Brand Strategy
Jamaica introduced the ban on the single use plastics recently given the growing
amount of rise in pollution and the problems of environmental degradation. The
Governmental ban has come into effect after reports suggested that Jamaica was one of the
topmost countries with the highest amount of per capita use of plastic bags. The estimates
were shocking as the different estimates showed that an average Jamaican used around more
than 500 bags per year around. The Government has taken all the different necessary steps in
order to ensure the success of the plan (Critchell et al. 2019). The government of Jamaica has
put in all the weight behind it and has used all the available knowledge to get all the
stakeholders of the organization on board.
The government of Jamaica have formulated a well-planned strategy to address the
different needs of the country. The main objective for the Government in this regards is the
introduction of bio-plastic straws that can be essential for meeting the different needs of the
environment. The strategy of the company have been listed down in a systematic manner to
complete the tasks at a chain basis. This includes;
a. Banning of the plastic straws
b. Only exception of the government will be the use of the plastic straws by the disabled
persons
c. Creation of a taskforce by the government to strictly implement the ban of the single
use straws
d. The manufacturers of bio straws will be encouraged to manufacture such products on
a large scale

e. The Jamaican Government has introduced Oxo-biodegradable plastic through the
Agri and Industrial Packaging Limited of Jamaica which helps them to ensure a
sustainable solution for making the future of Jamaica plastic free
Performance Objectives
The protection of the environment is highly necessary for the sustainability of the
future generations. The presence of the future generations can help in the improvement of the
quality of the environment and also helps the organization to reduce the harm and the
negative effects within the environment. The government must take the necessary steps in
order to ensure the success of the organization in a strong and efficient manner. The
government ban has included the ban on the manufacture, importation and also the
distribution of the different kinds of the plastic bags that are harmful for the nature.
As mentioned earlier, the government of Jamaica has provided all the necessary
support to the individuals to help them in their quest for building up the infrastructure needed
to manufacture the following bio plastic straws. As the economy of the country is heavily
dependent on tourism and agriculture, the government must provide the necessary funding in
order to support the following program.
Supply Chain Model
The supply chain model of the business involves a number of factors or perspectives.
They are as follows;
a. Application of an advanced supply chain software- The Government of Jamaica
has decided to transform the entire supply chain and has thus installed a new supply
chain software that can be able to provide a clear overview of the total supply chain.
The aim of the supply chain software will be to give an estimate of the current

projections and costing of the straws and the raw materials and accordingly
implement the strategy.
b. Informed Decisions- The industries of Jamaica will face different kinds of
challenges. The main challenges to be faced by the organization will include the likes
of the selection and taking informed decisions regarding the decision on the suppliers
and the other perspectives for the easy distribution of the bio plastic straws across the
country.
c. Waste recycling companies- The waste recycling companies of Jamaica will need to
undertake specific measures as their demand will be on a rise from the sudden ban of
the use of straws and single use plastics. The recycling and reuse of the products will
thus be grown as the companies will undertake different measures to ensure business
success.
d. Risk Mitigation- The risk mitigation process of the program needs to be flexible in
nature and can address the issues in logistics and supply chain within a few time. The
installation of the cloud based software can be of great help in these regards.
Cost
The cost of the total programme will be around $500,000. The marketing and
promotional cost will constitute the main part of this total amount. The fund will be required
to;
a. Develop substitute products
b. Develop research and development centres
c. Develop Supply chain
d. Monitor the new plan

products and the absence of a proper planning and its implementation can be termed
as a serious weakness of the organization. The weakness of the plan can limit the
capability.
c. Opportunities- The scope for using the bio plastics and environmental friendly
products helps to increase the sustainability of the country.

d. Threats- The implementation of the plans at a much later period is surely a threat for
the future of the company whereas the absence of proper funding to the company
program is another major threat.
