own areas of expertise and weaknesses. Therefore, a leader should be able to use these strengths
to attain the desired objective. Working on a project together might be conflicting, but at the
same time, it helps the employees as well as their leaders to identify the areas in which they
excel and the areas in which they need to work on (Chagnon, 2013). These barriers seem difficult
in the short-term, but in the long-term, they can be of great advantage to the organization and its
people. Furthermore, Emotional Intelligence can be used to manage the barriers and their effects.
It is the responsibility of the leader/manager to make use of the potential of subordinates and
motivate them to align their individual goals with that of the organization. Barriers are a part of
the growth and development process, without these realizing the actual strengths is rather
impossible.

Organizational change is necessary for keeping up with the latest trends and gaining a
competitive edge. It is observed that organizations that are open to change and adapt them
readily succeed and develop faster, as compared to the competition. The leader plays a crucial
role as far as the process of change is concerned. Employees look upon their leader as their
mentor and inspiration. Some organizations faced resistance on the part of their employees or
trade unions. This is because it threatens their comfort zone and demands them to step out of it.
Emotional Intelligence is a key factor to manage this change. It enables the leader to empathize,
motivate, and understand the thought process of the employees (Kafetsios, Nezlek & Vassiou,
2011). Thus, using emotional intelligence as a key tool, the leader can motivate his employees to
be acceptant towards the change and gain a competitive edge in order to attain the desired
organizational objectives.
