Case Study
AI Summary
This case study examines the problem identification process within Konica Minolta Business Solutions (HK) Ltd., focusing on Robert Ip's initiative to address the lack of digitization and the abundance of “hidden youth” in Hong Kong. Ip aimed to create a BPO venture that combined social and commercial motives, providing employment opportunities for young individuals. The core problem identified is the absence of career orientation programs for these youth, leading to a lack of balanced perspectives on economic and non-economic factors and poor organizational skills. The recommended solution involves self-awareness camps and workshops to enhance self-esteem and develop leadership qualities. The analysis emphasizes the importance of integrating social responsibility into business frameworks for inclusive development, suggesting commercial initiatives to support marginalized sections of society rather than solely relying on NGOs. The paper concludes that social and commercial values can be mutually beneficial, requiring participation from all stakeholders for comprehensive development.

Running head: PROBLEM IDENTIFICATION OF BUSINESS ENTERPRISE
Introduction
Robert Ip became the managing director of Konica Minolta Business Solution in 2016
(Au, et al., 2019). The merging of social and commercial motive intrigued him for two
reasons: one because the business environment of Hong Kong lacked digitization and second
there were abundance of hidden youth present in city. Thus, he thought of opening up a new
venture of BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) that would incorporate both the social
problem and the business motive. Youth lacked proper orientation.
Problem identification
New ventures as BPO provides employment opportunity for the bulk of young
individuals but the importance of working in such enterprises must also be cultivated. The
problem lies in the fact that there has been no career orientation programme for the “hidden
youth”. Thus, they lack balanced approach to both economic and non-economic factors of life
and are poor in organizational skills. Just taking the help from the NGOs will not help
because the problem that arises in the grass root level has not yet been addressed.
Recommendation
Proper self-awareness camps and workshops with the local community should be arranged
(Lund, 2016). By these programme individual can become more aware of their merits and
demerits. They can also recognise their weakness and can eventually transform these qualities
of fear and doubtfulness. In doing so they can also increase their level of confidence and self-
esteem. In this way the foundation gets laid where leadership qualities or skills related to the
business enterprises can be developed.

Evaluation
A commercial unit cannot survive by disconnecting itself from its context. Robert Ip
has tried to incorporate the social problem in the business framework. Thus, he attempts to
have an inclusive development where every individual receives equal chance of participation.
However rather depending on the NGOs it is high time that commercial initiatives are taken
to voice the marginalised section of the society.
Conclusion
This paper tends to conclude that social and commercial values can be combined in a
mutual way. Development cannot happen discreetly and for an inclusive development,
participation from every end is appreciated.
