INTRODUCTION
Management and leadership is the main activity organisation which is used to run a business and
increase organisational productivity. Whenever challenges are faced by companies then leaders
and managers are those people who understand the requirement of employees and provide them
best solutions which help to increase organisational productivity and profitability (Hassi, 2019) .
Manager and leaders are playing different functions and roles in order to solve the problems and
get a optimum solution so profitability can be increase effectively. This report is bases on
Generic Electric which is American multinational company operating business in aircraft
engines, electrical distribution, energy, finance, health care and lighting which helps to increase
organisational productivity. To report covers differ topics such as challenges which are faced by
company and theories that helps tp overcome from problems.
MAIN BODY
1. Various managerial skills and leadership qualities
Leadership and management is considered to be a process and a management mechanism
that is used to operate a business by achieving the highest degree of performance and quality.
The aim of operation and management is to turn raw materials and labour into products and
services in order to increase productivity by growing business operations. In case of Generic
Electric, leaders and managers are playing different role which helps to attain the business goals
and objectives by completing task effectively.
Manager - An individual who has the capacity and authority to effectively manage functions and
activities is considered to be a manager. Managers have a key function and obligations that help
improve organizational efficiency and profitability. The manager of Nestle is responsible for the
organizational output in which solid strategies are required in order to achieve the objectives
effectively (Burton, Kane and Borland, 2019).
Leader – A person who understands the problems of employees who are working at workplace
and providing best solution helps to run a business effectively. Different types of activities and
role are played by leaders in case of Generic electric where it identify the problems and get them
best solutions. For instance, a new technology has introduced by managers where employees are
facing challenges to accept this in such situation leader’s role is to provide training and
development programme to staff so they can face challenges easily.

The functions of manager are as defined
Planning – This is the main function of managers which is formulated by managers in order to
run their business and increase profitability. Herein, goals are decided by manager and strategies
are formulated to attain them. For instance, a new energy is going to develop by Generic Elecric
wherein manager make plans to implement this ideas and increase the organisational
productivity.
Organising – This means activities and functions in relation to organisation should be organised
that can help to attain the decided goals and objectives. in case of Generic electric, managers are
organising all activities which helps to perform well and increase the organisational profitability.
Directing – This is next phase of organisation in which manager direct or allocate the roles and
responsibilities of their employees which helps to reach near by goals and objectives. This is
important for managers to understand what employees wants and how they can be satisfied so
decided goals can be accomplished in effective time period.
Controlling – This is the ending activity which is done by manager in order to control all
activities and functions that helps to increase the productivity by accepting all challenges. In case
of Generic Electric Managers are controlling activities the employees as they make understand to
them what need to do and how. In this case managers have a control on all functions. Therefore
organisational productivity and profitability.
The role of leaders in case of Generic Electric is as defined:
Strategic – Leaders are playing a role of strategist in which it develop a plan for a
company and work accordingly. In Generic Elecric organisation leaders are formulating
strategies which helps to complete the organisational goals and objectives effectively. In this,
leaders use their innovating and risk taking skills which suggest what need to do and how so
performance can be improved effectively.
Communicator – This is important for organisation that people should be communicate with
each other so solution of problems can be get out that helps to increase the organisational
effectiveness. In case of Generic Electric, leaders are playing a role of communicator in which it
communicates with all employees on regular basis which helps to bring improvement in
organisational functions and activities (Taborga, 2019).

Adaptor – Effective management is not possible without hiccups and bumps that helps to
accept the challenges in their organisation and bring innovation to get competitive advantages
effectively. The leaders of Generic Electric are playing a role of adaptor which stops them to
waste their time and accept the challenges so goal can attain in certain period of time.
From the case study it has defined that Generic Electric is having good history due to
which managers and leaders get ready to accept the structural changes as they are started to
follow hierarchy structure after changing existing one. This structural change helps organisation
to increase their productivity by increasing number of customers and providing them products
and services accordingly. Moreover, leaders are ready to accept the challenges which helps to
take the competitive advantages (Currie and Spyridonidis 2019).
Situation – In Generic Electric, managers are trying to introduce new technology for the purpose
of improving distributing channel which can helps to increase the organisational effectively. This
organisation is facing problems to accept this changes because there is lack of technical and
management skills due to which employees are not able to accept the challenges or changes in
their organisation. It impacting negatively as productivity and profitability is reducing. To
overcome from such situation managers and leaders are running different functions and roles.
Such as managers make plans to bring changes with the help of employees and allocate their
roles and responsibilities that helps to increase their working capacity. Moreover, managers are
providing training and development programme to employees that increases their skills and
learning in order to solve the situation and attain the business goals. On the other side, leaders
role is to communicate and motivate with employees which helps to improve the organisational
productivity and profitability. In addition, leaders are understanding problems and changes in
their workings which helps to increase company’s effectiveness. Therefore, skills and qualities of
employees can be increases by good learning and skills that enhance productiveness (Mkhomi and
et. Al.,., 2020).

Leaders are important part of union in which number of employees are working
collectively and helps to attain the business goals and objectives. Different types of situations

performance which helps to increase organisational productivity. Different types of theories
and approaches are used by managers in their organisation to cope up with low productivity
and new technology which are as defined:
Contingency leadership approach - This type of leadership is considered as two-fold style of
theory that not only focuses on skills and leadership styles, but also requires an examination of
the prevalent situation. Contingency Leadership Style is made a leader for the effective
acceptance and execution of change, as it promotes effective evaluation of the market climate
and the existing situation in order to have a positive effect on transition. Underlies the leadership
style of the company's managers and leaders, first evaluate the current conditions and then make
preparations to direct and inspire employees (Vuori, 2019).
Advantages - This approach encourages the preparing of the leadership charts and offers
a clearer way for the leaders of Generic Electric to compare current leadership skills and styles
with the prevalent insinuation, thereby facilitating better training for coping with and reacting to
the conditions of the present situation.
Disadvantages - This approach encourages the creation of leadership maps and offers a

Generic Elecric are using system leadership theory which increases organisation’s adaptabilityin
relation to environmental changes. Herein, manager make decision by keeping in mind factors
which related to macro and micro (Luo, Guchait Lee and Madera, 2019).
Disadvantages – This is not practical approach at all time that lead to displays in
decision making. This cannot give appropriate results at all time because it involve macro and
micro factors.
CONCLUSION
From the above report it can be concluded that management and leaders are different person who
are playing different roles in organisation and increasing the organisational productivity and
profitability. The function of managers involves planning organising, directing and controlling
which helps to decision goals and work accordingly so goals and objectives can attain in certain
period of time. The leaders role involves strategist, communicator, innovator, risk adaptor and
others which helps to accept the challenges and run their business effectively. Herein, leaders
motivate employees by using monetary and non monetary terms which helps to improve
organisational profitability.
