Executive summary
Human relation and interaction in a given environment demands to be mutual to
sustainably combat the storms of economic, social, and political avenues of life. I wrote this
article with an intention to outline my experience in Lake District Cumbria for a week.
I have used both primary and secondary data to develop this report but maintained the
scope to the interaction of the people the University of Cumbria. The amount of information
could only cause the only possible limitation of the report at exposure in the secondary sources,
but in the real sense, I advocate for the report universal application.

Introduction
I bet every community has a different culture hence different expectation on the conduct
of the members. The culture of the community in discussion determines who takes which

responsibility in social, economic, and political aspects. The culture also determines who is
entitled the oversight mandate. Sustainability of the members is, therefore, reliant to the
relationship and its efficiency (Wettstein et al., 2019).
In this report, I will detail the aspect of ethics, responsibility, and sustainability and the
challenges facing the three as well as the role of partnership and leadership in combating the
situations (Aspelund, Fjell, & Rødland, 2017). Before delivering the details on challenges of the
above aspects, I will first define for each and detail what it entails.
Ethics: similar to all other communities living in any part of the world, the people of
Cumbria is a no exception case on the matter of ethics. In a more direct explanation, ethics is the
principles and morals that govern individuals or community behavior or the way of life. This
implies that if one behaves against the morals and the rules governing the community he belongs
to, is said to be unethical or immoral (Whiting et al., 2018).
The code of conduct of the members of the community call for transparency and
accountability on the conduct of the members by ensuring strictness on abiding by the rules and
abiding by the rules and procedures of conduct and protocol in solution seeking to the conflicts
of interest in the community (Boström et al.,2015). On matter ethics, the members of the

community are accountable to their conduct. The members are also expected to account on their
conduct; penalties are imposed on misconduct to ensure transparency and accountability in
residence. You will agree with me that several elements of characterizing every society, and this
defines my interest of discussion in ethics under challenges of ethics.
Responsibility: the state of the community in the discussion is as a result of the
contribution and the roles played by every member. Responsibility is the duty mandated to an
individual or the role of control over a given aspect of life in the community. On the findings on
my research, I was amused to realize the majority of community members only consider
responsibility as the role played by the individual in physical activity of performance, or the
duties of the top ranking individual’s protocol wise in the community especially the leaders and
the elders.
The members of the lesser say in the community believe deterioration of the community
conduct is based on the effectiveness of the governing body and the level or the weight of the
penalty imposed on misconduct in the duty of work or underperformance (Dalby et al., 2019).
The assumption is, however, the most incredible thing the member should have embraced. The
community members have roles right from the top ranking to the one commonly undermined and
seem to play a less weighing role in the community. The responsibility in the community has a
big range of the actuators matching their roles in the community, but for the reason of word limit
in this report, I will only have an insight to the challenges of responsibilities later in the article.
Sustainability is the ability to maintain a given state of the act. The state is to be always
maintained a goal set by the individuals mandated the responsibility or naturally defined state of
desire determined by nature. The state could be on the social aspect on matter peace of the

people, morals accepted by the community or environmental aspect like the green cover while
others will have a focus on the economy and the living standards of the community or the
political state of the region (Dinica, Lund-Durlacher, & Reiser, 2019).
The debate on the ability of the community to maintain the standards set either by nature
or the leading body of the community, however, sparks issues worth consideration. In this report
accounting on the high rate of climate change, advancement in technology, and the growth in the
population of the region.
Challenges in ethics
The conduct that is morally upright in residence faces challenges whose control may even be
beyond the ability of the leaders and the elders on the community residing in the Lake District
Cumbria. On my research on trend of the conduct of the members of the community and the

entire world, I found the entire community of Cumbria and the entire world is prone to change
later if not soon in future. This is on account of the fast growth rate of information and
communication technology at the exposure of the members of the community (Dissanayake, Tilt,
& Qian, 2019). My residence in Cumbria was at the University but I used to walk around
studying the Behavior of the community. At first, I was nervous and scared, just wanted to
crawl into a shell, felt a bit intimidating as I knew no one there. However, by the end of the day,
I was relaxed, and as the days went on, I started to feel at ease and quickly picked up that we
were all there for the same reason (To learn).
The icebreakers every morning was something I looked forward to. As it helped to reflect on my
day and what I learnt the day before. I had to join forces with other people. The icebreakers
were was also experimental learning for me. It was an enjoyable experience as I went around
collecting relevant data concerning the trend of conduct of the members of the community.
I worked in a group of six people during the survey. The group I had to work with was
impressive because I had to adjust to the different cultures I had to work with, which made me
realize how important trust was. At first, I was a little annoyed but happy after all as it pointed
out that we all need to work together. I took from that how essential teamwork and
communication was (El Din, & Abdallah, 2016).
The traditional wear of the community, which had a significant meaning to the
community is subject to extinction and outdated to the community. The members are actively
embracing the foreign wear, which is continuously degrading the morally accepted wear of the
people on the use of the slogan my dress my choice. My fear for the future generation is the
possibility of half-naked wear in the streets of Cumbria.

