Role of KPI in the development of a leadership style for agile organizations
Under the present circumstance, the norms of effective leadership are changing drastically.
Conventional leadership traits like intelligence, self-confidence, integration, determination, and
sociability are finding new manifestations under a complex scenario. Many rating surveys are
available to check the score for these leadership traits.
Based on the results of the tools like “North Star Survey”, a prospective leader like me can
always keep a check on scores of above five traits and treat them as a Key Performance Indicator
in the development of a leadership style. The organizations of the future define sociability as an
ability to strike partnership with co-workers. Self-confidence is more about developing a creative
personality rather than a reactive personality. Determination has referred to a disciplined
approach towards the goal and the acts and intelligence demand an out of the box thinking to
accommodate new ideas.
According to me the cumulative disposal of these transformed leadership traits can be developed
into a leadership style that dictates the terms of “leading by an example.” As a leader
procurement of a personality to become a role model can be the best way to survive in an
organization while meeting the leadership goals. The above mentioned transformed traits and
their key performance indicators can guide a leader to update and upgrade his methods in
accordance with the needs of an agile market (Schrage, 2018). This study of my own rating on
various leadership survey gave me an idea that I can pursue “ lead by example” type of
leadership very effectively.

Until a few years the requirements of leadership was more inclined towards upholding a “steady
nature.” However under the present market conditions a successful leadership style demands
more dynamism with the market conditions and other factors. According to me the leadership
styles of “leading by setting an example” demands a leader to adapt to new conditions very
quickly and set an example for the followers to execute. At the turn of the century, leadership
was a managerial trait, it was a specialized job, and however, under the present conditions, when
I am pursuing leadership, a thorough knowledge of the methods and core processes is required to
support a swift decision-making system.
I always admire the example set by the leadership style of Brittany Packnett can be poignant
here, her organization “National community alliances, Teach for America” transformed the
methods of teaching by introducing “high needs, high poverty schools.” She used her sociability
skills to transform existing workers of “poverty-driven education sector” to adopt new methods.
She set an example of a new type of school where racial discrimination was at the lowest levels
and the quality of the education was far better and more inclined towards the employability of
the students in accordance with their deprived status in the society (7 Inspiring Female Nonprofit
Leaders to Watch in 2018, 2018).
I am inspired with her determination to change the landscape of the existing schools, this
determination paid well because she followed a disciplined approach, in the similar fashion her
integration of new methods to solve an old problem also paid well. The example set by her has
now become a model of reform. More “high needs high poverty schools” are coming in an
existence. She employed her intelligence develop an organization which is now developing an
“out of the box idea” into regular practice in the scene of “American education sector for the
underprivileged sector.”
