INTRODUCTION
Management is known as the process of administration of an organization or people to
meet all the requirements with high efficiency (Hoffmann, Kiedrowicz and Stanik, 2016). The
management approaches that are used by the organization is constant for all type of organization.
The purpose of management is to administrate various operations of organisation with high
effectiveness. Leadership can be explained as action of guiding and leading a company or group
of people in right direction to achieve relevant goals.
This study will be based on the management and leadership of Aston Martin Lagonda
Global Holding PLC. It is an international automotive organization that is providing its services
to global audience. It was established in year 1913 by Lional Martin and Robert Bamford. The
role of leader and functions of manger will be briefly analysed with example of different
situations along with their characteristics. Various theories of leadership and management will be
explained in report in order to provide better information of operations of leader and manager
within organization. Key approaches of operations management will be evaluated in study with
information of different roles that are played by leader and manager within the organization.
Different factors that can affect operation management of organization will be studied along with
value of operation management for success of business organization.

Roles of Leader
Some of the main roles of leader in organization are-
Providing Direction to Organization
This is one of the most important role of leader in organization. It is their work is to guide
and provide direction to people of Aston Martin Lagonda to keep their operations beneficiary for
organization. In this role, leader of company provides organizational vision to the employees and
set future goals to keep operations of employees focused in order to achieve these targets within
estimated time (Huemann, Keegan and Turner, 2018). This role help organization to stay focused
within organizational operations.
Motivating Employees
It is important for leader to motivate the employees in order to keep their performance
efficient to meet all the targets of organization. In this role leader use different approaches to

encourage and motivate the people of Aston Martin lagonda to give their best for operations of
organization.
Roles of Manager
The role of manager is completely different from leader of organization. Main roles of
manager in operations of organization are-
Monitoring
Manager is the person who supervise all the operations on the work floor. It is their role
to manage all functions of employees and machinery within work place to maintain the assembly
line of Aston Martin Lagonda to meet demand of company product in market place (Hällgren,
Rouleau and De Rond, 2018). By Monitoring the operations of organization manager of
company can ensure efficient working of production line of company without any major or
minor failure.
Planning
This is also main function of manager to plan the various function of organization in
order to gain higher productivity internal operation of company. By this process manager can
effectively plan functions of Aston Martin Lagonda.
Organizing
This is main function of manager to organize all the internal function of the organization
to maintain the production line of Aston Martin Lagonda.
Leading
Manager lead the internal operation of Aston Martin Lagonda. By this process they can
effectively perform decision making for organization.
Controlling
This is main function of manager in organization to control all people and operation in
order to maintain productivity in quality in operations.
Spokes Person of Organization
Manager is the person who act as spokes person of Aston Martin Lagonda for employees
of company. This is role of the manager to provide the detailed information of decisions that are
taken by senior leadership of organization to employees (Park, Song and Lim, 2016). Manager
works as mediator between company leadership and workforces to manage the operations of
organization efficient to maintain performance of company high in target market.

This is how the role and responsibilities of leader and manager are similar in different
ways. But the perspective of their work in in completely different scanario. The role of the leader
is regarding leading the organization in international business scenario and role of manager is
related to the leading operation of organization.

This is important for leaders to have some qualities that can help them to leader the

the leader to have effective communication skills in order to guide and motivate employees to
keep them loyal to organization and make them aware of all the decisions that are taken by
leadership of company (Kulikov, Antonov and Konev, 2019). They are also creative and
confident in nature and it can make them effective enough to be a role model for employees. This
all characteristics can help them to lead Aston Martin Lagonda in right and successful manner.

The characteristics of leader are similar to the leader but there are some differences in
implementation of these characteristics with in operation management in Aston Martin Lagonda.
Managers of organization have high experience and knowledge of company operations. This
knowledge and experience helps them to manage all the operations with in manufacturing plant
of company to continuous production (Taylor, Santiago and Hynes, 2019). Managers of
company are highly reliable and time efficient to keep performance and operations of plant to
meet demands of market place. This is how these characteristics of manager help them to work
effectively with in organization.
Difference Between Role of Leader and Functions of Manager in organization
The roles of leader and functions of manager can be differentiated by learning their work
within the organization. This is the role of the leader to provide the vision to the people of
organization for the success of company and for this function of manager to design various goals
according to the vision which is provided by the leader (Nicholas and Steyn, 2017). The role of
leader in organization is to take risk in order to keep organization growing and developing. For
the same case function of the manager is to reduce the level of risk which is taken by leader

