Final Research Paper: Law Enforcement Topics

This is a final research paper assignment focusing on three controversial topics within the legal system: the use of body cameras by police officers, life sentencing for juveniles, and the use of private prisons. The paper requires a minimum of 9 pages, with each topic being discussed in a minimum of 3 pages. Students must present arguments for or against each topic, using at least 3 professional sources per topic, cited in APA style. The paper also includes a cover page, abstract, and reference page. (Inmates in state prisons can use § 1983 to sue and collect damages from prison
employees who have violated their constitutional rights. These employees are
“near[ly ]universal[ly]” indemnified by their employer, so these lawsuits are
against the government in all but name, with an overlay of individual defenses
like qualified immunity. Private prisons work just like public ones as far as § 1983
liability is concerned, except that private prison employees lack qualified
immunity—so private prison inmates even (at least in this respect) get more

favorable treatment by federal courts.

Each section must be a minimum of 3 pages in length and cite at least 3 sources
using APA writing style, size 12, double spaced, Times New Roman font, and 1”
margins.
 Each component must clearly have a
Title at the top of the first page, identifying the topic that it covers.
The paper should consist of a Cover Page, Abstract (stating the 3
components you discuss in your paper, no more than 125 words total),
body (9 pages minimum; 3 pages per topic), and a
References Page (including 9 minimum, including 3 per topic).
 The Cover, Abstract, and Reference pages do not count toward your total page
requirement of 3 per topic.
 The references must be clearly cited in your work and in the references page.
All references must be professional (Legal Statues, Police Department
Policies, etc.), Peer Reviewed Journal Articles, or Books (may include
your textbook).
 DO NOT use Wikipedia as one of your references, that will result in a failing
grade of the assignment!! If you have any doubt about your references, ask me
(via email, phone, in-person, during office hours, etc.).