The transparency the community members had in the past is continuously degrading, and
it is not a rare case to encounter a member of the community who cannot account on the source
of his procession since it is generated from criminal activities such as drug dealings, robbery, and
ransom. The traditionally condemned drug dealers among other criminal economic activity are
henceforth becoming part of the community member's activities and the generation to come is
likely to find the act in practice just like any other legal, economic activity (Flynn, Tan, & Gudić,
2017). These factors, among the endless list of them, are the main challenges of ethics of the
community in discussion.
Challenges of responsibilities
Am sure everyone is aware of the most basic responsibility in human life. It is the
responsibility of the parents, both the father and the mother to provide the children with the basic
needs until they attain the legal age of depending on their fetch in both social and economic
activities. Unfortunately, with a rise in the drugs deals and premarital sex is alarming on the rate

MANAGEMENT 8
at which dependent youths are giving birth. The responsibility of the grandparent is increasing by
day despite the economic inability to support the two (Tekleab, 2016).
The community members are tirelessly gaining the feeling of independence and rarely
involve themselves on the matters they are not directly mandated to undertake. From my
research, the security agencies are exposed to little information on the criminal activities in
conduct within the region the community is based (Jamali, Lund-Thomsen, & Jeppesen, 2017).
The residents take it to be the total responsibility of the security agencies to seek the information
to grass root without the help of the residents. The responsibility of the security agencies to
control criminal activities is henceforth subject to challenges halting its efficiency.
Since the time before the written history, learning has been taking place where the more
informed members of the community are assigned the responsibility of disseminating knowledge
to the minors. The rate at which technology is changing hence becomes a significant threat to the
responsibility of the tutor to teach the learners. Giving this as an ideal example, the use of the
computer in the class setting was a big challenge to the tutors to disseminate the knowledge they
do not pose to the students. Further, the machinery being developed as a strategy to make work
more effective in the production field is above the knowledge of the tutors of both formal and
informal teachings. It is henceforth a significant challenge to manage the responsibility with the
lack of capacity it deserves (Kudłak, & Low, 2015).
Challenges of sustainability
Maintaining the status of the residence at a top level is faced tuff challenges from both internal
and external. The climate change in the residence is affecting the natural habitats, thus migration
and extinction of given species of animals and plants the locals heavily relied on as the source of

food. Dr Grace Hurford & Dr David Murphy listening to them, about responsible business has
made me more efficient with the use of resources. Sustainability I learnt to have a better attitude
and to make decisions which are harmonious with a sustainable and fair world.
The change in climate also has affected the farming practice of the community, and a
further change is expected to result in shortages in the food supply to the locals. The central
aspect of climate affecting food production is global warming, which is attributed by the increase
in the volumes of emissions of smokes by automobiles and processing factories. Global warming
is affecting farming hence food shortage, thus challenging food supply sustainability.
Poor birth control is also resulting in a high rate of population increase piling up pressure
on the available food supply and constraint in the social amenity. Further increase in population,
which is expected in the future, will increase pressure on the land and food produced.
Consequently, the food available to the residence and the community will be inadequate, thus
challenging the community sustainability (Li, 2017).
The occurrence of the natural calamities like drought and tsunamis results to famine and
destruction of resources in residence. The occurrence is beyond the human ability to control
them, and results are always severe. The occurrence of famine leads to unsustainability in food
produced by the residents hence malnutrition. Also, the situation of the residential area after a
tsunami is always pathetic, it flattens the land, it destroys the plants, and the structures rose

above the ground. The affected are left with no roof above their heads, thus altering the
community sustainability on matter shelter and settlement.
The growth in population also calls the need for land to settle; consequently, the forests
are encroached destroyed in the search for building wood and settlement area, the green cover of
the residence is henceforth destroyed subjecting the water catchment areas to risk or drying up
(Makka, & Nieuwenhuizen, 2018). The forest cover is also destroyed in large margins by forest
fires and droughts hence challenging to sustain the residence at the levels desired.
In the social grounds, I realized the greed for power and selfishness in various aspects of
life has a significant role to play in the high growth rate of corruption and crimes. Crimes and
corruption are among the main aspects of life condemned by the community; therefore, social
morals are at risk of in the future. The challenges of sustainability of the Cumbria community are
endless, for the reason of conciseness of the report on the ground of the limited word count; I
will only give the highlights above to the subject (Rhee, Park, & Petersen, 2018).
Partnership approaches to address the issues
I believe that every challenge has a solution, and it is only a matter of unleashing your
potential and dedicate it to the matter to ensure all the above challenges are well coped with. I
will discuss the subject partnership under the application to handle the challenges of ethics,
responsibility, and sustainability (Melissen et al., 2016).
Document Page
MANAGEMENT 11
When the two comes together with a mission of eliminating a given difficulty or
challenge, they are likely to perform well than when individuals are dedicated to solving the
same challenge independently. The challenges on the ethics of the community are well handled
through partnership. The collaboration of the community members can ensure that the ethics of
the community are well observed. Information technology facilitating sharing of the ill
information on the matter conduct and fashion wear can be banned from use or impose a limit on
the content of the shared information.
The members of the community are also the sellers of the ill fashion that is against the
accepted moral. If the community members partner together both the sellers and the buyers to
eliminate the unaccepted wear in the market, it will only take a few days (Moragues-Faus, 2017).
The willingness to say the truth is personal but I believe if the community members
partner with each other to ensure transparency the young and innocent generation will adapt to
the way of life the find hence they will also share truthful information.
Responsibility of bringing up a child should also be done in a community-based manner.
The responsibility of the should not be limited to parent only because at some cases the parents
may not have the capacity to provide all the basic needs of the child especially food, but when
the challenge is taken as the responsibility of the community to manage the crisis, it becomes
easier to have a meal on the table (Noh, 2017).

