INTRODUCTION
Personal and professional development is one of the important concept that helps a
person in developing the skills, which are essential to give desired performance in an
organisation. For this purpose, by identifying the own capabilities and weaknesses, a person can
make plan to make improvement accordingly, for achieving better opportunities and growth in
career. (Personal and professional development. 2020). The organisation in which I want to
work in future, after completing the study is retail sector, because it provides a number of
opportunity for personal growth, like how to satisfy the customers, earning their loyalty etc. In
this regard, company which I seek to get employment is Tesco, which is considered as one the
top employer and shows better signs of running business in longer period. In this retailing
organisation there are exciting opportunities with the help of which, individual can see
significant growth in their career. In addition to this, primary reason for which I want to work in
retailing sector is that, it is one of the fastest moving industry. Tesco is an ideal organisation to
work. The role which I want to perform within an organisation is related to Procurement
Manager or Purchasing Manager.
The aspects which are covered in this report is related to identify those skills, which are
essential for working in a large organisation of retail industry. For this purpose, professional
development plan is built under this report.
Identification of company and role
I have completed the study in management field, where during academics, I have learnt a
number of concepts which is essential for managing a business, especially in retail sector, such
as time, money, manpower etc. Integrally all these have huge impact over the development of my
management skill. This would be the reason that I want to work for the organisation that belongs
from the Retail Industry. One of the ideal organisation in which I want to be placed is Tesco. The
reason is that Tesco has successive operations within this industry from many years and able to
carry on business activities in different countries. The role which I basically want to play within
an organisation is related to Procurement Manager. The reason is my previous experience along
with study of the managerial aspects. Getting employment as Procurement Manager within
Tesco is my dream that will help me in earning a better career opportunity.

Skills developed during the course and the contribution towards an organisation
From the starting I have interested in management related activities. Whenever, I have
gained opportunity during academics to increase my management skills, I prefer to manage all
the different aspects simultaneously for completion of the work on time. This would be the
reason that I have decent skills along with that interest in respective field. During academics, I
have worked on a number of projects both in groups and at individual level, that helps me to gain
knowledge about skills which are essential for completing the same. Therefore, skills which are
developed includes time, manpower, funds management etc. The completion of projects along
with the management of time for study and other curricular activities, help me to build effective
time management skills that aid in completion of all activities on time. In development of funds
management skills, not only course knowledge helped but previous experiences gained from the
family also contributes in increment of the effectiveness of same. Through the use of these skills,
I can contribute towards an organisation in development of effective working culture where all
employees help each other in completion of work on time. Management of funds within an
organisation help to operate day to day activities continuously without any hindrances. This aid
in cost reduction along with continuation within operational functions.
Development of professional development plan and the possible benefits have by an organisation
Use of personal development plan has significant contribution in the development of
professional aspects within an individual (Priest and Middleton, 2016). The same is used by me
where SOAR help to identifying personal attributes which are strong or weak along with future
aspirations. Afterwards, SMART goals are going to set for future development (Clinton, 2018)
(Carver, 2016). In last, professional development will be made that carries all the activities
related to the development.

It has been concluded from the above report that personal and professional development
is necessary exercise which is required to perform on continuous basis. This will provide an
opportunity regarding the development of new skills along with improvement in professional
career. SOAR is the effective tool for personal development plan that integrally help to
determine professional skills for career development. PDP is the effective framework that help in
carrying development activities effectively along with their completion on time.
