory which was
propounded by Abraham Maslow. It consists of five hierarchical needs which starts
from basic or physiological need and move till self-actuation. As per this theory
gratification of one need can only motivate the human to fulfil next higher need.
Along with that the desire to fulfil one need after other goes in the sequential
manner.
Application in context to Jack stores
Physiological need: It comprises of basic needs like shelter, food and cloth
that help people to survive. So, the manager of Jack store needs to engage the
employee by offering them fair remuneration based on their capability and work
experience, adequate temperature, shift as well as condition to work.
Safety need: People usually remain concern about their as well as family
member's security in terms health and property. Due to which the HR manager of
respected store announces the retirement and health insurance facilities for their
employees because of which they remain satisfied and work actively (Quinlan and
et. al., 2019).

Social need: It represent the feeling of affection and belongingness which is
share between the employer and employee of Jack store. This assist them to
generate confidence or loyalty towards company because of which the turnover rate
of company falls.
Esteem need: This indicate the dignity and achievement that builds the
significant status of an employee. Within the workplace of Jack store, the manager
needs to boost up the confidence of personnel through appraisal and recognition
which add value to their career.
Self-actualisation: The last stage represents the feeling of achievement as
by this time people preferably attain predetermined position. Jack store are
responsible for the growth and development of an employee that finally maximises
the potential and capability in terms of doing business.
Advantage
It basically considers different needs of an individual which include both lower
and higher level need which determine better understanding of concept.
This theory is applicable in all the different fields of business (Di Serio, Ibáñez
and Kloos, 2013).
Disadvantage
In case of cultural differences this theory does not fit appropriately. Along with
that it is not necessary all needs take place in sequential manner.
Herzberg theory: It is the two-factor theory that involve motivation and
hygiene factors that help to encourage the representatives of an organisation in
terms to perform their duties worthwhile. This theory was coined by Frederick
Herzberg in year 1959 and determine that there is certain job factor which either
leads to job satisfaction or dissatisfaction. Along with that these terms are not
opposite of one other because if the absence of certain factors leads to job
dissatisfaction that it does not mean its presence can generate satisfaction feeling.
Application in context to Jack store
Hygiene factor: It involve the company policies, working condition,
relationship with colleague, working shifts, salary as well as security. In case of
absence of such needs may cause the job dissatisfaction but probably the employee
will not leave the job. The top executive of Jack store needs to minimise the job
dissatisfaction issue by offering fair remuneration and binding significant relationship
between employer and employee. Along with that job security needs to be offered
because it can help to enrich the meaning work as personnel perform competitive
task in order to overpower other rivalries like Aldi and Lidl.
Motivation factor: It encompasses achievement, recognition and growth
which needs to be offered by the respected company to maintain job satisfaction.
Otherwise, lack of such factors can instigate the individual either to leave or switch
the job. So, the manger cannot compromise on motivational factor because it finally

helps to attain the long-term growth and development. Jack store being a part of
Tesco need to offer wide area to the employee where their skills are enhanced in
order to expand the footfall of company. Accordingly, performance appraisal
programme is planned for the betterment and development of each and every
employee.
Advantage
Here focus is given on the intrinsic motivation that comes within and help to
improve the position of employee (Prebensen and et. al., 2013).
The company focuses to mitigate the problem of employee by giving them
comprehensive environment to work.
Disadvantage
No correlation between job satisfaction as well as job productivity is
explained.
The external factors such as paying different salary by different companies for
similar job is ignored. But in practical life this factor cannot be eliminated
(Reiss, 2012).
CONCLUSION
From the above report it has been determined that motivation technique plays
the significant role within an organisation. As it helps to establish the employment
relation due to which different parties coordinate with one other and collective
achieve predetermined target. This successfully enhances the arena of employee to
conduct the operations which finally leads to diverse knowledge and thinking ability.
Therefore, the HR is responsible to inculcate the motivation technique for the overall
sustainable development.
