Research Topic-Lack of Human Rights in Egypt
Human rights are often regarded as the moral principles that fully describe some certain
level standards of the ultimate human behavior and are usually regulated and protected by the
law (Haggard & Kaufman, 2018 p.31).These rights are inherently entitled to all persons
regardless of their background just from the fact that they are human.
Human beings should not be deprived of their rights no matter what the circumstances.
Egypt is a democratic country and each and every person’s rights in this great country should be
respected. This has not been the case for a number of years now. Human rights have been
neglected by various individuals, associations and even the government itself (Tadros, 2013
p.99).Egypt has with time witnessed human rights issues some of which included mass unlawful
killings. Major terrorist attacks have been happening in various regions in Egypt and to make
matters worse there are reports and circumstantial evidence has been provided linking the
government and some government agents into these killings (Trager, 2011 p.67). As we all
know, human beings have the right to life. No one should take away this right not even the
individuals. These killings and murders that have been happening in Egypt indicate that human
rights are not being respected and honored as they should be.
Apart from the numerous killings happening in Egypt, some cases of torture, disappearances’
and extremely harsh conditions have been induced to persons believed to be against the law.
Arbitrary arrest and detention has also been witnessed.
There have also been cases of the freedom of expression, people in Egypt cannot express
themselves and thoughts they have, restrictions have been imposed to the press limiting their
freedom of freely airing any relevant information to the public. Academic freedom has also been

another aspect of the human rights that has been ignored in Egypt. Literally the government of
Egypt has been constantly accused of punishing and prosecution of persons who have been
allegedly accused to conducting abuses on various people even without investigating the matters.
This is against fundamental human rights (Mayer, 2012 p.109).
Well, these are just but a few aspects in regard to the human rights violation in Egypt and the
extent it has reached. As a matter of fact, it’s like human rights in Egypt do not exist at all.
Research Question-How has Lack of Human Rights in Egypt generated conflict
Conflicts have been witnessed in various regions of Egypt as various human rights
activists and citizens went into the streets to demonstrate against the issues of not respecting
human rights that had been going on in Egypt of a considerable amount of time. These conflicts
have been severe as various human rights activists were banned from even leaving the country.
Demonstrations in the streets of Cairo had been so rampant accompanied by mass destruction of
public property. Human rights activists and citizens felt that enough is enough and they had to be
heard and the only way they could possible do that was to get in the streets as the other legal
ways were impossible due to the fact that human rights were being disrespected. It was during
this era of revolution that various human rights organizations were established.
Egypt as a country experienced a time of prolonged protests and conflicts that saw to it
the fall of the then long serving President Hosni Mubarak (Shelton, 2015 p.207).The lack of
human rights contributed to a great amount towards these conflicts and wrangles that happened
in Egypt. Sources indicate that there was some sort of control by the military over the judiciary
and the judicial systems in Egypt, well as we all know, the judiciary is an independent body and
it should work alone, but this was not the case in Egypt. Military trails and trials on human rights

activist increased at a very high rate and resulted in the civil unrest and wrangles in Egypt. The
government cared less about the rights of the Egyptian people, it focused more on civil
prosecution and forgot on what really mattered which was to protect the interest of the Egyptian
people. This really raised a concern among various human rights institutions In Egypt and they
felt that indeed something needs to be done. These upheavals and constant wrangles increased
day in day out as the rights of the people of Egypt were being disrespected. In any country, the
constitution clearly has to protect the rights of its citizens but this was not the case in Egypt.
