Journal 7: Goal Setting and Action Planning
Goal setting is considered as a process in which an individual set a particular goal that
he/she wants to attain (Camp, 2017). Respective report is based on goal setting process of a
person and development of action plan in order to attain that goal. The goal setting practices in
this report is based on improving leadership approaches of an individual for grabbing successful
career opportunities.
About leadership quality and wheel of life
In order to become a successful leader, I analysed that I have certain skills which denotes
my strengths, I also have some weakness and that I need to improve in order to become a
successful leader in future. Skills which are my strength are communication, understanding,
positive, creative and self motivated whereas problem solving, delegating, accountability and
relationship building skills are few area where I am below average. So, I need to develop
strategies through which I can polish my strengths and overcome weakness in effective manner.
Wheel of life theory include information related to the techniques in toolbox that are used for
personal development which is done over around thousand years. This theory is represent in a
circle which shows whole life of a person. Along with this, there are several stages of the wheel
of life and I need to go through all stages in order to attain my desire goal or target. At first stage
I need to focus on my business or career growth then it come to next stage i.e. related to finance.
After the attainment of finance stage I need to focus on health which can be mental or physical,
then next stage is based on the family as well as friends according to which I also need to
provide them equal time to them. Furthermore I need to switch next stage i.e. related to romance
or love life after that I need to conduct focus on my personal development activities but along
with this I also consider on next phase i.e. fun and recreation. After all this I go to last stage i.e.
related to contributing my part for the society at which I need to do CSR activities (corporate
social responsibilities).
Exploring leadership quality
By conducting evaluation I was able to know my weaknesses which is essential for me to
improve because those skills will help me in conducting my work in effective manner that
directly lead to attainment of my desired goal. Along with this, these skills will also help me in
conducting work properly by considering all the factor or elements of wheel of life. The

improvement of skills will also help me in solving problems of others, conduct delegation of
authority according to employees skills and capabilities (Fredrix and et. al., 2018). This will also
help me in getting accountable for my work which will directly enhance my responsibility.
Moreover, by polishing my strength I can assure that I can conduct particular work in most
effective manner. Along with this there are also several theories which are related to leadership
such as democratic leadership theory. This type of leadership style is also known as participative
leadership or shared leadership style. In this, leadership members of a group take high level of
participation in decision making process. This is mainly applicable to private business, school as
well as government bodies.
The ‘Personal Competence Questionnaire
In order to enhance my weak skills I need to develop action plan accordingly so that I can
enhance my skills in effective manner. In order to enhance problem solving sills I can conduct
training under professional so I can observe them that how they solve issues or problem so
easily. For improving my delegation skill, I will analyse people at workplace as it will help me in
understanding their skills, knowledge and abilities according to which I can allot work to them.
Along with this, in order to enhance my relationship building skills I will conduct training and
development sessions under professional as well as I can also attain online video classes because
through that I can know several methods in order to enhance relationship building skills.
Through this action plan I can improve my weak skills which will help me in becoming a
successful leader. The Personal Competence Theory 1992 include information related to self
awareness as well as self management. Here self awareness is consider as ability of a person to
recognise their own emotions as well as they also able to evaluate its impact on self as well as
other person.
