Introduction
This paper is containing assessment of the services which form major part of the hospitality
industry of Australia, for instance, the institutional cuisine management consisting
universities, schools, colleges, hospitals, the police force, the navy, the military, the air force,
the prison, factories as well as the aged care facilities.
In this context, particular institutes residing in Victoria, Australia have been chosen under the
three categories of Australian institutions include the prison, aged care centres and 5-star
hotels. Hence, the selections are as follows:
Aged Care Centre: Twin Parks Aged Care Centre (TPACC)
Prison: Melbourne Assessment Prison (MAP)
5-Star Hotel: The Olsen
Similarities and differences among all above institutions in terms of hospitality
services
While referring to the leadership and management styles of hospitality managers of MAP,
services like food and beverages, accommodation, and other things are being assessed here.
MAP is an operational prison situated in West Melbourne since 1989, which is being
managed under Corrections Victoria since the year 2003 having a total capacity of 305
(Nebrini, 2013). The leadership and management are governed by Corrections Victoria
(CV) being a core part of the Department of Justice within the Victorian Government. CV is
responsible for the provision of accommodation, buildings and personnel and food and
beverages facilities in the prison (Nebrini, 2013). After conducting research over these basic
hospitality facilities in MAP, results are depicting that services in terms of buildings,
personnel, products, food and accommodation are being managed at their minimum desired
level. The reason behind is that hospitality industry within the area of prison is not supposed
to provide high-class facilities but it is responsible for providing the minimum required
services level while taking care of prisoners’ health and hygiene (Williams et al., 2009).
Now, coming to the next category of the Australian institutions; The Olsen 5-star hotel is
having a number of differences from the hospitality services point of view (Service Skills

Australia, 2011). For an example, guests of diverse cultures come from all over the world
with different expectations to the Olsen, hence hotel hospitality unit fulfil their different
needs and desires in order to achieve high-quality of hospitality management (Nickson,
2013). Moreover, another major difference among 5-star hotel, prison and aged care center is
that, leadership faces diverse kinds of challenges in each institution as aged care center leader
face health related challenges to be handled, while leader working in prison handles several
criminal minds together and fulfil their basic requirements of livelihood (Bowie et al., 2016).
In addition, when we talk about a 5-star hotel then hotel manager of the Olsen majorly
manage, lead and look forward to fulfil each and every desires and needs of their national as
well as international guests in a way that business clients, local public and international
tourists visit the hotel property again and again in future (Bhavani, 2013).
Moreover, within an aged care center services offered by the management unit have been
researched with the help of TPACC, which distinguishes from the rest two institutions in
many ways like leadership styles attributes, food and beverage and accommodation structures
and many more (Al-Sawai, 2013). For an example, health care center where old aged persons
are living requires a medical specialist leader who can utilise his or her nursing leadership
styles such as situational, coaching, laissez-faire and servant one. The leadership and
management styles in TPACC differs from rest of the two Australian institutions because old
aged people needs totally different health-care management as well as treatment than the
prisoners and those of 5-star hotel guests.
Moreover, from the similarities viewpoint the similarity among the services provided by
above three types of institutions is that prison, 5-star hotel and an aged care centre offers all
basic minimum required services and facilities to a prisoner, guest and old-age person
respectively. In addition, from the leadership and management perspective all of three
institutions of Australia require a true leadership and management as challenges are huge. In
this context, for instance in MAP there is various kinds of prisoners having various nature
and moods and hence they all are getting managed by through an effective leader. On the
other hand, if we talk about a 5-star hotel then hotel manager and main supervisor plays a
critical role while managing several functions and responsibilities within the hotel building
(Veiga et al., 2017). Likewise, an aged care center like TPACC typically requires a good
leader having versatile attributes to manage different health requirements and urgencies of
various old age persons living in TPACC, Australia (Al-Sawai, 2013).

Opinion over desired focus areas of each institution selected
In my opinion, services in terms of food and beverages, accommodation, products accessible
in their buildings as well as their personnel, while referring to their leadership and
management styles comprise following important points:
I think, hospitality services in Australian prisons like MAP should be more focused
over the health, sanitation and hygiene and mental peace of the prisoners and staff so
that decorum can be maintained in the prisoner without any hassle and chaos (Nebrini,
2013).
In addition, my opinion over leadership and management within an aged care center
suggests that aged care center leader should possess all desired attributes of an
effective nursing leader so that while providing basic life-care facilities to residents,
he or she can take care of all residents from a health and well-ness viewpoint (Al-
Sawai, 2013).
Furthermore, my opinion about the services management and leadership styles used in
5-star hotel like The Olsen suggests that hotel managers of the Olsen should look
forward to attend, entertain and greet their guests in all way to fulfil their all possible
wishes in terms of services such as food and beverages, accommodation and products
etc. (Nickson, 2013).
Conclusion
In conclusion, research on leadership and management styles within three kinds of Australian
institutions, which form part of hospitality industry, has been done successfully. To do above,
the paper has utilised renowned names such as prison MAP, 5-star hotel the Olsen and aged
care center TPACC in a way that all key similarities as well as differences which exist among
such institutions and the Olsen hotel have been researched and explained in detail.
