Leadership can be defined as the skillset of motivating a team of professionals in
order to ensure accomplishment of a shared vision. Leadership can be defined as the holistic
process of inspiring the followers and directing their course of action in order to ensure that
the organizational mission and vision is met. In order to maintain a smooth business process,
it is pivotal to ensure that the leadership and managerial style is effective. The productivity
and efficiency of a team is largely dependent on the distinct leadership trait and attributes of a
leader.
In context of my professional experience, I would like to mention that my current job
role includes my designation of Assistant Vice President. My job role is that of a Tech Lead
Developer and it involves mentoring team through the phase of development and testing
along with imparting training, providing quality assurance and fostering end user support. As
a leader I have majorly relied upon the Laissez-faire or the hand off type of leadership style.
The Laissez faire style of leadership makes use of the non-authoritarian style of leadership,
where in the leaders leave it on the team to deal with issues. It is believed that this leadership
style helps to refine the skills of the followers and enables them to learn better from their
personal experiences and adaptability. I have been following this leadership style but in my
professional career have experienced multiple conflicts on account of the leadership style.
I believe that pursuing my MBA degree at NUS Singapore would help me learn better
about the different styles of leadership and I would be able to implement the democratic,
visionary as well as the coaching styles of leadership within the professional field. I believe
that the mentioned styles of leadership help to positively motivate the followers so as to
accomplish enhanced productivity and accomplish positive outcome in the professional field.
