PERSONAL REFLECTION
With completion of the assessment 1 of guide to leadership and management a group
presentation was prepared and presented by a group of 4 students of our class over the learning
we had with completion of assessment 1. I have different aspects of leadership and management
through the module assessment and while working for the presentation I gained an insight
knowledge over working as a team and how effectively a team can be lead. I have learned that
to work as a team mutual understanding and effective communication are two of the know
element for making the team task successful at both procuring and completion stage. While
preparation of if the presentation we all had to work together to prepare the presentation. In this
regard all the team members were assigned with different reprehensibility of handling the team
as well as preparing the presentation. The was given the responsibility to lead the team and
preparing the introductory part of the presentation. Working as team leader I have developed
leadership skills and also gained the knowledge over handling the team where all minds and not
alike and al of them present different ideas over the same point which sometimes lead to
conflicting situation(DuBrin, 2015).
The leadership skills which I gained from handling and managing the team were; being
patient, understanding the perception of others in the team, taking the viewpoints of all team
members into consideration and discussing the same with everyone for taking a decision which
reflects the proficiency of the team. I also learned the insights of management of a project.
The phases of leading and managing the team could be understand with the help of Gibbs
model of reflection. The model consist of six stages such as :
Description :
As per the model of Gibbs, I participated in the activity of group presentation with my
four classmates in which we had to give a presentation on leadership and management. The
responsibility of preparing the presentation was efficiently divided amongst the team members
where I was given the responsibility of leading the team and presenting the introductory part of
the group presentation. Whereas, 2 of my team members were provided with the responsibility of
creating and formatting the content of the presentation while one was presented the remaining
part of the presentation.
Feelings : This phase of Gibbs model states the thoughts and feelings which generates during the
project. After I was given with the responsibility of leading the team, I focussed on creating a

friendly environment where we can all discuss our views and takes on the different things
relating to the creation of the group presentation. Communicating with others freely forms the
base of an efficient and effective team work. I observed that there was a good coordination
amongst all the members of the team. However, sometimes I felt that other team members
became assertive and were trying to force their opinions and views which created a chaos at the
moment. This was because of the unorganized tasks being allotted to the other members by me.
Later I assigned specific activities to all the individuals and suggested them to perform it as per
their knowledge. By this thing all the members were able to complete their tasks on time without
any confusion and problems(Chen and Rybak, 2017).
Evaluation-
This step of Gibbs model explains the overall experience from the activity or task
performed. As I was leading my team I had to manage all the activities and make sure that all the
work is performed on time. This was my prior objective at the start of the task and it was totally
achieved which is the first thing I appreciate for my work and my team efforts. This was because
the tasks were distributed to every single person as per their knowledge so that everyone else can
contribute to the same. One thing that created problem was the different mindsets of the team
member which turned into arguments over a particular topic. Everyone in the team wanted to
place their views prior to others. This was because initially only the discussions took place and
work was not allotted which created this problem. Later all the actives were divide by me and
assigned to the members. However it was a good experience in managing this work as I was able
to lead everyone effectively and also everyone reminds me the same thing that the work was well
organised and lead perfectly which resulted to its timely completion(Northouse, 2018).
Analysis
This step from Gibbs model includes the total overview and learnings from the task being
performed. The main learning I acquired from this group presentation is applying the leadership
and management skills in practical life scenario. The negative aspect is that I was unable to
handle the dominance of the group members however it was resolved later(Martin, 2016).
Conclusion
In future I would prepare a blueprint of all the activities to be conducted and later divide
it among the members rather than discussing them before. The negative aspect was the
arrangement of the things and the tasks to the people and positive thing was the time

management. However I am confident now that I was able to find timely solutions for the
negative aspects occurred during this task.
Action plan
In future I would avoid the mistakes made in this presentation as these were the common
mistakes and could be avoided by me. However, it is a positive sign that I understood my
loopholes and able to identify them as well as sooner or later be able to apply the solution. I
would like to evaluate things first and then divide them accordingly to the people if given an
leadership opportunity in the future, as this is the only basic things that can lead to successful
completion of any activity within time(Pardey, 2016).
