What is the meaning of the term educated? Is it specificity about the learning of the book
or does the process of learning is about opening up minds rather than the simple collection of
information. The author Tara Westover in her memoir has spoken about the journey she has
travelled from ignorance to the knowledge (Westover 2018). The main focus of the book is about
the transition from the self-loathing to the self-love. Education is a memoir which explores the
tribulations and the triumphs of the unique life of the author
The American author in the book covers many socially relevant themes, for instance,
education, family, love, suffering and faith in the search for happiness. The tone of the book is
inspirational as the book goes on inspiring people to come out of their hardships and face the
world to emerge victoriously (Westover 2018). And the main message or the main purpose of the
memoir id giving out the message that education is not just about formal education. The author
narrates the life story and has delved into her childhood and through the book has tried to
communicate that people should be treated with love and kindness even if the same feeling is not

adversity. Just looking at the struggle of the author, it is pretty much evident how she has
struggled all through her life and. She was indebted in poverty and was destined to be at the
bottom rung of the society’s leader (Westover 2018). The author has been woefully ignorant, and
she has never heard of the term ‘Holocaust’ she further thought that Europe was a country, and
the writing style was oddly formal yet silted. Her book seems to be inspired by the only reading
material that is known to her, which is Bible, speeches of the Brigham Young and the Book of
Mormon.
As the book documents the experience of the author right from the childhood, the
memoir is pretty much filled up with the character from her father to mother and more (Westover
2018). The book seems to be good for anyone who has gone through the abuse may be mental
illness. However, apart from this the seems to be suitable for a wide range of audience as it
contains diverse topics.
Therefore it can be said that the book is the testament of the strength of the women and
her determination to the rebel against the constraint of her upbringing which breaks out to the
isolated world and has expanded her knowledge and has transformed her. It took her to both on
the physical journey in order to gain education and psychological journey of the self-discovery.
