INTRODUCTION
The term entrepreneur is used for a person who establishes a new business, enjoys
multiple rewards and bears most of uncertainties or risks. In an economy, entrepreneur plays key
role through using their skills, initiatives and traits for anticipating requirements, bringing new
ideas and making change happen (Barba-Sánchez, Arias-Antúnez and Orozco-Barbosa, 2019).
For the assessment of individual critique and critical reflection, selected entrepreneur is James
Dyson who have taken his passion to devise a better vacuum cleaner to stratospheric heights. The
entrepreneur acts as instrument who have played key role in making a substantial change of
producing a device that have changed living standards of society in great manner.
The assessment is prepared in two parts wherein Part A of the tasks covers critique and
evaluation of an entrepreneur by focusing on issues of entrepreneurial traits. Further, Part B
includes self reflection along with evaluation of potential as the change entrepreneurial agent.
PART A
Critique and evaluation of entrepreneur
An entrepreneur sets a venture to take financial or other risks with the hope of earning
huge profits. They are the one who have potential, skill and initiative ideas that are essential for
forecasting potential and prospective needs together with bringing significant changes in the
society. James Dyson is an entrepreneur who have established an entity that is named as Dyson
Limited. The business was started with limited resources. However, James Dyson have
converted the small business of limited products into large business venture of appliances. In the
substantial change, James Dyson contributed widely in building networks with international
organisations, managing people, implementing new technologies and hence forth.
Entrepreneurial traits are delineated to typical characteristics and thought patterns that are
concerned with an entrepreneur (Champenois, Lefebvre and Ronteau, 2020). People who set
their own business have certain number of entrepreneurial traits that makes them successful to
lead a substantial change happen. Through the entrepreneurial traits, entrepreneur such as James
Dyson have achieved success in making change happen in the company in limited duration of
time. Some of the issues of entrepreneurial traits that are concerned with James Dyson are as
reviewed:

Leadership: An entrepreneur is hoped-for managing a venture in most professional
aspect buy taking responsibility for leading as well as inspiring people with effective leadership
style (Shabbir and Muhammad & Kassim, 2019). Trait of leadership in an entrepreneur reflects
on their potentials for leading others and mobilising human resources for attaining common
objectives. In context to James Dyson, the entrepreneur always involved them in finding together
with devising healthy relationships with investors, monitoring organisational operations addition
to overseeing manpower that have driven their motivation for making substantial changes at
workplace and society happen. James Dyson have always approaches situational leadership style
wherein they emphasised on building attitudes and behaviour as per pertaining situations. It have
been critiqued that situational leadership style creates confusion in the business because the
leader might change approaches in constant manner for addressing needs of each team or people
that is a key issue involved within entrepreneurial trait.
Networking: An entrepreneur reaches great heights through the help they achieved from
others across the path of success. Strong professional network helps an individual to achieve
objectives which they have never accomplished of their own. From the networks with
international investors and manufacturers, James Dyson have achieved success in bringing
substantial changes in the venture. James had strong networking abilities that guided in taking
the company at multinational level and strengthening business communication. However, from
the views of (Gurayah, 2021), it is critiqued that personal communication styles along with the
ways an entrepreneur collaborate generally creates issues in networking.
Locus of control: It is a trait among entrepreneur that defines the ways they believe
strongly or have control on circumstances and situations which impacts drastically on their
livings. In case with James Dyson, the person have high locus of control that helped them in
making substantial change arise by feeling comfortable in unstructured circumstance. James
Dyson have a belief that organisational success or failure depends on their own practices or
actions. It is also believed that results of substantial change are determined from essential
choices that are devised by them.
Other than traits, there are certain characteristics of an entrepreneur that makes them
successful in implementing activities that results in substantial change happen. In relevance to
James Dyson, entrepreneurial characteristics have helped the personality to gain success in
implementing change of technologies in manufacturing of variants of household appliances

