the organisations. Many theorist such as Northouse, katz and kahn, John Maxwell, edger and
peter schein and Simone Ahuja are the one who innovate different theories. They are
explained below:
John Maxwell, gives the five levels of leadership for developing the leadership quality
in the individuality. The first one is Position; it is the entry level of leadership as this
stage is require no ability of targets to achieve. Every person who are starting his

Katz and Kahn, found a leadership theory on the basis of organisational behaviour.
How an organisation is structured and how its impact by the internal and external
factors define the leadership qualities. Closed organisation are insensitive to
environmental factors whereas the open organisation are responsive to change the
environment.
Leadership Models
Situational or contingency model is based on the assumption that a leader should vary
according to the challenges is facing by them. A good leader is the one who mould
themselves according to the need arises in the organisation. This theory is given by Fiedler so
this theory is known as Fiedler’s contingency theory. He defined that the leader is either task
oriented or relationship oriented. A task oriented leaders are directive, complete the work
based on the pre-determined structure and make the assignment on the basis of work. While
the relationship leader are focused on the people of their team, they are not as directive as
task oriented leaders are and they are considerate (Ross and Cozzens, 2016). This model is
suggested mainly three situations; the personal relationship with the other members, the work
which is assigned to the group, and the power and authority which is assigned to complete the
work. So this is how a model help the leaders of the various organisation to perform
effectively based on the theories and models of the leadership. Which leadership style, theory
or model is used by the leader is actually based on the situation of the leader in their
organisation.
Impact of the leadership style
A good leadership style will help to increase the employee’s morale, decision making
speed, productivity and effectiveness. Leadership style effect on the basis of theory used by
the leader or the model adopted by the company. It will increase the profit in the company
where the main motive is profit earning (Shapiro and Stefkovich, 2016). They are using the
task oriented model and strict leadership style which is followed by the other peer members
of the team. And if the company is not-for-profit organisation than the leader is used the
relationship oriented model and bureaucratic and servant related style of leaderships.
Theories and practices of the motivation
Motivation is the major key for the leader, for a successful leader it is important that
they are using an appropriate theory and use that theory according to the team need. There are

different motivation theory like Adam’s equity theory, Vroom expectation theory, and
Locke’s goal setting theory. All these theory known as process theory of motivation, as these
theories focused on how the motivation occur in the employees and how theses motives in the
employee change the overtime situation in the company. These theories explain further:
Adam’s equity theory: It was founded in 1965 and basically based on the social
exchange theory as people feel motivated when they treated equally and they received
rewards for their work and efforts (Spears and Lawrence, 2016). As Adam’s
suggested that people of the organisation feel extra motivated when their work is
compared with others and rewarded extra if they do extra efforts in the company.
Vroom’s Expectancy theory: Founded in 1964, it is based on the voluntary
behaviour of the individual. Vroom suggested that expectancy need assurance that
more efforts will gives the success, there must be a connection in between the activity
and goal and valence must be presented in the work which shows the degree of the
work which is rewarded.
Locke’s goal setting theory: In 1990, integrate the goal as the key of the behaviour.
It is most applicable theory in the companies, as the management team set the desired
gaol according to the capacity of the worker and then evaluate it on their performance.
The goal must be reliable, specific and measurable for the employee as well as the
company.
Leadership power and control
Power is the ability which show the ability to influence the others with or without any
resistance. Power and influence are the tools which are worked together in the leadership.
There are different power which is used by the leaders to fulfil the target which is desired by
the organisation. And another thing which can influence the decision of the leader is
persuasion, here the leader identify the problem and attempt the desirable solutions for
solving that problems (Taylor, 2017). It is a way to present the facts in front of other
employees that what actually a company wants from them.
