Drivers of Globalisation and their impact on businesses
Globalisation is a process in which an organisation expands its business operations from
a nation to another nation with an aim of enhancing sales and profitability as well as customer
base so that long time sustainability and growth can be acquired in global market. Several factors
and drivers are situated in globalisation process which impacts the whole expansion process of
organisation in negative manner. Some of these drivers are given as below:ï‚· Technological advancements: These factors are very important for the globalisation
process and related with advancement of technology which makes easier for the
individuals products and ideas to travel beyond the boundaries for fulfilling needs of
market. For example- advancement in transportation system made possible for people to
travel from one place to another in shorter period of time (Korschun, Bhattacharya and
Swain, 2014). Apart from that, advancement in communication have increased
interrelation between individuals of different geographic locations because advance
communication channels not only decreases distance between individuals but also
supports them in sharing their ideas and informations. Advancement of technologies have
also supports the organisations in terms of enhanced productivity and profitability.ï‚· International trade: It can also considered as an important driver of globalisation process
because it not only encourages the local players to expand their operations but also helps
the nation in increase its trade business. In current scenario, any country can't become
self-independent in terms of natural resources and funds due to which they have to import
products from outside of nations for meeting with expectations and requirements of their
citizens. Most of the nations across the world imports products and services from other
nations so as to maintain living standard of their people. Due to this, several local
organisations expanding their business operations in each year with an aim of enhancing
profitability of their operations. For example- elimination of trade barriers and support of
national governments are also encouraging the organisations in creating their global
presence in market (Saeidi and et. al., 2015).
ï‚· International investment: This factor also drives globalisation process by enhancing
economic integration. In previous years, international investments are highly increasing

in terms of commercial loans, FDI, Foreign portfolio investments etc. Several
governments of nations also attracting the foreign organisations to make expansion in
their country so that economic growth of nation can be done in effective manner. This is
very beneficial because when a foreign organisation make expansion in other nation then
it provides several opportunities such as job employment, productive enterprises, new
source of income etc. that supports the individuals in raising their living standard.
These factors of globalisation can prove beneficial for Dwell because now it is operating
its function at small level and fulfilling attractive furniture products to their customers. But in
future, company can expand its operations for increasing customer base and profitability.
Impact of these factors on business
From the above discussed factors of globalisation, it has been clearly identified that
globalisation not only supports the citizens of nation in improving their living standard but also
helps the nation in terms of removing unemployment, increasing source of income etc. All these
factors supports the local economy in which business expands their operations. For e.g.
elimination from trade barriers and reduction in foreign investments attracts the foreign firms in
expanding their business in local nation (Steele and Beasor, 2017). Apart from that, Foreign
direct investments(FDI) and foreign portfolio investments etc. are also beneficial because they
not only attracts the foreign organisations for establishing their operations but also foreign
government also provide financial support in terms of FDI and FPI to these organisations. These
factors can provide impact in both manner such as positive or negative because if trade barrier
and foreign investment restrictions will be increased then small companies like Dwell can face
loss in new nation which will not beneficial for their sales and profitability (Wallace and
Sheldon, 2015).
