1LEAD AND MANAGE EFFECTIVE WORKPLACE RELATIONSHIPS
Scenario:
JKL Industries, an Australia based organization, is planning to move from rental
market and enter a relatively more profitable market of retail sales and service. Consequently
restructuring of employee designations has become necessary. This is leading towards a
miscommunication amongst the employees of the organization, which is likely to affect the
business objectives of the organization. For this purpose, a communications consultant needs
to bring about some amendments in the communication framework of the company.
Communication Objectives:
Commitment to the association on the part of employees, allowing the senior
management team to transfer corporate aims to the personnel (Hallahan 2015).
The staffs will understand that the alteration in the company is not a threat to their
earning; it is rather going to increase the profit of their company and consequently
their wages.
The staffs are likely to come up with opinions and advancements, which in turn is
likely to enable effective management and may lead to invention of new services for
clients.
Audiences:
Communication flow must be ‘downward’, ‘upward’, ‘lateral’, ‘diagonal’ and
‘external’ for the purpose of a company to function properly, without any further hindrance
(Muhamedi and Ariffin 2017). Therefore, the following audience must be included in the
communication process of JKL Industries:
o Senior management team

o Individual staff
Methods of communication:
The following methods of communication might be implemented for hindrance free
functioning of the JKL Industries:
The company should break free from the dogmatic attitude of not implementing any
modern technological tool and must implement social media tools, such as
‘Facebook’, in order to facilitate smooth conversation amongst employees and also
between the company and its clients or suppliers (Wright 2016).
Programs must be arranged in order to educate the senior management team about the
advantages [particularly motivational capacity] of the downward flow of
communication (Voinea et al. 2015).
Meetings must be conducted quite often, involving each and every employee, ranging
from high officials to clerks; this would help the company in collecting opinions from
various perspectives and subsequently bring about improvement after removal of the
hindrances.
Provisions for bottom-up consultation:
Communication that involves and relies on a variety of ideas, coming from every
employee in the organization is usually known as bottom-up consultation (Muhamedi and
Ariffin 2017). Despite being effective, this process is time consuming. The following
procedures might be implemented in order to facilitate bottom-up consultation:
Surveys should be conducted at regular intervals, involving the individual employees.
This process is supposed to gather a variety of ideas, ranging from the lower levels to
leaders of the organization and effectively aids in the process of collective decision

making. This particular process, leaves no gap for miscommunication and makes the
employees at the lower level feel that they too are valuable assets of the company and
their opinion too is worth considering.
Senior management team must arrange for meetings involving the employees of lower
level, in order to learn about their grievances and opinions regarding their work
environment and policies of JKL Industries.
Grievance procedure:
A separate grievance cell must be set up for the employees, in case they are awkward
while sharing their grievances about their working circumstances to their immediate boss. An
employee grievance executive, must also be appointed, in case the grievance cell fails to
neutrally deliver their duty.
