detailed way to provide deeper understanding of the research study. At last, primary data sources
is used to collect data by using survey questionnaires.
3.3 Research philosophy
The research philosophy determines needed manner to get details of selected research
topic. It helps to gain deeper knowledge and insight of the concepts of leadership as well as
managerial style associated with the employee performance. This research method is important
as it helps to explain assumption procedures undertaken by the researcher to conduct the research
paper. Selection of suitable research philosophy is based on the nature of research study. There
are three types of research philosophy (Brannen 2017). First one is positivism which deals with
application as well as use of logical ideas to analyze hidden facts associated with the research
topic. Second one is Interpretivism is related to complex structures involved to analyze social
world as well as aspects. Interpretative research philosophy is helped to get theories related to
natural law. Finally, realism is mixed approach which is linked with traits from other two types
of research philosophy. It discusses about human interactions with social world for analyzing
aspects linked with the selected topic.
3.3.1 Justification of selecting appropriate philosophy
Based on selected research topic, selected research philosophy is positivism which
analyzes hidden facts as well as data related to the research process undertaken by the leaders
(McCuskerand Gunaydin 2015). The nature of this study is limited of time, therefore other
philosophies are discarded and limited role of the researcher to evaluate the collected data leads
to reduce data errors. The selected research philosophy is involved with usage of existing
theories for development of hypothesis to test throughout the research processes. In this study,
role of the researcher is being limited to collection of data plus interpretation in objective

method. The researcher is independent form of this study as well as there are no such provisions
of the human interest in this particular investigation.
3.4 Research approach
The research approach is used to guide the researcher such that they can conduct the
study in organized manner as well as get the research outcomes. This research method helps to
provide details on practical application of the leadership theories so that they can get access to
research content. There are two types of research approaches. First one is deductive approach
starts with a research statement as well as questions which are to be answered in the research
study (Flick 2015). This method is used to convert theory into the research question and the data
are to be collected by means of survey questions. Inductive research approach is used to create
theory.
3.4.1 Justification of selecting appropriate approach
The selected research approach is deductive approach which is related to leadership and
managerial style and theories. The researcher has conducted practical analysis of selected topic
based on the collected data. The researcher had undertaken various theories so that they can
clearly analyze the topic and provide real information on the topic (Quinlanet al. 2019). In this
case, inductive approach is not selected as it is not suited with implementation of this research
study and deductive approach is implemented to review leadership as well as managerial style to
analyze employee performance into the banking sector.
3.5 Research design
The research design guides with a research framework for understanding as well as
evaluating the selected research topic. The process can help to select accurate way to collect data

as well as analyze collected data. There are three types of research design. Firstly, exploratory
design which is required to acknowledge various types of ideas as well as thoughts required to
complete the study (Silverman 2016). Secondly, explanatory research design is used to
summarize the individual occurrence of the research events which can provide impact on
research outcomes. Finally, descriptive research design is aimed to get suitable details and
information to identify the occurrence of the research events. It can undertake decisions which
are required to carry out the research study.
3.5.1 Justification of selecting appropriate design
In this research study, selected research design is descriptive as it is consisted of different
aspects associated with the research study. It is provided with in-depth processes related to
investigate and review various leadership as well as managerial styles in the banking industry
required in a leader to perform the business operations. The selected method helps to complete
the study on time (Mackey and Gass 2015). Explanatory design is not selected as it is supported
only longitudinal study. The selected descriptive research design is used to undertake the study
in detailed manner.
3.6 Data collection procedure
The data collection procedures is conducted to deal with identifying various approaches
for collecting useful information related to selected research topic. The data collection is
performed to collect useful information related to the topic so that exact result results are
analyzed (Kumar 2019). This method is used to lessen errors and proper data is collected from
the research participants. The collected data are highly accessible for this particular thesis study.

3.6.1 Data sources used
The data sources are required to collect data based on selected topic and identify the
information is required to meet with research needs. There are two types of data sources such as
primary and secondary data sources. The primary data sources are needed to implement the
research as it is required to undertake variability as well as reliability of the research study. The
primary data are collected through survey and interview methods. Apart from this, other method
is secondary data collection which is collected from secondary sources such as peer review
journal articles, books, newspapers, blogs and others (Taylor, Bogdanand DeVault 2015). This
method is consisted detailed description of information as well as data related to the research
topic.
For this particular research study, primary data sources are used by interaction with the
employees of Dublin Banking Sector so that they can understand leadership as well as
managerial styles of leaders which are required to increase into the employee performance. This
data collection method helps to get data based on research questions. The data are to be collected
for reliability as well as validity of the research topic. The data are being used to enable better
understanding of the study with detailed research results.
3.6.2 Data analysis techniques
Usage of the qualitative data analysis technique is useful to record opinions as well as
thoughts of people in such a way that the information can provide various aspects of selected
thesis topic. This technique can benefit the topic by addition of valuable theoretical concepts
related to leadership. Quantitative data analysis technique is used to deal with application of
statistical processes in the numerical form of collected data (Walliman 2017). The retrieved
results are to be collected across the target population. This technique is used in form of the

numbers as well as analysis of the numbers which can lead to establish the conclusive results.
Using this method, cross tabulation is used which is preferable to use basic tabular forms for
drawing the interferences among various data sets into this particular study. It is contained of
data which is mutually exclusive. The data are to be collected from larger sample size.
Regression method is used to analyze gathered data by means of primary data collection. The
selected data analysis method, regression analysis is set of the statistical methods used to
estimate for relations among the variables. It is used for understanding among independent as
well as dependent variables and explore of its relationships.
3.7 Population and Sample
The population is a term which is used as well defined individuals those are involved in
the research study. The population is to be taken as the sample size. The research work is
involved with primary data collection as it is required a target population. The target population
is required to conduct primary data collection. The sample is termed as the group of people those
are taken from larger target population in order to measure. The sample is to be representative of
population to ensure that there is generalization of the research findings to the research
population.
3.7.1 Sampling technique
The sampling technique is selected to be applied on the survey questionnaires which are
used to evaluate the topic based on a rating scale. In this research study, random sampling
method is used where the participants are selected for this study based on no such particular
criteria (Mackey and Gass 2015 2015). The participants are selected on random basis. Into the
sampling technique, each of population members is consisted of equal chance to be selected as
the research subject. The sampling is consisted of single steps with the selected subject of

members of the target population. It is referred to various selection methods in which the
members of sample are being selected by chance, but it is known to probability of the population
selection. It is considered as critical element to entire survey research designs.
3.7.2 Sample size
The population is total number of people those are involved into the research study. The
employees of Dublin Banking Sector are considered to be the target population for this study.
The researcher is not the participants where smaller representation of the research population is
considered as sample (Flick 2015). With help of the questionnaire, the employees are selected as
participants and the sample size selected for this particular thesis study is 50.
3.8 Ethical considerations
This research study is followed code of conduct so that they can maintain a strict research
ethics to perform work in this study. The respondents those are involved into the study are not
given any pressure and they are not forced to provide their responses for survey questions. The
data collected based on the survey questionnaires are not used for any other purposes except
academic purpose only. There are no form of commercial applications are being performed. The
primary data collection is being performed to maintain anonymity of the research participants.
The information those are collected by primary data collection method are not disclosed to others
and there are no access of any third party to get the collected data.