through implement various changes in the organization (Saunders and Townsend, 2016). This
difference also can be taken as the perspectives of leader are for long term but the perspective of
managers is for short term that can help them to manage various operations and minimise
chances of failure in operations.
Critical Analysis of Role of Leader and Function of Manager Within the Organization
There are different conditions faced by leader and manager in Aston Martin Lagonda to
keep operations of company as per the trends of target market. For Example, in condition of
technological or operation failure role of leader is to provide various solutions with their
creativity and innovative thinking. For operational and technological failure leader can take
decision to implement various technological and procedural changes with in Aston Martin
Lagonda. In this condition the function of the manager is to perform different researches and
analysis to find areas within organization that needs some innovative and creative changes in
order to meet operational and performance requirement of organization (Dulebohn and Hoch,
2017). Managers make different arrangements with in organization to implement changes that
are suggested by leader of company. By this process both leader and managers can help the
organization to maintain internal and external efficiency in performance.
This differences also can be explained with example of launching a new product with in
market place to improve the performance of company. For this example, role of leader is to take
and bear complete risk of failure with the decision of investing in introducing new product in the
market place. In this situation, leader will provide all the resources that are important to
introducing and developing concept of new product. For this situation, functions of the manager
will be based on the approach to keep this new product development process with cost and time
effectiveness. This will be their duty to keep process of new product development with minimum
level of risk along with timely development of product (Xu, Loi and Ngo, 2016). This is how it
can be explained that role of leader is to take risk for organization and functions of manager are
aimed to reduce the risk from the whole process to keep it profitable for Aston Martin Lagonda.
Theories of Approaches that are Used by Leader and Manager in Organization
There are different approaches are used by the leader and manager in the organization in
order to keep the actions of organization profitable and cost effective. On an average basis there
are different challenges and issues are faced by leaders in organization that can affect the
performance of company in target market (Koohang, Paliszkiewicz and Goluchowski, 2017).

Some of leadership and management theories can be used to understand the approach of leader in
organization. For example, Situational theory, contingency theory and System theory can be
analysed to learn about the action that are taken by leader in Aston Martin Lagonda.
Situational Theory
According to this theory, the approach and leadership styles that are used by the leaders
of Aston Martin Lagonda are depended on the respective situations. The actions of leader are
completely based on issues or challenges that are faced by organization and them in various
operations. For example, if organization is going through failures due to employee motivation
and performance issue then the approach of leader will be based on process that will help them to
improve the motivation level of employees in order to encourage them to perform better. To
motivate them by making personal and public communication sessions (Seto and Sarros, 2016).
This is how they will handle the issue related to employee’s motivation. In situation of

to contingency theory of leadership there is no any best suitable approach to lead the
organization. The approach of leader changes with the situation (Ilkhanizadeh and Karatepe,
2018). In detailed manner it can be taken as- the approach that is used by leader will only
successful if it is suitable to the particular condition. This is important for the leader to use most
effective approach that is suitable for particular problem. There are two statement can be used to

understand this theory more effectively. According to this theory, there is no constant style of
leadership that can be used by the leader of organization to keep it successful in target market
and other statement is the approach used by leader will be successful in only one condition if it is
effectively fits to the situation. For example, the approach that is used by leader for employee
motivation is not always suitable for all conditions. Sometimes leader have to take strict
decisions in order to full fill requirements of organization. For condition of misconduct by
employee leader cannot use same motivational approach, they have to act strictly in order to
manage their behaviour and actions good in organization.
Strengths of Contingency Theory
1. The best approach to lead organization.
2. Highly flexible for organization management.
3. This is also good form employees of organization.
Weaknesses of Contingency Theory
1. Can inconsistency in performance of leader.
2. This is difficult to occupy all the skills that are required for various approached of
leadership.
Contingency approach is completely based on the various approaches that are used by the people

System Theory of Leadership
According to this theory to improve the performance of the organization and improve
operation management with in Aston Martin Lagonda. This is important for the leader to create
better organizational system that is effective to meet all the operational requirement of
organization in the target market (Kelloway, Nielsen and Dimoff, 2017). This is all about
creating structure and system within the company to provide the opportunity to employees who
lies of different level with in organization. By creating suitable structure in organization leader
will be able to full fill future goals of company with high performance and quality standard. For
example, to improve the performance and quality of company product Leader can take initiative
to change the organizational structure to meet communicational requirement and operation
requirements of organization. In the organization like Aston Martin Lagonda company structure
can be changes by leader form vertical hierarchical to matrix structure in order to meet quality

leader change the company system to gain effective performance in the target market.
Strengths of System Theory
1. This is most dynamic leadership approach that can help the leader of organization to
design better system for employees.
2. This approach helps the organization to promote their business objectives and goals.
3. It can help leader to make effective changes in organization to meet long term goals of
company.
Weaknesses of System Theory
1. This approach cannot define the relationship between internal and external factors of
organization.
2. This provides a generalized solution for all problems so not applicable in all conditions.

been analysed and evaluated in order to improve the performance of organization in the target

and manager has been analysed in detailed manner in order to find basic requirements in a person
to become a leader of an organization. The characteristics of leader and manager has been
evaluated in order understand their suitability with in various conditions. Situation theory of
leadership, contingency theory of leadership and system theory of leadership has been studied to
understand approaches that are used by leaders and managers. Key approaches of operational
management also has been studied that are used by Aston Martin Lagonda Global Holding PLC
in managing their manufacturing plant and business operations. The importance of operation
management has been analysed by analysing various factors that can affect operational
management and decision making of organization. The value of operational management has
been learned in order to known their importance in achieving various objectives of organization.
