INTRODUCTION
Management & operations are related to some business practises which are having a
relation with how business functions have to be carried on in a effective manner. This is related
with overall process which can help in effective utilisation of available resources with the
organisation (Heizer, Renderand Munson, 2017). This report is based on Corus which is a
company dealing in steel and its headquarters are present in UK & Netherlands. There rae some
key approaches which are related with operations management and discussed in this report.
TASK 3
P4- Explain various Key approaches of operations management and overall role played by a
leader and manager in organisation
There are some approaches which are related with growth of business. In Corus there are
some approaches like Six Sigma which are important for smooth functioning of business
functions. Below mentioned are some approaches:
TQM: This is related with quality maintenance. In Corus company is focussing on
creation of a brand image which can help in survival in market for a long term period. Managers
in this company are also focussing on training their staff for executing various activity of
business.
Lean management: This is a tool which helps in reducing wastage and producing goods
which are best in quality (Gibson and Parkman, 2018). Such tools in Corus help in adopting
various tools which are related to lean management and also executing activities in a more
appropriate manner.
Six Sigma: This method is related with reducing of wastage. This is related with
adopting of technical tools such as DMAIC approach. This helps in analysis of various aspects
by defining, measuring, analysing, improving and controlling. Six sigma is a tool which helps in
solving of all the issues which arise in course of functioning of business.

From above discussion it can be said that higher authorities in Corus are playing a very
important part in maintenance of high quality of services & products.
P5- Explain overall significance & value of operations management helping in attainment of
business objectives
Operations management is a practises of business which is very helpful in creation of
increase profits and effectiveness in every organisation. This process is concerned with
conversion of material in final goods. This helps in increasing satisfaction level of customers.
Significance of operation's are discussed below:
Enhancement of productivity: For creation of various elements which can lead to
positivity in the organisation it is very important for growth of a company. In Corus managers &
leaders are helping in growth and sustaining of company in high competition. There are some
steps which are taken based on improvement of working conditions and a positive environment
for overall staff in the company (Bromiley, and Rau, , 2016).
Cost effectiveness: Leaders and Managers are crucial for organisation. In Corus this tool
helps in identifying some alternatives and then development of strategies which can help
management in forming strategies so that cost can be minimized. There are many types of cost
which is there in every business and those have to be managed so that there is presence of
effectiveness in every function of a company.
Above discussed is the significance of operations engagement in attainment of various
business objectives.

Business environment consist of various elements which can create a impact on overall
competence of a organization which is necessary for maintenance of a positive relationship
amongst customers (Merigó and Yang, 2017). There are some factors which are very necessary
for overall decision making process. Some functions of Corus are discussed below:

Social factors: These are some factors which have to be compulsorily taken carte by a
organisation is that different social behaviour of people and social beliefs of people. In Corus
company is conducting research so that they can study different factors which are connected with
social aspect of individuals and is changing with external environment of company.
Corporate Social Responsibility: There are many stakeholders which are related to
company both internally and externally. Such as employees, customers, investor, shareholders
etc. function of operations management is related with various decision which are taken in a
company (Slack, 2018). Management & operations is a functions which is related with social
responsibility in a company.
Culture: Overall culture in a organisation is concern with values & belief with
assumption used for governance of employees in company (McCrie, 2015). This is a very
necessary requirement which is related with security of employees in a organisation. This is
important aspect so that employees can contribute towards achievement of organisational
objectives with maximum of their capacity.
Stakeholders: This is referred to as a group of people who are having a direct or may
be indirect impact on overall functioning of organisation. In Corus, leaders & managers are
responsible for all major decision which have to be taken after consideration is given to all
stakeholders in company (Hübner, Holzapfel, and Kuhn, 2015). Various stakeholders such as
government, employees, investors, suppliers come together and help in efficient functioning of
various different functions in organisation. Leaders & managers are responsible for managing
them so that there are no barriers on smooth operating of functions in Corus.
From above made discussion it can be said that leaders and managers are solely
responsible for all major operation of company. This is one of very import step and is helping in
achievement of various objectives. Different factors have to be understood which are part of
every business and is assisting leaders & managers in making various important decision in
company.

CONCLUSION
The present report is based on some aspects which are related with how various functions
in operations engagement are taking place in a company. Some key approaches are used for such
functions and this role us played by leaders & managers in every company. Operations
management is very significance for attainment of objectives of business. All such activities ra
part of business environment and is assisting leaders & managers in making important decisions.
