1LANGUAGE AND GENDER INEQUALITIES
Language is considered to be one of the most important features of the human lives. It
is with the help of language that humans communicate with each other on various subject
matters. However, in the modern world, it is seen that individuals are using certain types of
languages which are targeted at certain categories of people. It is because of such languages
that gender inequalities has been increasing in the world in the present times. The aim is to
find why such languages cause gender inequalities.
The purpose of this essay is to determine how language plays an important role
in establishing and maintaining gender inequalities among the human beings.
It is being said that language is one of the most important reasons behind causing
gender inequalities in the world itself. Nowadays, it is often found that humans would often
use certain languages, which are aimed at the opposite gender or towards a certain group of
people as stereotypes (Richardson, 2014). For e.g. – men usually likes to call women by
certain languages for their country of origin or for their ethnicity. The major cause for this is
to make the females feel inferior as they are from a different culture. Sometimes, languages
used by humans might become extreme which in that case might amount to racism (Coates,
2015).
Thus, from the above discussion, it can be clearly stated that language is one of the
main factors in causing gender inequalities in the world. Such languages must be checked and
controlled so that the increasing rate of gender inequalities in the world can be put to check
and it can be prevented so that the people can live happily and peacefully with each other in
the society.
