Report
AI Summary
This report provides an analysis of the implementation of knowledge management (KM) at a global company, referred to as Alpha. The report examines the failures of KM implementation across five distinct stages: Advocate and Learn, Develop Strategy, Design and Launch KM Initiatives, Expand and Support Initiatives, and Institutionalize Knowledge Management. It highlights key issues such as over-reliance on IT systems, the importance of tacit knowledge, ineffective strategies, ballooning costs, and the impact of external vendors. The analysis delves into how poor translation of design, lack of proper strategies, and the perception of IT initiatives as invasions of territory contributed to the project's ultimate failure. The report concludes by emphasizing the need for proper action after the implementation of technological advancements to institutionalize knowledge management effectively. Key references include works by Hislop, Bosua, and Helms (2018), Santoro, Vrontis, and Dezi (2018), and Gunjal (2019).

TASK 1
1. Views on implementation of knowledge management at global company based on five distinct
stage.
The failure of implementation of knowledge defined in following manner as are-
Stage 1: Advocate and learn
The Alpha was designed to gain and maintain global order handling market leadership.
At the time of implementation of KM there was over reliance on the IT System to manage
knowledge in Alpha (Hislop, Bosua and Helms, 2018). However, tacit knowledge and
behavioural issues was the main reason of insufficient attention. Therefore, the individuals were
not having proper knowledge and this system functionalities.
Stage 2: Develop strategy
The ineffective strategy leads to hamper the working of the enterprise. To have proper
functioning of KM project, the one of alpha priorities has to built the network of knowledge
enabled worktables to have customer the customized access to Alpha knowledge base. Due to
teething problem of use of techniques and poor translation of design has largely affected the
system functionalities. Lack of proper strategy leads to could not complete first worktable for
the sales functions (Santoro, Vrontis and Dezi, 2018). Therefore, this system has affected the all
other key areas in huge aspect. Furthermore, ineffective strategy has affected the all over
working and system get affected.
Stage 3: Design and launch KM initiatives
With the time, the cost to sustain Knowledge management initiatives ballooned gone
beyond control. In order to cure with it, the team also engaged a vendor to develop an intranet
system as one of the quick alternative. Thus, intranet get also treated with scepticism from rest of
the functions. Thus, it can be stated that Alpha was one of the comprehensive attempt to manage
the order handling line of the business at the globe level. However, this move that perceived by
the IT team worked as an invasion into its territory. Therefore, it has underpinned the all
practices within the enterprise.
Stage 4: Expand and support initiatives
IT team has taken various initiatives to support Knowledge management project
initiation. Therefore, the whole team engaged to develop an intranet system as quick alternatives
to make the content available. Therefore, one more reason of failure is that there were lot of

external firms were engaged at differ stages of Alpha's development. After, the failure of
development of IT team as an invasion into the territory. It has affected the working of the
enterprise in greater aspect. Therefore, new innovation has affected the overall viability of the
business.
Stage 5: Institutionalize knowledge management
With the year end, the viability of worktable was in doubt and the high dependence and
unsustainable expenditure on the external IT resources. Therefore, it perceived to be losing
control over the IT related projects. Additionally, this can be stated that management has
curtailed the overall worktable project and disbanded the completely after eventually lost of faith
in knowledge (Gunjal, 2019.). Henceforth, over reliance on the system of IT aids to manage the
knowledge in Alpha. After the implementation of new technological advancement, the proper
action needs to be taken to institutionalize knowledge management.
