1COMMUNICATION AND CONFLICT RESOLUTION SKILLS
Response to Question 1.
Glen Senk, the CEO of David Yurman, has covered all the prospects of leadership skills. He is
an effective listener, a quality that every leader must possess. He has good communication with
the workers which helps the company to overcome problems in much more ease. However, in
accordance with proper leadership skills, a leader must also know how to learn and follow along
with leading his team. He must motivate others and influence them in being more productive.
The leader must communicate openly about the potential problems that are a threat and interact
with them by taking initiative to work and solve problems together; however everything should
be within a disciplined interaction. The leader should not be completely dependent upon
interaction through social media; he must also encourage face-to-face communication (Folger,
Poole & Stutman, 2017).The best way to create appropriate interpersonal networks is when the
leader is active in all four kinds of communication with the employees like peer leadership
network, operational network, personal network and strategic networks (DuBrin, 2015). A
communication between the leader and the workers can only be effective when the leader is
flexible towards all kinds of interactive methods.
Response to Question 2.
Social media is a huge platform that is making its way in every prospect of life, jobs and
more. Facebook is one such social networking site where the line is blurred between real and
online interaction. It helps in building strong relationship with the co-workers. Incorporating
social media always improves performance and spreads positive culture. Being together in social

network with workers makes the employees feel more connected; hence they feel more involved
in organisational success.
Thus, certain issues emerge as a result when a leader or Division President is too much
interactive with his employees on social media (Bucher, Fieseler &Suphan, 2013). There is a
distinct lack of work and life balance for both the leader and the employee (DuBrin, 2015). The
professional life and personal life should never be intermingled with, which is why being too
much involved with every employee on a platform like Facebook never ends well for the leader
and the employees as well. Moreover, no matter how equal attention the leader tries to pay
towards every employee on social media, he/she will be accused of favouritism, which is the last
thing a true leader would want to hear (Batool, 2013). The most significant disadvantage of
being intermingled personally over Facebook is that sometimes it restricts the leader to deliver
constructive criticism to the workers in need.
Response to Question 3.
Effective leadership will always receive criticisms which he has to endure and handle
with composure and fortitude. When this scenario presents itself, the leader must not be
disheartened and should not take the comment personally (DuBrin, 2015). Instead, he should
assess the reason for which he is getting the criticism and analyse the factors on which he needs
to work upon to improve his skills(Wallensteen, 2018).The leader must be stern in his trait and
not own the criticism without any assessment. The leader should not react impulsively when he
is facing the conflicts; he should treat the matter with patience and maturity. He must have an
optimistic approach to a negotiation that should be carried on without letting the respondent
being intimidated. Under this type of adversity, some leaders tend to defend themselves and

overreact in order to keep their reputation intact, which is highly inappropriate. At the end of the
day, a leader should take the criticism, analyse the conflict and make it into an opportunity to
polish his leadership skills.
Response to Question 4.
The effective skills of communication and conflict resolution are very significant trait of
a true leader. These skills have a direct impact on a company’s competitiveness. The
communication skill helps to build and maintain a peaceful and healthy relationship among the
workers, resulting in a better performance (Jones, 2013). The healthier the ambience, the better
the creativity of the employees and productivity increases too (DuBrin, 2015). All of this leads
the company to grow in its brand and enhance the opportunities to compete in a global level. As
for the conflict resolution skill of the leader, it has been noticed that, when a leader has the
ability to resolute conflicts, the company is seen to improve in group learning and team work,
thus taking the company forward, towards a global success goal.
Response to Question 5.
74% of the organisations in the world have accepted that implementation of effective
knowledge management program and attending to it has increased company productivity by 10%
to 40% (Greene, 2019). Knowledge is a very significant asset in any company, yet it is difficult
to access and it is constantly at risk of fading away (DuBrin, 2015). Knowledge Management
program helps an employee to get accessed to information that is shared by previous employee;
otherwise it takes 30% of the new employee’s time to recreate accession of the same information

(Greene, 2019). When a company attends this program in a standardized process, employees are
seen to make less mistakes and a lot of time is saved thus saving more time for productive
results.
