Leadership can be defined as the skills of individual which influences the individual or the
group of people in order to motivate them regarding their set goals and objectives. Leadership helps
in making the decision of the business organization and helps in gaining the competitive advantages
in the marketplace. It is not easy to become a leader. A leader is a person who motivates its
followers and helps them in enhancing their productivity in an effective manner. There are different
quality that the leader have which helps in guiding the individual as well as the whole team. These
qualities are vision, inspiration, critical and strategical thinking and many others(Andersen, 2018).
The chosen organization for the completion of the report is Tesco. the report includes the
brief description of leadership, its benefit to the organization and the challenges faced by the
business in adopting the leadership. The report also includes the different benefits of leadership to
the employer and the employees of he company.

The leadership concept was proposed by the warren Bennis in early of 1950. according to them
leadership is a important aspects in running the business in a smooth manner. It is the behavioural
quality of the person whereby guiding the individual or their activity in organized efforts. More than
30 books on leadership was written by him. They introduces different leadership styles and the
qualities of the leader. He also said that the process of becoming leader is similar if not similar, to
become a integrated human being(Guthrie and Jenkins, 2018).
Importance of leadership
It has been said that while not leadership, all alternative business components lie dormant. sturdy
leaders will facilitate a corporation to maximise productivity and reach business goals, whereas
weak leadership can hurt productivity and place the health of the business in hazard. Leadership
isn't one blanket characteristic that cures all ills, however, there are many various elements that has
to be gift for an organization’s leadership to be thought of adequate. There are different effective
and in-effective styles of leader.

the vision and values and also helps in remaining it in their day to day actions. The leader of
Tesco helps the employees in attain the set vision and values.
Boosts moral: the employees are the key elements of any business. The business can not
sustain without the skilled and knowledgable employees. Boosting the moral of the
employees help them in performing the work with full efficiency. The leadership helps the
Tesco in boosting the moral of its employees which result in increasing their productivity
and the efficiency of work.
Motivates employees: motivated employees are very crucial for the organization because
after the motivation the employees perform his duty in an effective manner. The one of the
main benefit of adopting the leadership is that it helps in motivating the employees which

managing, understanding and mobilizing all the elements of the business at same time. The
knowledge and skill is needed to mitigate consequences and overcome the resistance to

Leading a team: the leader has the ability to lead and guide the team of the organization.
But leading the team of more than 1000 peoples is a challenge. Tesco is multinational
company where more than 360000 employees work in a team and leading the these team is
the most challenging task for the leader.
