faced them with courage and the result is the figure which I mentioned above. Most of the
leaders judge their results at the end of the month or at the end of the year. But it can be
measured at any point of time by looking after some particular measures like sales,
commission, listings, the number of effective sales person in the team and others. It can be
said that sales results are just the outcomes of certain activities, but the true driver behind all
the activities is the capability of an effective leader. The leadership challenges which I faced
are manly of the strategic plans taken by me. They were initially opposed by the leaders of
other departments as well as the senior level management of the organization. This were the
leadership challenges which I had to face in my five years’ career in this organization, and I
am still facing the same.
Leadership Journey
Maintaining the leadership is more difficult than becoming a leader. From very early
stages of my life, I loved to lead a team, and I got the chance when I was made the captain of
the football team of my school. In the professional front, I was very much guided by my
senior in the very first day of my job, which was an event management company in Australia.
He helped me a lot and taught me how to become an efficient leader and how to maintain the
leadership position. He taught me how to lead a team and how to overcome the barriers or the
challenges with different features of leadership styles. He is the first person who handed two
candidates under me in that organization to lead them about the various aspects of event
management. But I had to face a critical event in that position for which I had to left that
organization. Both the candidates were not ready to work under my leadership style, as I was
very friendly in nature, and the senior level management also felt that my leadership style
would not suit the mission and vision of the organization. Later, I came to know from my
senior that they thought that I was too friendly with my juniors and they thought seniors need
to be very strict and too much friendliness means the leadership style is not effective for the

rather than that they were planning to shift me to some different job role, which was a kind of
demotion to me. After that, I joined in the second organization, which was a client
management company, where I became the assistant relationship manager and was helping
the organization tom flourish and lead them with the abilities I possess. After working there
for a few years, I got an opportunity to work in this organization and I gladly accepted the
challenge, and helped the business house with the leadership style and approaches I possess
(Nanjundeswaraswamy & Swamy, 2014).

According to my point of view, a leader must possess the following qualities:
Time-Manager
First and foremost, a leader must set deadline and timelines. He must plan things well
ahead of time. There is no need of controlling everyone and everything but the things around
him must be predictable and in order. Through the process of setting up of routines and
timelines, a leader must impose the structure within everything. Plans must be followed
thoroughly once made. This quality helps in assuring the progress and productivity of a
project.
Believer
A leader must always focus on doing what is right. Though it may vary from person
to person that what is actually the right thing, but he must believe and do it. He has a set of
values imbibed within which he should not compromise with. These values show us the right
direction and provide a meaning to one’s life. Any team member will always value the
consistency of his leader if he chooses and spends time with companies or people in
alignment with those values (Rigoni & Asplund, 2017).

Commander
A leader should have the objective of taking charge and directing or guiding people in
any kind of situation. He must enjoy himself being a leader of his team. He must be afraid of
confronting while reflecting his own views and ideas. On the contrary he should understand
that the first step towards an agreement is built through confrontations and open discussions.
I think that people who have a clear vision and can take a stand always attract followers.
Therefore, he must be a good listener in order to become a good leader without the fear of
confrontations.
Analyst
Another objective of a leader, according to me, is that he should analyse things for
finding out the root causes. We all like concepts, ideas and theories but we want them to be
proven. Similarly, in order to find the cause of any problem, a leader must use proper data
and information. A data will help him to be unbiased, objective and dispassionate. He will be
a great asset for the surrounding people if he deals situations with proper data and lack any
kind of biasness in his attitude.
Self-believer
In my opinion, a leader must be self-confident and is ready to accept any difficulties
he may face in the future. Deep in his mind he should have the guts that, no matter whatever
happens, he can pass through it. This kind of self-motivation and inner confidence helps a
leader to take risks and face new challenges. He must be confident in making judgements and
decisions as well. This quality develops a feeling of certainty among the employees which is
vital for decision making procedure of any team (Schreiner, 2013).

My Leadership Style
The leadership style followed by my is partly Paternalistic and partly Laissez-faire
style. In Paternalistic style of leadership, I used to act as a parental figure by taking care of
my team, and di possess concerns for them. And in return, they completely trust on my
abilities and at the same time loyal to me. They are fully focused on the business objectives
of the organization of Ray White and are fully committed to their work. In the Laissez-faire
style of leadership, almost all the power and rights are given to the teammates of mine, to
take the decisions by their own (Yahaya & Ebrahim, 2016). They have the full freedom to
take their decisions concerning on the completion of the tasks allotted to them. I offer support
and guidance whenever it is required and just keep a track on the daily activities and progress
of the business. I actually do not take part in the decision making processes until and unless it
is required and asked by my team. They actually are totally focused and committed on the
targets allotted to them by me. Emotional intelligence is a highly prized as well as an under-
rated asset. In order to understand the feelings and emotions of my team members, it is
necessary to understand the same by me. Presence of emotional intelligence is an essential
and crucial role for a leader (Batool, 2013). According to my perception, I possess a fair
amount of emotional intelligence on myself, through which I am able to understand the
emotions and basic requirement of my group members, and is also reflects on the sales
figures at the end of every month. Self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy and
social skills are important to have inside an effective leader. The communication skills
between me and my team needs to be an effective one, which we have, along with a proper
conflict resolution procedure, which is followed in my group (Mayer, Caruso & Salovey,
2016).

Implications
According to my point of view, the leadership styles used by me also faces some
challenges in this highly competitive market place. Real estate is one of the most competitive
area of business. I have to deal with them according to my experience and advices by my
team members. I also take suggestions from the senior level management of my company, but
when the challenges are faced from their side, I had to discuss about the matter with my
group and actions are implemented according to the decision arrived from all of us. And in
order to maintain the effectiveness of the leadership style and actions, I have to judge myself
first by placing me in that particular scenario, so that the best possible outcome can be
achieved and ca be implemented on my team in order to take out the best from them and help
the organization to earn a hefty amount of revenue by the organization and help to gain the
competitive edge over others (Saeed et al, 2014).
Theory and Frameworks
From the view point of my experiences, the theory which might follow my leadership
style is the contingency theory, where the leadership abilities would be judged depending on
the happenings of the scenarios, and what would be best suited in that situation. The best
form of leadership would be to maintain a balance between the needs, behaviours and
context. This theory helps to evaluate the right qualities of the leadership, the reason for
which I got promoted to ne of the highest position in this organization and the highest point
in my professional career. The situational theory can also be linked with the leadership style
followed by me. This theory suggests that leadership depends on the occurrences of the
situations in the market places. The actions would be taken according to the leadership style
and theories as well as the situations raised in the context of property selling and providing
home loans to the old and new customers of the organization of Ray White (Giltinane, 2013).

Conclusion
From the above report, I can conclude that leadership plays an integral part in the
organization in the context of selling and marketing department of an organization globally.
One need to follow that effectively and efficiently so that the competitive advantage can be
enjoyed by the business houses, for example, Ray White in this context. The leadership
position should not be misused and misjudged, in order to gain the competitiveness against
