Definition of Leadership
Leadership is qualified as a set of skills that is considered as both research area and
practical skill area that emphasis the ability to lead an organization or association, also
influence, and guide particular individuals. A good leader enhances the efficiency of an
organization and help in achieving the desired goals. In any sports organizations, leadership
is considered as a great aspect. Managers contribute their part but coaches play an important
role in influencing the players. They are responsible for making the strategic plans and tactic
in the field and helps in providing motivation to the players (Ekstrand et al., 2018).
The position that they enjoys are of great responsibility and they are entitled with
many sensitive tasks. Their influence is important in making team relationship and making
strong bond among every team members, so that at times of crisis they act as one. Their
position is also vital in reaching the desired goals of the organization. They are also
responsible for monitoring the health regulations of every players and provide a healthy
environment for supporting the growth of the organization.
Kind of leadership approaches the appeared in the Case Study
In the first case, which discussed about the case of Coach Mike Leach, where they
coach have negotiated and made a lucrative contract. This contract comes with a sizable
bonus that allows the coach for a prolonged period of stay in the next season.
The case study shows that Coach Leach lacked trust over the celebrity player Adam
James. The decision that were taken up by Coach Leach were considered to be unethical and
immoral. Adam James suffered a concussion while practicing and were instructed by the
team physician to take rest. Although, Coach Leach was not satisfied by the decision of the
physician. Leach believed that James were faking about the concussion and the injury
happened due to lack of James. Thus, Leach ordered team physician and trainer Pincock to

lock him at the dark shed. This raised controversies against Coach Leach (Kim & Cruz,
2016).
Coach Gary Barnett have been accused of many sexual assaults and many thing like
providing alcohol to minors. This things have lead the coach to serious troubles also. The
coach have taken many decisions being biased and fir her personal needs. Coach Barnett have
been taken team member whom are ready to compromise later. This kind of leadership
aspects have been shown by the Coach.
Leadership Styles that could be used by Coaches
Rather than this kind of immoral leadership styles, coaches could use some different
kind of approaches. They use Autocratic Coaching style that classifies as dictatorship style.
This would help in making improvement in the team (O'Boyle, Murray & Cummins, 2015).
Otherwise they could use holistic coaching which helps the coach in developing a
relationship with each athlete based on interpersonal communication.
Ethics and Corporate Responsibility of the coaches
Form the case study, it could be pointed that the coaches lacked responsibility towards
their players and lacked ethical morality. Being a coach, these kind of behaviors are
unacceptable and needed to be changed or else it would harm both the athlete and the
organization (Pankow, Mosewich & Holt 2018).
