This essay intends to discuss the impact of Korean culture, religion, technology and
governance on Japan. The flourishing Korean culture in Japan and what factors contributed
towards the growth. The religious factors that grew because of the religious similarities that
they had in each other. The cultural exchange between the two countries and their impacts on
the governing policies and the daily practices that were affected due to the free movement of
individuals of both the countries.
Korea and Japan: The impact on culture, religion, technology and governance
Korea had a huge impact on the culture, religion, technology and governance of
Japan. Korea was considered as the main connection between the land of Japan and China
which had lasting effects on various aspects of the country. The culture of Japan was
influenced due to the free movement of the people of Korea (Kim and Choe 2014). Buddhism
was the main religion of both the countries that provided that there were religious ties
between both the countries. The religions that are prevalent in Japan consist of Buddhism,
Shinto and some sects belonging to the Christianity. Buddhism was the religion that was
followed in both the countries which constituted that both the countries have religious unity
and the views that they share are similar to each other (Harding, Fumiaki and Shin’ichi
2014). The culture of Japan was largely influenced by Korean people started to bring their
cultures with them while migrating (Kim and Fouser 2016). The Korean technique of rice
farming gradually found advent in Japanese culture. The people who migrated to the land of
Japan brought with them the cultural values and different techniques of pottery, tool making
and architecture. The invention of helmets, spears and swords made of iron were the
contribution of Korea to the culture of Japan. The centralization of government in Japan is the
contribution of Korea to Japan. The Korean governance style of having one government at
the central level that controls the whole state was included in the governing style of Korea.
New techniques of tax and governance at local level was also done. Many legal reforms were

done in the Japanese regime due to the influence of Korea. The Koreans brought with them
the art of making tools from iron. The technique of mining was also the contribution of Korea
to Japan. The new tools included chisels, saws, axes and hoes. The technique of reusing and
developing the iron that was available was practiced and furnaces were developed to serve
the purpose. The new tools helped in the improvement of farming techniques which yielded
better results for the country. Dams were built using the concept of U shaped hoes that was
the technique introduced by the Koreans in tool making. Proficient people who were from the
Korean land were sent to Japan to help in building ships for the country. Korea held a
superior position in the building ships in the Asian area.
Thus, it can be determined from the above discussion that Korea helped the Japanese
in flourishing. Korea holds a special place when the areas of culture, religion, technology and
governance are brought into focus.
