Example
Working as a supervisor nurse in the health care department, I had a staff of 20 employees. The
employees had various types of work ethics depending upon their strengths and weakness. Hence,
the employees were looking for different directions and support in their work. This job experience
brought an unintentional situational leadership approach in me, where I did not recognize that the
employees certainly looked for the specific tasks requests to which they were delegated correctly.
Some employees needed more time and support while others were confident and motivated. One of
the employees intended to make use of the coaching style, where she needed support for reaching
the goals. She was incompetent and was not committed to her task. In healthcare, it is important to
focus on the client needs and immediately reacted to it according to her learning and experience.
But after the completion of the "new employee" phase, she did not have enough skills to grasp or
complete the tasks, this happened due to her discomfort or maybe she was not committed to her
work. Considering the need of hour, it became necessary for me to replace her with a person who
was more committed and could proceed with work on time.
In the above scenario, I analysed, the level of management in the organization plays a vital role.
With the managerial experience, I also realized that flexibility with the new employees and
promotions would help me with improving the development in the healthcare. Hence, it is important
to focus on the management, where the actions speak louder than the words.
