Business and Organizational Leadership
Being the CEO of the company requires leadership qualities that will benefit both
employees and the organization (Bryant, 2017). After reading the article ‘How to be a C.E.O,
From a Decade’s Worth of Them’, I learned quite a lot of things that will help me become a
better leader. A curious mind can make great things happen. The eagerness to find out
everything, different approaches and varied outlook can be a great quality for a CEO. For
instance, there is a new technology in the market that is helping businesses grow. A curious
leader will try and gather everything there is to know about this latest development and will
put it to use for the advantage of the organization. In comparison, people who are not curious
might not even be interested to know about the technology let alone use it. Secondly,
challenging situations bring out the best in people. Sometimes pressure makes the person
outperform himself. The ability to take upon challenges is a quality that a CEO must possess.
The risk-taker can achieve a competitive edge as compared to the one who plays it safe.
Being able to take upon difficult tasks is a sign of a good leader (Bryant, 2017).
It is often seen that people desire to reach greater heights and get promotions. They
are in the jobs for years but the people who joined later become seniors. The most important
thing for a person (not just the CEO) is to perform the task at hand to the best of his abilities.
The dream to get promoted often hinders the level of productivity. Thus, it is crucial to
maintain the performance level to gain what is desired. This is one of the things that I liked
in the article. It helps one get clarity in having career goals and how to work towards them. It
is good to be ambitious but it shouldn’t be a hurdle in productivity. I am inspired by this
thought because I am career-oriented and I wanted to become a leader sooner in my career.

This fact has made me realize the importance of becoming a good performer and not
forgetting the ambition at the same time. This realization can help me later in my career
because I will be aware that I do not have to get my performance impacted by the ambitions I
have, instead, I should productively work towards the same. This article by Adam Bryant is
an eye-opener for not just the leaders but for anyone who wishes to become a CEO. It
perfectly sums up the entire list of things to do and things to refrain from. All the information
provided is a pool of knowledge that will help me become a good leader one day. A good
CEO has to be just that-good.
