widely used innovation theories are acknowledged to be Disruptive Innovation (current) and
Three Horizons (past). The discussion in relation to both the theories is given as underneath:-
Disruptive Innovation:
This theory was brought into existence within a book written by Professor Clayton
Christensen’s book named “The Innovator's Dilemma.” This is a theory which provides a
detailed overview regarding the rationale behind large scale established firms getting overtaken
by small scale entities. This gave rise to the idea of disruptive innovation. In other words, this
theory put forward the premises that small scale organisations have the potential with the help of
which they can disrupt the market of large entities (Ungureanu, Pop and Ungureanu, 2016). This
is facilitated by way of introduction of a new version of a product or service of corporation that
can appeal to the target audience in an effective manner. The innovation hereby is introduced
with the help of a new technology or concept.
Three Horizons:
The Three Horizons Innovation Framework is based upon McKinsey’s Three Horizons of
Growth and is applied in a bid to ascertain the extent to which the offerings of corporation are
able to deliver value and are aligned with the corporate strategy with the evolution of time
(Pynnönen, Hallikas, and Ritala, 2012). With reference to innovation, the 3 horizons are
identified as follows:-
Horizon 1: Exploiting the current offerings (core business activity and incremental
innovations to improve current offerings)
Horizon 2: Extending the business with new offerings which build on the core but
provide new value
Horizon 3: Exploring new future offerings that could change the company but aren’t
ready yet
With the efflux of time, it is seen that organisations observe and take into account the
alterations taking place within the scope of consumer needs, choices, rivalry, technologies,
market. This tends to decrease the value of current offerings, thereby giving rise to the need for
substitution with much more innovative merchandise. When this takes place, there are disruption
points wherein a horizon gets substituted by another one. This is illustrated with the help of an

students were in favour of using smart boards and crossover teaching (Jin, 2013). However, in
my opinion, assigning team projects would not be a good idea as there are people in a group who
don't want to work at all.
Improvements
Initially small clubs of students should be formed that focus on promoting innovation and
learning among student that can be integrated after a period of time to form primary clubs that
promote transfer of knowledge.
Personal Evaluation
I performed fairly well during this assessment task and I can work more on my