including vacuum cleaners and many more. In this context, characteristics of James Dyson that
are defined by Buchanan and Boddy are as follows:
Flexibility: It is all about having ability for adapting change as well as solving issues as
they occur. James Dyson have entrepreneurial characteristic of flexibility that makes them
receptive towards needs, opinions, thoughts and ideas of ideas. With this characteristics, James
Dyson have tap into creative instincts for searching aspects for business growth as well as
exploiting opportunities to create positive changes.
Delegation: It is related to shifting authority along with responsibility for specific
activities or functions from an individual to other (Purcell and Chahine, 2019). James Dyson
have delegated certain authorities to key people of the company that helped them to concentrate
their time on other important practices of venture. This assisted them to handle various important
tasks and enhance efficiency to implement change for expansion of product line of the enterprise.
Priority and outcome focused: For making substantial change happen, it is important
for an entrepreneur to tie particular priorities for overall goals of entity. James Dyson is
characterised as an entrepreneur that focuses towards priorities and results. In making changes
occur in Dyson Limited, there are certain win battles which determines success of the venture
and motivated the entrepreneur for emphasising more on improving business performance within
the competitive marketplace. It have streamlined decision framing addition to devising clear
image about the ways to bring necessary changes.
Apart from above stated traits and characteristics, a discussion about the main challenges,
obstacles or resistance that an entrepreneur encounter could also be made. As in context with the
James Dyson the main obstacles and challenges which were encountered by him are provided
and evaluated as below:
Financial Issues- it is one of the most common issue and challenge which is encountered
by a change agent and entrepreneur as all new innovation and creativity requires an initial
investment to meet out the expenses. Thus, the issue and difficult is encountered by James Dyson
while creating and common up with a more efficient vacuum cleaner, which works on the
principle of cyclonic separation as some starting investment is needed to finance that product.
Social Rejection- The another vital obstacle that is mainly encountered by a change agent
is social rejection as it is the tendency of our society to reject a new change in its starting stage as
they are not sure for its use and implications (Haile, 2021). Thus, social rejection and convincing

community in favour of a new change and product is the biggest issues faced by James Dyson in
starting of his entrepreneur phase as he is coming with a new idea and more efficient bagless
vacuum cleaner.
Hiring Employees for the First Time- It is also a challenge commonly faced by an
entrepreneur as in starting face of a company it is quite challenging to come up with a systematic
process for identifying, recruiting, and training the right talent. It is most important for any new
change and success of business idea to have a skill and highly competent workforce. Thus, hiring
suitable employees is also a big challenge faced by James Dyson to have and ensure the right
combination of skill, ability, and attitude for success of its company Dyson Limited.
Dealing with Stress and Self-Doubt- The another major set off and challenge that is
encountered and faced by an entrepreneur consists of dealing with thee own stress and self doubt
which are faced during coming with a new project or business idea. It has been observed that,
business bring many satisfying moments for James Dyson anxiety, stress and self-doubt are also
faced in in the process of being a change agent and entrepreneur. Stress can sometimes cause
discouragement thus James Dyson take effective steps to minimize stress by the way of regular
exercise and meditation (Romero, 2021).
Thus, on the basis of above discussion it can be analysed that a change agent also needs
to be a good entrepreneurial leader to motivate and influence society and consumer towards
making use of improved and more efficient products. Apart from this, various leadership
qualities are also needed such as creativity and innovation to continuously come up with
improved ideas and better change. Apart from this, having a clear vison is also vital for change
agent to ensure self-confidence and boost morale for better results. Apart from this, team
building and communication skills are also vital and essentially needed for an entrepreneur to
ensure effective collaboration among its employees along with effectively guiding and
motivating other for better accomplishment and achievement of set goals and desired change.
PART B
Reflective report
The GET test is used to defines an enterprising tendency within an individual as the
tendency to start up and manage projects which tends to require a highly enterprising people do
in a more innovative way. The GET test performed by me is lead to an effective self-assessment

test that aims and focuses to give me a better idea about my enterprising potential. A discussion
about the GET test given by me is provided below which is reflecting my key strengths and
weakness to become an efficient entrepreneur and change agent with steps to enhance and
develop my needed skills and competencies.
It has been observed that I get a test score of 74% which suggests that I have the key
strengths in some context associated with becoming a good entrepreneur. I have good need for
achievements as an entrepreneur and change agent as have a positive orientation towards the
future along with having reliance on my own ability. Beside this, I have an optimistic rather than
a pessimistic outlook along with string task orientation and effective time management which are
my key strength to become a successful entrepreneur in future. Goal–orientated, setting
challenging but realistic goals and willingness to work long and hard when necessary to
complete tasks are also my key strengths along with imaginative, inventive or innovative
tendency to come up with new ideas. Further, I have a medium risk taking score along with
efficient locus of control which ensures opportunistic, self-confident, proactive and determined
as my key strength. Further, it has been also observed through my GET test that I have a low
autonomy which is analysed as my weakness thus, I need to focus on my team management
skills and communication skills to maintain a positive relationship with other individuals which
is vital to bring change and become successful entrepreneur.
CONCLUSION
On the basis of above project, a conclusion can be made that entrepreneur require some key
skills and competencies to effectively bring a change and make a business idea more successful.
These vital skills and characteristics which are required in a change agent and entrepreneur
consist of leadership skills, effective networking, locus of control along with creativity and
innovation skills. Further, some challenges related with lack of finance and social rejection is
also faced by an entrepreneur. At last, a conclusion can be made that GET test ensures and
defines an enterprising tendency within an individual as the tendency to start up and manage
projects.
