Jacky Rosen became a congresswoman in the 115th Congress after winning the 2016 elections.
She is a representative of the Nevada’s Third District. She serves on the various committees such
as the House Armed Services, and House Science, Space and Technology, and the Subcommittee
on Research and Technology and Energy (Davidson et al.11). She is also part of the
Congressional Air Force Caucus, Problem Solvers Caucus, the Democratic Israel Working
Group, the Democratic Women’s Working Group, and the Bipartisan Taskforce for Combating
Anti-Semitism. This paper discusses the significance of Rosen membership and their impact on
her congressional district.
Significance of Jacky Rosen membership
Rosen representation extends to Southern Nevada and the suburbs of Las Vegas. Her education
background in computer science enables her to make effective policies as she serves on the
Armed Services Committee and House Science, Space and Technology. Her policies are not
aimed only to benefit his congressional district but the whole UK at large. However, her
increased passion on CTE development and early childhood STEM education has provided
various jobs to her congress area residents. Unemployment is an issue that affects millions of

people worldwide, and Nevada is not an exemption (Swobe et al. 5). The youth especially, end-
up engaging in various unethical matters such as crime and drugs due to the high rate of
unemployment. Rosen has lived in Nevada for so long and therefore, knows the needs of her
residents. STEM jobs do not require one to have a four-year college or university degree.
Therefore, more jobs are created for youth who can engage in something useful and make a life
out of it. As such, she proposed a bipartisan bill that would focus more on STEM education.
These acts are the Code Like a Girl and Building Blocks of Stem Acts. Her interest in uplifting
women to take part in the male-dominated industry such as STEM field is based primarily on her
congressional district needs. For instance, in Nevada, about 3, 000 jobs in computing are
available, but there are no qualified candidates to fill. Therefore, her aim to promote various
opportunities for youths in Nevada has seen progress in youths, especially women and girls have
been able to venture in technology-related courses and jobs. Technology plays a vital role in the
growth of businesses and organizations and consequently, the overall development of a country.
Technology promotes innovation and invention which is crucial to business success. These
policies do not only have a positive impact on Nevada’s people but the whole United States
(US). By producing qualified youth in technology, US can expand its economy as well as
maintain its global competitiveness. She has also shaped her district people to become problem
solvers through ACTE organization (Toglia 24). Nevada is known for producing great engineers
like Hoover Dam who has explored various frontiers in science, technology, and computing.
Fights for sustainable energy
Rosen has invested substantially in energy and infrastructure in Nevada. Through this, she was
able to create good-paying jobs for Nevada people. She has also trained her people on the
importance of working smart as compared to working harder. Through membership in the

committee, she has been able to fight for and against various bills directed to water and energy
development. One of the amendments she fought against was the $120 million funding that was
set aside for licensing process to create a nuclear waste repository at the Nevada’s Yucca
Mountain. Together with other two Nevada’s lawmakers; Rep. Dina Titus and Rep. Ruben
Kihuen, they emphasized that Yucca Mountain is not and should not be treated as a dumping site
for nuclear waste. As the committee sat to deliberate on this issue, Jacky fought so hard to ensure
the licensing process did not go through. While other neighboring county representatives of
Nevada supported the restarting process, she knew the impact the site would have to Nevada
residents if the bill was passed. The Yucca Mountain was approved as the site viable for nuclear
waste disposal by the Congress in 1987 based on the nation’s energy generating plants (Rechard
et al. 16). The federal government, therefore, has spent $15 billion since then in trying to
determine the viability of the site as well as in developing it. When President Donald Trump
added more $120 million to the review of the project, Rosen termed the move as imperative
since it would more risk to Nevada’s residents. The safety of the site was in question, and Rosen
vowed to fight to the end for her people. The fact that the location is immediate to a fault line, it
was crucial to take precautionary measures to protect the Nevada people.
Jacky advocating for public schools strengthening
Rosen is very open in providing quality education for her district men. That why she was so
disappointed when her fellow Republicans failed to reauthorize loans for students, especially the
Perkins student loan program. According to Rosen, the loan program has seen a countless
number of students particularly those from low-income families go through college education
comfortably. Jacky noted that school going children in Nevada did not perform so well in
sciences and Mathematics. This year only 18% were able to reach proficiency in math for the 8th

graders. That’s why she emphasized much on the Building Block of the STEM bill which would
focus much in early childhood education (Maltese et al. 891). The program would prepare the
students and give them the necessary skills to be able to be competitive in the current 21st
century.
Women equality and reproductive and health care rights
Rosen while she was doing her campaigns before being elected, she promised her people that she
would fight for the rights of women especially health care and reproductive rights. What she
believes is that as a woman you need to make your decision concerning your body and health.
Therefore, the government does not have any right in involving itself to women-related matters
on health (McBride et al. 156). She has, therefore, been able to fight for planned government
parenthood which includes contraception decisions and any other issue between a woman and
her doctor.
Immigration reform support
Through her membership in the Air and Land Forces, she advocated for immigration reform. The
reform she pushed so much for, created a pathway to US citizenship. Her idea of comprehensive
immigration reform was to make US borders secure as it would enable the government to find
criminals and thereby deport them. It is true there some immigrants both in Nevada and US at
large who are undocumented. Therefore, such reform would bring out the unregistered
immigrants from their hiding into the economy (Wilson 57). The significance of this
development is that it would create numerous jobs in Nevada after passing the immigration
reform. Consequently, social security programs finances would be improved, hence the growth
of the entire local economy.

Economic security and social justice championing
Rosen as she sat on the Armed forces committee, she pushed for legislation of various bills that
aimed at creating a secure country. She was able to provide tight security in Nevada and protect
her community. She was able to close loopholes and gaps in firearm purchase whereby many
Nevada people owned guns illegally. Nowadays, a background check is performed on gun sales
throughout the US (Siegel et al. 5). Through this, she was able to protect Nevada people and
create a safe Nevada. She has also been able to fight for legislation aimed at strengthening the
military which put the US in a better position to fight terrorist. Her mission and vision as she sits
on the House Armed Services are to equip the US Armed Forces and ensure they have every
advantage in defending the country. This could be possible by modernizing the electric power
grid to protect all the military assets from cyber-attacks. By strengthening the armed forces, it
translates to a more secure country and in even residents of Nevada would be safe to carry out
their daily activities. Through her membership in Subcommittee on Tactical Air and Land
Forces, she has also been able to oversee the national security of the US.
Conclusion
Rosen as a member of the various committees in the Congress, she has been able to bring various
development in Nevada. Her people have acquired good jobs, good health and the education
system has improved. Rosen is a strong feminist who performed great things in Nevada. Even
before she was elected to the Congress, Rosen headed a team that saw the construction of one of
the biggest solar projects in Southern Nevada and Henderson city through a non-profit, private-
public partnership. While in the committees in the Congress, she has majored in ensuring
various fields such as infrastructure, energy, research, technology, security, education, and
energy throughout Nevada and US are improving.
