Leadership is an instinctive character in me; whether it was in the school Playground, as a
captain in the soccer team or student council leader in the high school. I am born with a common
character to lead the people. For a long time I thought this was because I enjoyed being in a
position of control, a position of influence where I could direct people to work in a definite way
(Armstrong & Taylor, 2014). The essay is regarding the personal leadership experience and
represents individual activities as a leader.
However, recently I have realized that I love the impact created by my leadership skills
on people around me. Leadership is a position or a title given to an individual in order to make
decisions and lead a group of people. People are lead by the example around them in order to
implement a significant change. An efficient leadership practice creates a significant impact to an
individual life. They are lead by significant examples in order to pursue work of their choice
(Bamberger, Biron & Meshoulam, 2014). Everyone cannot become a leader. I consider there are
certain personality traits that motivate an individual to take the lead. However, I believe that
leadership is connected with the amount of impact generated through numerous factors on a daily
basis that motivates people to work in an effective way (Boje & Smith, 2010).
I saw myself as a transformational leader helping others in getting their work done in a
better way. Being a student representative, I learned to gather views from their peers regarding
various aspects to communicate those to members of staff. This can be in the form of a positive
feedback or shared practice by gearing up the different communities in an effective way. As a
leader I was given a duty to understand the student experience and to arrange their needs. These
duties helped in gaining an effective set of skills that helped in providing desired output. The

proposed changes helped in procuring effective changes that help in determining procedural
changes (Dessler, 2009). As a leader I have to put forward the interest of the group and to
manage the activities while looking onto every individual interest. In true manner, this helped me
in developing coordination in between the teacher and the students (Dowling, 2008). This helped
me in reviewing the information in an effective way that later allowed in gaining effectiveness.
The overall purpose is to share information about any action that is decided as result of the
discussion.
The leadership skills would help in attaining an insight in order to manage the efforts of
each and every individual. The purpose was to arrange volunteer meeting in managing activities.
The overall aim is to improve the learning experience for current as well as for future students
(Hamel, 2008). Heading the volunteer group is one of the tough tasks. While nurturing my
leadership skills, I found out that it takes a lot of effort to direct people. Leading people is a
matter of great pride and responsibility. At the same time it is difficult to manage the aspiration
of each and every individual associated with the university. Leadership functions are important
for gaining better understanding of responsibilities. This will surely help me in pursuing
professional activities at a later stage (Harzing &Pinnington, 2010).
My leadership experience gave me an opportunity to define my capabilities in an
effective way. I have personally been very fortunate to develop formal set of leadership skills at
an early stage. I was appointed as a Representative of the student council. This has given me
tremendous exposure to new opportunities (Boxall & Purcell, 2011). This is how I learned to
pursue my journey as a leader. However, after becoming the student Representative I realized

that such opportunities are important enough for the student welfare. This provides me with an
opportunity to hear the councils, leadership institutes, developing summer enrichment programs
or entrepreneurship incubators. All this allowed me to gain an experience in order to develop
leadership skills. I got a chance to work closely with many students. I experienced the changes in
the team after becoming the student leader. I achieved an insight to convert the entrepreneurs
with ambitious goals for solving critical problems (Bratton & Gold, 2012). All the activities
helped me in exploring my strength and weakness.
I believe in carrying out work by values and principles. As a student representative I
professed value and principles in an effective way by directing individuals. There were certain
projects and events that I undertook that enabled me to work efficiently in odd situations. It is
initially tough to lead people in a particular direction. There was continuous opposition from
different members in the student council. It developed my strength to incorporate specific skills
in order to get work done. Leadership is more about taking people interest effectively in order to
gain goals. I believed in listening to each individual while incorporating change. Despite
massive interruption in delivering work, I somehow managed to carry forward vision and
successfully ran the activities. Since then, I have added new functions offerings improved
student enhancement. This just helps in determining commitment increasing a service that
genuinely added value in a unique way. A consistent leadership approach helped in maintaining
effectiveness in the team (Collings & Mellahi, 2009).
Despite a lack of formal information at place, leadership helps in fostering effectiveness
in a better way. This is important from the point of view of validating effectiveness at first place.

