Introduction
Developing a website involves a systematic development process which follows an acceptable
industry frameworks, methodologies, languages, and modelling tools. The development process
involves a standard software development life cycle which follows specific steps to ensure that
the development team is on track while paying attention to quality control, budget, and timeline.
The website, just like any other software, can be developed using concrete methods that allows
the development team to develop the website in a systematic manner (Bowlby, 2018). This
document will focus on the development process that the development team followed while
developing a website for the Kids Palace enterprise which is a company that deals with kid’s
wearables and toys.
Requirement Analysis
The first step undertaken in the development of the Kids Palace website is to understand the
business requirements and the different dynamics associated with the existing business
processes. This process will cover all the factors concerning the business operations and how the
website is going to address the business needs. The most essential aspect in this step is to identify
the target audience that is, the primary users of the system, then all the available data, software,
hardware, and people should be assessed carefully. This process is very crucial because it will
determine how the final product will look like depending on the requirements that have been
collected and analyzed. The analysts should engage all the stakeholders in order to come up with
a comprehensive business requirement document with a realistic plan. This can be achieved by
employing the different data collection techniques such as conducting and interview with the
client or issuing questionnaires to the target audience. The final product of this step is a
requirements specification document, work plan, estimated budget and timeline, and final
approval from the client to proceed with the project.
Planning
This is the second phase in the website development process where the development team where
the preliminary requirements are analyzed critically to determine if it is feasible. Since this is a
website, then all the site modules including dynamic sections, navigation, and general site layout
should be included in the plan. Further consultations were done by the development team
concerning any additional hardware and business requirements (Eva, 2018). A written proposal

was written to the client after the review and approval of the preliminary requirements detailing
the project scope which include costs, timelines, and roles of every team member.
Design
In this phase, the website navigations and layout are designed as a prototype after receiving a
signed approval from the client. This involves coming up with mockups and wireframes on paper
to show how the website will look like and function once developed. Additionally, the designer
submitted three designs of the website to the customer for approval with different layouts and
navigation designs. From this, the designer will be able to know the design preferences and
developed a website that suites the client need (Gordiyenko, 2015). Additionally, the
development team encouraged the customer to provide their feedback and responses regarding
the proposed design.
Content Writing
This is a very important stage in the website development process because it involves coming up
with the content to be included in the websites such as graphics, texts, videos and how they
should be displayed on the website. The company sort external professional to develop the
content on behalf of the business. The content should be brief clear and understandable. It should
not have any grammatical errors for the case of text content, and for the case of videos and
graphics they should be appropriate and unambiguous (Meazey, 2017).
Coding
This is the stage where the programmer was actively involved in converting the designs and
content to an actual website through coding. The code should not affect the look and feel of the
user interfaces or the overall website. The programmer continuously engaged the designer in
order to have a better understanding of the design. The programmer employed the use of HTML5
and CSS programming tools to develop the website. This is because they provide effective
development features such as responsiveness. The development tool is Dreamweaver.
Testing
After the development, an intensive testing was carried out because it functions as a multi-user
system with limitations of bandwidth. Some of the tests that were carried out include stress
testing, load testing, cross-browser compatibility testing, integration testing, manual testing, and

scalability testing (Meazey, 2017). Stress testing was conducted to ensure that the website can
accommodate heavy traffic from the users. Load testing is carried out to ensure that the website
was able to load all the functions and allow users to carry out their functions. Integration testing
was carried out to ascertain if the website is able to integrate with the existing system. Scalability
testing was done to test if the website can accommodate future enhancement to include any
additional requirements that may arose.
Maintenance and updating
After the website had been developed, tested, and hosted, it is important to ensure continuous
maintenance and updating content regularly to ensure the users and customers are updated on the
new products (Eva, 2018). Some of the maintenance operations that will be carried out include
content management and updating, technical maintenance, staff training, and site visit activity
reports should be done on a regular basis.
Conclusion
Websites are very important to any business because it give the business a platform to engage
with its customers. However, while developing a website it is important to follow the software
development steps including requirements gathering, planning, design, content development,
coding, testing, and maintenance and updating. By doing so, a successful project will be attained.
