1CHALLENGES OF LEADERSHIP ROLES
Discuss the challenges of leadership and management roles in global
environments. What role can enterprise leaders play to overcome these
challenges?
This essay will explore the challenges of leadership and management roles in the global
environment and what roles the enterprise leaders can play in order to overcome these
challenges. Enterprise leaders have a major responsibility in managing an organization and its
employees. Enterprise leaders face many difficult challenges whilst attempting to successfully
operate in the global environment (Cseh, Davis & Khilji 2013). Managers and leaders are both
very alike but what differentiates them is that people will voluntarily follow a leader but a
manager has people who work for them. Both leaders and managers face a number of challenges
and are accountable in overcoming these challenges in global environments.
A challenge that leaders and managers may face could be personal problems that may
occur between them and the employees (Maranga & Sampayo 2015). When in a working
environment, people from different cultural backgrounds and different mind-sets are working
together with the same goal, this could lead to each individual having different views, emotions
and opinions. Enterprise leaders and managers must overcome these challenges by understanding
individuals are different.
Another challenge that can arise is external challenges. External challenges form when
rapid change occurs, when there is a rise in the population and advancements in technology.
Leaders and managers all around the globe face and resolve a wide range of this challenge on a
daily basis.

the managers and the leaders to inspire the workers and then extract the best work out of them
but sometimes the leaders and the entrepreneurs have a difficult time putting in the effort that
they need to inspire the employees (Nienaber 2010). In that case they can talk to employees and
provide them with some other benefits that will inspire them to work more and increase the
productivity of the company.
There are certain managerial skills that have to be developed by the managers and the
leaders. These skills include time management, prioritization, decision making, strategic
thinking, getting up to speed with the job. These roles are essential for the managers and the
directors to undertake but some time they do not have the ability to perform these roles. In that
case there has to be proper training that has to be undertaken by the managers so that they can
work towards ensuring that they are fulfilling all the responsibilities that they are supposed to as
a part of their job.
One of the major roles of the leaders is to lead a team of employees. It is expected of a
leader that they have the ability to lead a team of employees from different backgrounds but
these job cannot be performed by everyone hence they need to learn how to lead a team, this can
be done by talking to the supervisors and the directors of the organization (Simonet & Tett
2012). Leading a team is an essential pre-requisite of every leader as they have to manage a
group of employees and in order to do so they should learn the essential skills of leadership.
It is the duty of the leaders and the managers to guide the change that they want to see in
the organization. Every organization is dynamic and they need to be so, if in any point of time
they become static, then the leaders of the organization needs to see the change they can want to.
Sometimes the policies of the organization need to change and to do so the responsibility has to
