organizational culture. This report will analyze the term leadership which is identified as critical
to the provisions of the healthcare at all its levels. All this discussion will be done through
literature analysis emphasizing on how and why the developing of the individual leaders can
throw influence and impact upon delivery of the health care services at the individual, team and
service level using examples and personal experiences for the support. Furthermore, this report
will present a clear as well as logical overview of the impact of leadership upon the individuals,
teams and health services including the links of contemporary leadership theories as well as the
surrounding literatures.
Impact on individual level
Effective leadership in the individual has a very diverse impact in the health care services
for providing safe, high quality and compassionate care providing is their top priority. Ensuring
that the voice of each and every patient is to be consistently heard by them. They must also
attempt to all the experiences faced by the patients, their concerns, their needs whether positive
or negative. Leaders offer support, empathy, fairness and respect to all the individuals. Their core
leadership strategy is to promote participation and involvements (articles, 2018)SS. The voice of
their staff must be encouraged, heard and they must be provided with the all required practical
support and lastly innovate safer boundaries at the workplace for them. Continuous promotion
for the development of knowledge, skills and abilities of the health care for improving the quality
of care safety and experience of their patients (O'Connell, 2018). According to the
transformational theory of leadership an individual must always tend to transform itself
according to the changing needs and demands of the situation. Changes are very essential to

understand the characteristics of the other individuals and hence to become a great leader.
Whereas the servant theory helps the individual to understand the all the worst to worst situations
and help him to tackle the problems in a better way.
Impact on team level
The leaders of the team creates a strong sense of identity for their teammates by ensuring
them a clear and inspiring visions relating to the work of the team , clarity of teams membership.
It is the duty of the team leader to ensure that all the members in the team are fully involved in
taking responsible decisions, it is delegated to all the members by conducting constructive
debates on the various topics related to the provisions and improvements of highly qualified care
to the patients. They also ensure the team that they must take out some time from their work to
review their performances and find out various ways to improve them. This creates a climate of
positivity in the team, build optimism, efficiencies in the team, mutual supports and good humor
(Sørensen, 2019).
There are many constant reforms in the health care sector, whose basic aim is to provide
efficient, effective as well as the safe and highly qualified health care. It is the healthcare leaders
who would be highly required to bring about reforms and effective changes in the healthcare
systems. Leadership in healthcare system can thus be defined as that managing team which is
spread across the clinical workforces for meeting up the peculiar challenges. In health care
system leadership plays a very essential role. It is used to describe the individual’s behavior
while directing the activities of a group held towards a shared purpose. Theories of leadership are
dynamic and keeps on changing over the time (-Sawai, 2013).
There are a large number of theories which have appeared over the past few years, while
struggling with the practical application of leadership and its concepts. Since 1920 the multiple

theories of leadership were developed and some of them are as follows: first one is the
Transformational leadership theory, and second one is the servant leadership theory. Out of
which the servant leadership theory suggests that for leading a team one first needs to become a
servant as this would help him to understand and recognize the emotions and enhance passion in
all the others. These leaders can set very good examples for others and make them available with
a standardized set of ethics which could never be put into questions. The values which provides
these leaders to get themselves fit into the healthcare are the prioritize services, shared powers,
care demonstrations, other’s development, winning or building the trust in or amongst the
patients and lastly by creating a workplace which is safe for all the individuals (Ayeleke &
Dunham, 2018).
For example a servant leader will always take into consideration its entire team and
would want that all the individuals must attain success at some or the other time span. It will
always be ready to help the members of the team as well as all the other humans in general
(Balash, 2018).
Whereas the transformational leadership theory is mostly concerned with the alignments
of managing and measuring the styles and supervision of the processes. This theory basically
requires its leaders to communicate the vision in such a way that it not only can instigate
motivation but also provide empowerment to its leaders. The values which provides these leaders
to get themselves fit into the healthcare are the trust, mutual respect for each other, support of the
leaders to the individuals, communicating all the things and matters in a systematized way etc.
(Beardsmore, & McSherry, 2017)
For example there was once a transformational leader who had overseen the department
of the healthcare systems for a huge pharmaceutical distribution company. In that while he

thought that the company needed just an effective tool for its growth as much of its data was
relying on the correct place. He here is just required to make a plan that how to use the stored
data for making an essential financial decision. His vision was really interesting and can be put
into implementation and lastly can also be easily followed by his followers to take their
healthcare organization towards success or development (CATALYST, 2019).
Impact on organizational level
In healthcare profession the term effective leadership is very critical and used for
strengthening the quality and integration of healthcare. Nowadays for establishing an effective
healthcare organization along with high productivity levels and integrated quality of care can be
recognized by both evidence based medicines and nursing. Leadership in an organizational
culture can be defined as those driving forces which can lead an organization towards either
success or failure (Dewar, 2019).
It is very important for the healthcare professional today to demonstrate leadership
qualities in their behavior and styles which are also needed to be appropriate or constant and also
change according to the complexity and requirement of the healthcare delivery systems. The
theories of leadership must be very carefully followed by all the healthcare professional so to
achieve excellence for their organization as well as their self or individual performances. All
these values can only be attained only if the patients are satisfied and a good rating is attained.
The support of transformational and servant theories of leadership is required to balance the
dynamic flexibility and stability in the healthcare organizations. The healthcare professional
must have proper knowledge and acquire those skills relating to the competencies of the cultures
(Klein & Wallis, 2013).

Culture refers to those values and beliefs which are existing since a long time in an
organization. The behaviors and attitudes in a workplace will be highly influenced by the
attitudes and beliefs of their staffs. Basically leadership is adjusted by the administrators to
accomplish the goals and the missions of the organization which could furthermore influence the
employees and satisfy their job profile. Thus it is very essential to understand the existing
relationship between the cultures of the organization, leadership behavior and the amount of job
satisfaction of the employees. The organizational culture within a health care sector plays a very
large role in satisfying the health of the working environments and for promoting the
organizational ethics within the employees (Mannion & Davies, 2018).
Leadership in service sector becomes effective once they start bringing the visions and
values into the ways of the works of the organization and all these are attained by monitoring,
reapproving or rewarding to the voices of the patients. The most effective source of feedback on
the performance of the organization is the feedback given by their patients. When they listen to
the voices of the staffs they discover the best way which could support and enable the staffs to
provide a highly qualified care to their patients (Tsai, 2011). Service sectors helps to make a
strategy for implementing and nurturing a positive culture and sense of problems before they
happen to improve the functioning and promoting the service of the organization and
participation of the staff and their productivity for enabling and encouraging responsibility and
innovation in them. This also helps in developing the cooperative relationships across the
boundaries of the health care services ( THOMAS, 2014).
