Methods to Support Student Learning and Success at King VII College

This report presents an applied research study conducted at King Edward VII College, focusing on methods to support student learning and ensure their long-term success. The research employed a mixed-methods approach, including qualitative and quantitative data collection through questionnaires administered to a sample of 50 students. The study investigated the perceived importance of learning for career growth, the significance of different learning methods, and the impact of the learning environment on student performance. Key findings reveal that students believe learning plays a major role in career advancement, with personal development seminars and active learning being highly valued. The research also identifies challenges faced by students, such as inappropriate guidance, and suggests approaches like regular performance evaluations and improved learning environments to enhance student outcomes. The thematic analysis of the data highlights the importance of student interest, learning environment, and practical knowledge in fostering effective learning. The report concludes with recommendations for further research to refine and improve student support strategies at the college. This study is part of the supporting assessment resources for Assessment Task 2 of BSBRES801.

Summary
With the help of gathered information it can be summarised that old policies and
practices related with learning is not good in this current age of rapid cultural, social,
environmental and economic changes that are taking place globally. Therefore, it remain crucial
for King ...VII college to improve its quality of services and try to make its workforce to remain
adaptive, responsive or diverse so that it keep up with the technology so that best possible
learning can be provided to students (McKnight and et. al., 2016). This is so because potential
students make up their decision by firstly evaluating the reputation of institute, quality of
courses, employment options, pricing and personal recommendations among other factors (Chiu
and Cheng, 2017).
Methods
For performing this study following tools and techniques has been taken into
consideration,
 Type of Investigation:- The investigation is mainly performed with the help of two
methods such as qualitative and quantitative methods. Among them qualitative
investigation will be used as it help in gathering the information by considering
qualitative facts that make it easier to explain the information by considering theories and
concepts.
 Research approach :- In order to perform investigation two kind of approaches are
mainly used such as inductive and deductive. For this study inductive approach will be
used as consider theoretical framework to present things in more understanding manner
and also support in determining mainly issue behind particular phenomenon.
 Research philosophy :- An investigation is based on research philosophy used for a
particular study such as interpretivism and positivism. From these two, interpretivism
philosophy is used for this study which make it easier for determining the view point of
people so that information can be presented in effective manner.

 Research design :- For performing applied research two type of research design can be
used such as descriptive and exploratory. From these descriptive research design is used
as it help in making proper identification of a particular phenomenon and its impact.
 Sources of data :- For gathering information two sources are used such as primary and
secondary. For determining the areas to be improve for learning primary study is taken
into consideration as it help in gathering fresh information as per the current situation.
Hence for gathering primary information questionnaire will be used where information
will be gathered from 50 students as a sample size that get selected using probablistic
approach.
Results
For analysing the gathered and recorded data, thematic analysis will be taken into
consideration as it help in presenting a theme for each question in the form of short summary that
help in providing reader an idea regarding the direction toward which information is moving so
that they can develop understanding regarding it (Lee, Longhurst and Campbell, 2017). The
result of information gathered is mentioned below:

Interpretation : From the above mentioned information it has been identified that the 40
out of 50 respondents said yes as they think students learning plays a significant role in career
growth. But 10 respondents said no as they think experience support in career growth. From this
it has been interpreted that the student learning plays a significant role in career growth as it help
in creating a base in term of skills and capability that student can further use to perform well in
their job so that they become successful in their career path.
Theme 2: The importance of learning for students

Interpretation : By performing study over the importance of learning for students it has
been identified that 15 out of 50 respondents said that learning provide an opportunity to skills
and capability development. But on the other side 15 respondents said that learning support in
enhancing their knowledge, while 20 respondents said that it help in promoting career growth.
From this it has been identified that the majority of people are in favour of promoting career
growth as learning support students in determining their area of expertise where they can

perform well. This further contribute toward supporting the students in moving toward right
direction for their career which ensure growth and success in future.
Theme 3: Methods used by an institute for supporting students in their learning
Q3. What are several methods that can be used by an institute for
supporting students in their learning?

Interpretation : From the investigation performed it has been interpreted that 20 out of
50 respondents said that by encouraging active learning, institutes can provide their students with
better learning. But on the other side 15 respondents said that by providing study material
students learning can be promoted, while 15 said building up practice time would be best method
to develop student learning. From this it has been concluded that the majority of people are in
favour that active learning would be best method as by providing practical knowledge along with
theoretical one then it become quite easier to develop effective learning among students.

Interpretation : By performing investigation about the attributes required for enhancing
the student learning it has been identified that 15 out of 50 respondents said that student interest
is that major factor that is to be consider for enhancing student learning. But on the other side, 20
respondents said that learning environment is the major attribute to be consider, while 15 said
using prompts must be consider for enhancing student learning. From this it has been concluded

that the majority of people are in favour of learning environment as a crucial attribute to be
consider for enhancing student learning. As by improving the environment and making it
according to the educational practices it become easier for the an organisation to enhance student
learning by developing interest toward learning among them.

