INTRODUCTION
Leadership management styles are the manner in which a leader or a manager works in
an organisation to ensure that the organisational goals are achieved. It is the approach by which a
leader plans and organise thier work and especialy how they deal and communicate with their
collegues. Waitrose Limited is a brand of supermarkets based in The Great Britain, which was
founded in 1904.
Types Of Leadership Management
There are various kinds of leadership styles , some of them we may think are better than
the others but each style has its own specification and a leader can adopt any to tackle certain
situation. Some leadership styles are as follows :-
Autocratic Style
Autocratic styles is the most dominant styles of leadership, An autocratic leader thinks
that he/she is the most the cleverest person in the organization. They take all the decisions in the
organization. This type of dominant nature was well-used in the past, but it does have much
emphasis nowadays. While practising this style of leadership, a leader may come out as rude and
dominant in nature but this style has its own advantages. In a situation of emergency where a
decision must be taken instantly an autocratic leader can be useful (Ebrahimi and et.al., 2017).
Authoritative Style
Authoritative leaders set a style of confidence in them which creates expectations
amongst the followers, while getting them engaged and excited about the achievement.
This type of leaders takes the whole team together and wants to achieve the targets and to know
what happens after the completion of the targets. They take their time to analyse the behaviours
of the followers and provides them with choices and not just orders.
Pacesetting Style
This style well describes the nature of the leader who always creates a rush among the
team members. They set the bar high and push their team members to rush through to achieve the
goals. Pacesetting style of leadership may be effective and get great results , its also can be very
stressful for the employees even for the most driven and hard-working employees can get
stressed out (Anderson and Sun, 2017).
Democratic Style

Democratic leaders share and take reviews of the employees about any topic which
affects the work responsibilities. This type of leaders allow their employees to express their
opinion on final decisions. This type of leadership style generates trustworthy employees and
promote team spirit and involvement of the employees. It has a room for creativity , growth and
development.
Coaching Style
In this type of leadership the leader acts as a coach to the employees , a leader who
coaches sees his employees as a reservoir of talent and coaches them to increase their potential.
Leaders who coach are generally open-hearted and they believe that there is always something to
learn from everyone (Felix, Aparicio and Urbano, 2019).
Affiliate Style
An Affiliate leaders are the most emotionally well-connected leaders amongst all the
leaders. A leader who practices this style pays strong attention to the emotional needs of the team
members. This style encourages harmony and collaborative relationships within the team. It is
mostly useful in the time of conflict and distress.
Laissez-Faire Style
This is the complete opposite of the autocratic style, a leader who follows this style of
leadership does not have any involvement with the employees. It has no control over the
employees, there is a code of trust that allows employees to do what they want to do how they
want to do. This type of Style is affective when the employees are highly skilled, who are self-
motivated. Total lack of direction , may drift people from there respective tasks and hence away
from the organizational goals (Li, Castaño and Li, 2018).
Difference in the roles of manager and leader
The difference between the roles of the managers and the leaders are quite significant.
The managers of a company usually come up with good ideas for the company whereas the
leaders are those individuals which implements these ideas in the organization. Manager are
known to react to the changes which occur in an organization but leader are the one which bring
the change into a company. Manager are known to collect the credit of success for becoming a
hero in the organization, Leaders on the other hand believe sharing the credit with their teams
and developing hero from the team members. Managers show their power over the people by

assigning them role and responsibilities but leaders develop their power with the help of the
people but accomplishing goals.
Leadership style of Waitrose
In Waitrose the management follows a collaborative approach to management and
leadership. This means in this company all the individuals contribute together for facing the
challenges in the company (Pearce, 2017). This collaboration in the company is done by
collecting suggestions from everyone in order to develop business of the company. This
approach of the company shows that this company uses the democratic style of leadership. In this
style the individuals of the company are allowed to do what ever want to if they feel in is correct.
This happens because these individuals are considered experts in their respective fields. This
style is preferred by this company because this company is consultative in its activities meaning
that before taking any major decision this company believes in consulting with all the employees
(Uleanya and et.al., 2019). Consultative nature of this company influences the individuals to give
their opinions over any activity in the company. Only issue with this style is that it may result in
conflicts as this style develops ego's in the organization.
CONCLUSION
With the help of this project it can be concluded that this company is utilizes the
democratic style of leadership for management. This project helps in understanding the
difference in the roles of leadership and management. In this project the different style of
leadership are also explained.