MANAGEMENT 12
The members of the community partnership with the authority will facilitate the sharing
of information on the criminal activities conducted in the community. This will facilitate
efficiency in security services delivery. If crimes and drug deals are eliminated in the
community, the rates at which the early births are occurring are likely to drop in future hence
reducing pressure on the available resources like land thus reducing forest cover encroachment
conserving the environment (Teixeira, 2019).
It is a collective responsibility to ensure the sustainability of the residents in their
residence area. The matter affecting the community calls for the partnership of the members of
the community to combat the challenge; to ensure the sustainability of the aspect in consideration
(Nordén, 2016). The community partnership to control the crimes cases, drug deals, and rate of
birth can control the population growth hence the pressure on the available food hence
combating food sustainability in the community.
The community can as well partner in activities like trees planting as a measure combat
the green cover destruction hence controlling the rate at which the water catchment areas are
destroyed. The conservation of the water catchment areas reduces water and rainfall shortages
hence combating drought, thus sustainability in the food supply to the members of the
community.
Leadership approach to address the issues
Leadership is the best tool in controlling the community conduct on the values that are
believed to be beneficial to the community. Individuals in the community are assigned the
responsibility of coordination, control, and planning of the communities’ activities (Park, &

Roome, 2017). The leaders set regulations to be followed to the letter and also the fine the failure
to follow the rules can attract.
The leadership of the community has the responsibility of ensuring ethical conduct of the
community members in the aspects of wear and fashion as well as the general conduct when in
public. The penalty doing to the contrary should accompany the act may attract as a measure to
ensure the rules are followed hence maintaining the community ethics and conducts.
I realized that leadership also has the power to do follow up on whether every member of
the community is fulfilling their responsibility. Parents who neglect their responsibility of
providing and bringing up their children should be forced to and subjected to a fine as a lesson to
the others who may think of doing the same in future (Park, Meglio, & Schriber, 2019).
The leadership of the community has the power to conduct planning of the community
activities like environmental cleaning and conservation to ensure the sustainability of the
community. The leadership also influence the conduct of the people on the matter say several
births, when the leading advocates for few children in a given family or the giving birth to the
number of children one can support, will affect the population growth rate hence sustainability.
How experimental learning from residency informed my practice
Perhaps, learning by reflection is the best form of learning since I have been involved in
the study of the aspects in the practical sense. I have been informed to the extent of appreciating
the significance of good neighbourhood and relationship with the community members. I
Document Page
MANAGEMENT 14
realized that, in the residence area, the communities members have to maintain and appreciate
the ethics of the community to ensure the upright moral behaviour are installed to the community
members and the future generation (Pegoraro, 2018).
I have learned that as a member of a given community, you have a role to play in ensuring the
sustainability of the community. I am now able to contrast and compare as well as assign roles to
the community members through evaluation of their capabilities to handle and manage the
challenges in the community. The W & S experimental trading with Tim Sims & Dr David
Murphy, was so eye opening for me as that spoke how important trust is.
Learning by reflection has given me an insight to the subject challenges of the members of a
given community living in the same residence in practical angle by collecting primary and first-
hand data from the actual community rather than the use of theories and secondary data on the
subject. My actions that I will take in the short time and long term as a result of this learning and
insight is to adopt to positive change, stop procrastinating and do something positive with my
new knowledge.
Now, The Hike through Cumbria’s Lakeland was AMAZING. The view was nothing short of
spectacular. The poems took me quickly, as a lot related to me. It was also mind clearing and a
breath of fresh air. Helped me appreciate more of what I was learning indoors at the university.
Conclusion
For me it was a very intense and educational week. I will use what I’ve learnt there help me
throughout my life and career. I managed to tick all the boxes on my “ How successfully did

bingo game for me was super exciting as even though back to my first day where I was nervous
and scared, just wanted to crawl into a shell, felt a bit intimidating, led me to understand, we are
all humans from all walks of life that live regular lives.