As a leader I have to work with the students in a similar direction. Every day was a challenge in
itself where I have to deal with different queries. In traditional sense, there were many students
who are still forging their own ways of making an impact. This is what leadership is all about.
I'm extremely fortunate to receive the opportunity. It inspired me to coordinate people and set an
example for others. The desire to lead and a commitment to making an impact combined
together in leading changes. Leader is a phenomenal initiative that is supporting this dream and
opening doors for our students and future person in charge.
A leader does require a support of people. This will gradually help in guaranteeing
effectiveness at work. It is evident to develop skills not in self but in other people as well. This
will help in managing variety of task. Each and every day is different in managing functions in
an appropriate way. At an initial stage it is always tough for an individual to get his/her work
done. For a leader, it is important to develop an effective parameter that allows him/her in
guaranteeing sustainable growth. People can only attain growth if they actually learn from the
program. As an individual I learned to be focused. It is necessary to look onto the interest of
other individual working with you. This helped me in guaranteeing an effective insight into the
work. I got an opportunity to interact with different people. This is important enough in
managing the quirky tasks (Has rich, 2015).
A leader has a responsibility to arrange the efforts of people around him. There were at
times when the volunteers were against my vision. It was a tough job for me to coordinate the
job of different people. It is evident for an individual to be focused enough in order to guarantee
growth and development. It is effective from the point of view of attaining everyone’s consent in

pursuing work. This was important for me to understand the process in order to deliver functions
in the most appropriate way. There is a consistent requirement to endorse student’s interest. It is
effective for guaranteeing effective goals and matching up with the people expectation. A Leader
has to act people’s representative in stating their interest. It is necessary to ensure sense of
belongingness in order to manage interest of every individual. There are been evidences in
managing the interest of people and placing them in order to gain better understanding. Thus for
a leader, it is necessary to place interest of every person before his own. This will gradually help
in managing sustainable goals and attaining better objectives. There were many incidences where
I had to be very strict on the fellow members. This is important as an individual to manage the
effectiveness in order to deal with the future contingencies. There is a necessity to manage the
opportunities in a well defined way. This is necessary for gaining effectiveness in managing
goals.
A leader has a responsibility to managing every individual in an effective way (Hendry,
2012). The purpose is to deal with the ineffectiveness in order to manage the goals in order to
attain sustainable result. This is necessary for dealing in the ineffectiveness that can lead to
failure in gaining proper outcome. There is a necessity to develop a proper plan in executing the
job. In order to manage the functions, it is important to develop an effective policy and procedure
in order to overcome the hurdles. As a leader I have to see that all the instructions are carried
sincerely. In case of mishandle of information, a leader has to face the consequences. In order to
avoid the disputes, I had to be proactive with my approach. This was necessary to guarantee
essential growth and development (Lunenburg, 2012).

As a leader I learned to frame strategies in a well and effective way. I learned to
recognize individuals by developing an effective team support measure in order to carry out

effective way. I understood my function as a leader and pursued further in an effective way by
working consistently in gaining growth in my venture (Nahavandi, 2009). Being a student
representative, it is very tough to fulfill aspiration of each and every individual. This is only
possible by working together while organizing individual efforts. As a leader I gained desired
knowledge that will help in motivating me in delivering futuristic goals. This will definitely help
me in delivering desired functions in order to pursue dreams (Neider & Schriesheim, 2014). It is
significantly evident from heresiarch that the leadership function is important enough to gain
desired roles. This is necessary for managing different role and functions and future
accomplishment (Morais et al, 2014). This role has helped me in defining consistent goal in
coordination with the appropriate activity. A consistent leadership approach helped in
maintaining effectiveness in the team. I saw myself as a transformational leader helping others
in getting their work done in a better way (Moore, 2014).

To conclude, Leadership is an important function of management helping in maximizing
efficiency and to achieve better goals. As a leader I learnt to develop better skills to carry
forward the futuristic endeavor. There is a necessity to manage the appropriate functions that will
surely help in organizing developments. I have learnt the proper way to manage the functions in
order to harness the result. It is evident from the above mentioned research that the functions are
very well incorporated in order to pursue the activities in an effective way. This is necessary to
engage in an activity that motivates leadership skills at a consistent rate.