Interpretation : By performing study over the impact of student learning on their
performance it has been identified that the 30 out of 50 respondents said that student's learning
bring positive influence over the enhancing performance. Despite of this 10 respondents said that
learning bring negative influence, but 10 respondents said that student learning have neutral
impact. By evaluating the data it has been identified that the majority of people are in favour of
positive influence, as learning support in developing the knowledge and understanding regarding
a particular area in which they can develop their career.

Interpretation : Institutions plays a significant role in providing better career growth as
well as opportunity to students by make them aware about particular role that they perform in
order to develop their career. By performing investigation over this it has been identified that 15
out of 50 respondents said that institutions provide guidance to their students which support in
better career growth. While on the other hand 10 respondents said that institution can keep their
students connect through email even after they leftover college, for providing them information
regarding career path to choose. Despite of all this 25 respondents said that personal
development seminar would be more helpful in providing better career growth and opportunity
to student by counselling them over making better choice on career. Hence from interpretation it
has been identified that the majority of people are in favour of personal development seminar as
it support in developing and preparing the students for future opportunity so that they become
able to choose best career path and achieve success over it.
Theme 7: Challenges faced by students at the time of learning in institute

Interpretation : There are number of challenges that a student mainly faces at the time
of their learning throughout their institute life duration. By performing study over this it has been
identified that 25 out of 50 students said that inappropriate guidance is the major challenge as it
put down whole career of a student at risk. While on the other side 10 respondents said that
negative environment is major challenge as students fail to grow. But despite of this 15
respondents said that lack of study material is the major challenge that students mainly faces at
the time of their learning throughout the institution. From this it has been identified that the
majority of people said that inappropriate guidance is a biggest challenge to the students at the
time of their learning as it directly affect the way student prepare themselves for their career and
future pathway.

Theme 8: Approaches adopted by institute for provide better learning to students

Interpretation : From the above mentioned information it can be interpret that 15 out of
50 respondents said that lecture with electrical equipment support educational institutes in
providing better learning to the students. But on the other side 15 respondents said that by
providing practical knowledge institutes would be able to provide better learning to students.
Despite of this 20 respondents said that regular performance evaluation would be more helpful
method that support in enhancing the learning of students. By performing evaluation of data it
has been identified that the majority of people are in favour of regular performance evaluation as
it help in determining how well students are performing and area where they require
improvement to enhance the learning of students.
Impact
The current research finding is all about the area of improvement that King ...VII college
must consider for improving its learning practices. Therefore this research findings will support
in presenting organisation regarding the changes it require to made for current learning practices.
This in turn required King ..VII college to make changes to their organisational policies and
procedures accordingly. This includes, it must focuses toward adding some electric equipments
or Information Communication Tools (ICT) in order to deliver the lectures in best possible
manner. In addition to this it must also includes some extra practices related with the student
learning to develop the practical knowledge (Sumuer, 2018). Therefore, in order to implement
these practices King ...VII college must focuses toward formulating effective policies and
practices so that it can be performed appropriately as per planned.

Accuracy
For performing this investigation, data is gathered with the help of questionnaire that ask
respondents to provide their view regarding some specified set of options that ensures accuracy
of data as all the responses revolve around some set criteria which doesn't any kind of data
manipulation practices (Kumar, 2019). In addition to this for ensuring the accuracy of data, all
ethical and legal factors related with an investigation is taken into consideration such as informed
consent, confidentiality, anonymity etc. Hence the data provided with this study is more accurate
and reliable.
Relevance
With the help of this study it has been analysed that The King ...VII college must focuses
toward encouraging active learning, provide study material and arrange practices time for
students which support in providing better learning to students (Green, Camilli and Elmore,
2012). Additionally it also help in determining the attributes to be consider while enhancing
student learning such as interest area of students, developing effective learning environment and
using prompts to effectively deliver the knowledge and understanding. Hence, it can be said that
strategy used for applied research is helpful as it help in gathering basic information in term of
changing current practices of organisation for making learning practices improved as per future
requirement (Mackenzie and et. al., 2012).
In order to gather information for this study, questionnaire is used as per applied research
strategy which is relevant for this study as it support in gathering information over specific set of
area specified with the questionnaire (Gioia, Corley and Hamilton, 2013). This support in
determining the most favourable factor to be consider for brining improvement over current
learning system.
Further research
The current investigation focuses over the tools, approaches and methods to be add into
current education system in order to enhance the quality of learning so that the students would be
able to develop a better career. But this research is not about categorising the approaches as per
particular field of study as each course holds up different requirement which need to be address
separately (Flick, 2015). Hence, for further study this research gap would be consider in future

that support in providing best possible outcome toward enhancing the education system of an
institute.
