INTRODUCTION
Management can be defined as an art of getting things done from others. It is very
important for all the organisations to have good management so that their entire activities will be
conducted in an effective manner. The management is being designed by the senior members of
the companies itself and the employees are also selected by them only (Schermerhorn and et.al.,
2014). It is very important that the managers should make good plans and policies for the
company so that the productivity and profitability of the company gets enhanced. The company
used in this report is Hilton Hotel. There are various types of management styles and leadership
characteristics that will be referred in this report. Along with this, SWOT and personal
development plan will also be created.
TASK 1
1.1 Comparison of different management styles
Management can be stated as authority of the company who manages the business
concern whether it is business, NPO or the Govt. body (Management Styles,2018). There are the
activities which are being involved for making the efforts to make the employees much more
effective (Belbin, 2010).
There are various management styles within the company which are being described below:
Autocratic Management Style
Similarities: This kind of style is being performed
by the managers at high level.

They do not involve others in decision
making process.
Democratic Management Style

This kind of style is being utilised by

There are various kinds of leadership features which are being stated as follows: Communication Skills: This kind of skill is highly needed for being a better leader as it
is highly essential to have better channel of communication by which sharing of data can
be done along with sharing talks with each other (Vestbo and et.al., 2013). Flexibility: There are the situations when there is high level of confusion between things
or there is the change in objectives. Therefore, here, a leader needs to be flexible in
nature so that various kinds of adverse situations can be handled in effective and better
manner.
Achieving Results: There are various aims and objectives which needs to be defined by
the company thus, needs to be attained within allocated period of time. So, it is the role of
leader to make the team attain objectives of firm in better and effective manner.
1.3 Communication process of Hilton Hotel
Communication can be defined as a process where two individuals mutually share their
ideas, values and thoughts with each other or with more than one people. It is a very essential
process and is required to be used by each and every person to communicate with one another
(Catapano and et.al., 2011).

company (McAfee and et.al., 2012). In Hilton, the culture was developed by their owner Conrad
Hilton. It is having guidance with the principles which includes investing in team members,
protection from environment, serving the community etc.
The management of change in the hotel can be described through following points:
Demographic – It is a global hospitality chain which is owned by Blackstone Group, the
brand has 3897 hotels in 91 countries. It is being considered as one of the most successful
hotel chain.
Economic – The culture followed in Hilton is very effective and they are doing their
operations by keeping their environment in mind.
Legislative factors – Hilton Group makes sure that they do not conduct any such activity
because of which they can come into trouble. So, their management follow all the rules
and regulations.

3.1 Motivating and leading a team to achieve their goals
The tips for motivating and encouraging the team to achieve their goals are as follows:-
Become Friendly – It is very necessary to treat the team members like friends because
then only, they will feel comfortable (Jauch and et.al., 2013).
Recognising work – It is very important to ensure that is exceptionally good is
recognised because it will bring a sense of motivation in the employees.
Stay focussed – It is very important for the leader to check the strengths and weaknesses
of the team members so that the weaknesses can be removed by applying various types of
techniques (Malfertheiner and et.al., 2012).
Supporting the team – It is the responsibility of the leaders to support their team in all
the situations so that they can do their work in an effective manner.
3.2 Justification of managerial decisions
It is being considered that if the managers and leaders will follow the above mentioned
tips of managing the team members without increasing their payment, then they will be able to
make the employees more efficient and achieve the goals and objectives of the company on time
as well.
It has also been recommended that the managers should make sure that all the activities
are being properly followed by the employees because then only, they will be able to perform in
a better manner (Döhner and et. al., 2010). Various types of leadership theories can be applied by
them like trait theory, behavioural theory etc. through which they will be able to manage the
company in more effective manner.

The managerial skills will be very effective in understanding the employees. Like
through motivation, I will be able to encourage the employees to do their work in more

with the employees properly and know their issues as well (European Association For

If my personal skills will be developed then it will benefit my career very much as I will
